Chapter 40: How Many Troubles Has This Caused?
"He beat Jerry so badly at the restaurant that Jerry couldn't even stand up."
Sarah, who was at home discussing wedding preparations with Jade, turned pale when she heard the news.
She had gone through so much trouble to steal Ethan away from Victoria.
Back then, she always mocked Victoria for being a worthless simp and never considered her a rival at all.
But after everything that had happened these past few days, she felt that Ethan still had feelings for Victoria.
Especially the fact that Ethan stood up for Victoria made her feel seriously threatened.
Seeing Sarah's expression change, Jade asked with concern, "Sarah, what's wrong?"
"Mom, my friend called and said Ethan stood up for Victoria. Do you think he still loves Victoria?"
Sarah looked worried.
The Ashford family had a good background. For a small family like the Hughes family to marry into the Ashford family would really boost their status.
Sarah had schemed so hard to develop her relationship with Ethan. She wasn't going to let that damn bitch Victoria become Ethan's dream girl.
Sarah's words made Jade's expression turn serious for a moment.
However, she quickly reassured Sarah, "Sarah, don't be scared. Even if Ethan stood up for Victoria, that doesn't mean anything."
"Don't worry, I'll do whatever it takes to make you Ethan's wife. As for Victoria, I have plenty of ways to deal with her."
Jade’s expression turned cold. After comforting Sarah, she turned and went to the study to find Charles.
Victoria was indeed hard to deal with, but fortunately she had Charles on her side. No matter how difficult Victoria was, she couldn't go against Charles, could she?
Sure enough, after some persuasion, Charles angrily called Victoria.
"Victoria, I need to see you. Come home right now."
Facing Charles's demand, Victoria refused without hesitation.
"Dad, your home doesn't exactly welcome me back. Whatever it is, just tell me over the phone."
Victoria’s refusal nearly pushed Charles over the edge with rage.
"Fine, since you won't come back, let me tell you now - I'm not giving you the Maplewood Hotel shares I have anymore."
"You figure it out yourself."
Charles knew what Victoria cared about. By holding onto the Maplewood Hotel shares, he wasn't afraid Victoria wouldn't listen to him.
After Charles hung up, Victoria gave a small, helpless smile.
William, who was sitting not far from her reading a book, brought her a glass of water and asked curiously, "What's wrong?"
Victoria naturally took it and said honestly, "My father wants me to come home right now."
Hearing that Charles was asking Victoria to come home again, William felt uneasy.
Last time Victoria went back to The Hughes Villa, she almost died in that small attic.
A few days ago, Charles called her again, planning to send her to Jerry's bed.
Now he was calling again today—so it probably wasn’t going to be good news.
William couldn't help but think more about it.
Victoria drank some water, put down the glass, and said to William, "I need to go back."
William thought for a moment and said, "Okay, go and come back quickly. If anything happens, just call me."
Although he and Victoria hadn't known each other long, Victoria could always easily feel that kind of care from him.
She looked at William very sincerely and thanked him, "Okay, thank you."
The two smiled at each other, and Victoria drove to The Hughes Villa.
As soon as she left, William took out his phone and started calling Wayne.
"Dad, didn't you say you wanted to meet your daughter-in-law?"
"Here's your chance today. Take what you prepared before and come with me to The Hughes Villa."
Without caring whether Wayne was ready or not, William directly made his request. He knew Wayne would definitely listen to him.
After all, Wayne's desire for a daughter-in-law was known to everyone.
When Victoria returned to The Hughes Villa and entered the living room, she saw Charles, Jade, and Sarah sitting there.
All three of them looked at Victoria with complicated expressions. Victoria walked straight toward them.
Based on their blood relationship, Victoria addressed Charles, "Dad."
As soon as that word "Dad" left her mouth, Charles stood up and without a word, slapped Victoria across the face.
"How much trouble are you going to cause?"
“Are you trying to bring the entire Hughes family down with you?”
Charles started scolding Victoria without explanation. Standing nearby, Jade and Sarah crossed their arms, watching Victoria get hit with mocking expressions, as if enjoying a show.
Victoria clutched her stinging cheek, staring at Charles with burning anger.
She wasn't afraid or intimidated. From the moment she stepped through The Hughes Villa's door, she knew Charles would come at her.
"I'm causing trouble? Dad, the older you get, the better you are at pinning blame on me, huh?"
"Let me ask you - what exactly have I done now?"
Victoria suppressed her anger and argued with Charles.
Charles listed everything one by one.
"What have you done? Let me ask you - Eddy getting his leg broken and sent to the hospital, was that your doing?"
"Insisting on firing Connor and defying Maplewood Hotel's general manager Billy - did you do those things?"
"And last night, deliberately sabotaging Billy's contract signing with Mr. Patterson - were you involved?"
"Today you went even further, getting Ethan to stand up for you and beat up Jerry. Don't forget, Ethan is going to marry Sarah."
"Also, you said your blind date with Jerry was successful and made me transfer Maplewood Hotel to your name. I did it, but what about you? What have you done?"
"Victoria, how did I end up with a daughter like you?"
Charles was so angry he was about to have a heart attack. He gritted his teeth and threw those words at Victoria.
Victoria let out a cold, mocking laugh.
She had known since childhood that Charles stopped loving her after he married Jade.
But she never imagined she would be so unloved that everything wrong was always her fault.
"Yes, a daughter like me is really terrible, not worth mentioning."
"But you already had me. You can't exactly strangle me to death, can you? Without me, without my mom, could you have the Hughes family's current wealth?"
