Chapter 259
Chapter 259
Alia POV
Julia reached out to cover my mouth: "It's a secret, only tell Daddy."
I grabbed Julia's little hand and kissed it, pretending to be sad: "Mommy is so hurt. Julia has secrets to tell Daddy but won't tell Mommy."
Seeing that I looked like I was about to cry, Julia became anxious and quickly cupped my face: "Mommy, don't cry."
"But Julia won't tell Mommy any secrets." I pretended to rub my eyes, as if crying very sadly.
"Waaah—" Seeing me cry so sadly, Julia felt terrible. She couldn't hold back and burst into tears with worry.
"Julia..." Now it was my turn to panic. I quickly held the little one in my arms, gently patting her back to comfort her: "Baby, Mommy was just playing with you. Mommy wasn't really crying."
"Mommy is naughty!" Julia rubbed her eyes, crystal tears still hanging on her long eyelashes.
How could Mommy lie to her? She was so scared.
"Yes, Mommy was naughty. Now Julia, lie down. Mommy will call Daddy to ask when he's coming home. Our Julia has a secret to tell him."
"Okay." Julia nodded vigorously.
I lay down beside Julia and picked up my phone to call Marco. It rang for a long time but no one answered.
I thought Marco might still be busy and didn't hear his phone ring.
I put away my phone and smiled apologetically at Julia: "Daddy is still busy with work. Julia, you sleep first, and tomorrow morning you can tell Daddy your secret, okay?"
Julia nodded obediently: "Julia will sleep. Good night, Mommy. Good night, Daddy."
After coaxing Julia to sleep, I waited for a long time. It was already past midnight, but Marco still hadn't come home, nor had he called me back.
Marco had never been like this before. If he was going to be an hour or two late coming home, he would definitely call ahead to let me know.
What was happening today?
Could something have happened to him?
Thinking that something might have happened to Marco, I could no longer stay calm. I picked up my phone again and dialed his number.
This time, after a few rings, someone finally answered. Before Marco could speak, I said urgently: "Marco, where are you?"
"Madam, this is Giulio." Giulio's calm voice came through the phone.
I was slightly stunned and immediately switched to a more polite tone: "Hello, where's Marco? Why are you answering his phone?"
Giulio said: "At tonight's dinner, Mr. Vittorio had a few too many drinks and got drunk. We've arranged for him to stay at a hotel."
"Is he really okay?" I felt vaguely uneasy, but thought Marco should be fine.
He had so many people with him, nothing should happen.
Giulio said: "Mr. Vittorio just drank too much. He'll be fine, Madam, please don't worry."
"Then please have someone prepare some sobering tea for him..." I was still somewhat worried. After a pause, I added: "Giulio, could you tell me which hotel? I'd like to go take care of him."
It wasn't that I didn't trust Marco, but I had never seen him drink before.
Someone who never drinks alcohol suddenly getting so drunk that he can't come home must be feeling terrible. How could he not have someone to take care of him at a time like this?
"Madam, Mr. Vittorio is fine. You should rest early." After saying this, Giulio hung up.
Listening to the busy tone, I bit my lip. The uneasiness in my heart grew stronger, and I was so worried that something had happened to Marco.
I thought for a moment and dialed Nicola's phone. His information network was better than mine. If something really had happened to Marco, he should know about it.
But when I called, Nicola's phone was turned off.
It was almost 1 AM now, many people were asleep. It wasn't strange for Nicola to have his phone off.
Maybe it was because too many things had happened recently that I was being paranoid. Maybe Marco really was just drunk, and I was overthinking.
I kept comforting myself, but still couldn't feel at ease. I silently prayed in my heart, hoping that Marco was just drunk.
I held Julia in my arms again, letting little Julia give me some strength. I just needed to hold on for a few more hours, then I could call again, and Marco would be the one to answer.
At the same time, it wasn't just me who was worried. Giulio, who was guarding Marco, was even more restless.
He had followed Marco for many years, and this was the first time something like this had happened. For a moment, he panicked too.
However, having been by Marco's side for so long, after a brief moment of panic, he quickly calmed down and arranged everything very methodically.
The news that Marco had suddenly collapsed and fallen unconscious absolutely could not get out. If it did, Andrea might make some moves, and several major projects that Black Eagle was negotiating would probably be affected too.
But Marco's every move was constantly watched. Hiding it for a day or two wouldn't be difficult.
But if the doctors still couldn't find a way to wake him up, continuing to hide it would be much harder.
"Giulio, how is Mr. Vittorio?" Luca's voice interrupted Giulio's deep thoughts.
Giulio looked up and said: "Where were you today? When Mr. Vittorio had his accident, I couldn't find you anywhere."
Feeling uncomfortable under Giulio's stare, Luca looked away: "I had some personal matters today."
Giulio said: "Mr. Vittorio suddenly fell unconscious, and we haven't found the cause yet. Keep a close eye on Black Eagle's side. Absolutely no word of this can leak out."
Luca said: "Isn't Mr. Andrea conveniently in Portano? If Mr. Vittorio is down and things really don't work out, we could have Andrea come out to temporarily stabilize the situation."
Giulio said: "Don't tell me you don't know about the conflict between Andrea and Mr. Vittorio?"
Luca said: "Their conflict is personal. Black Eagle belongs to the Vittorio family. No matter how angry Andrea gets, he couldn't possibly joke around with Black Eagle. Besides, they're family with blood thicker than water. When they fight, they might say things in anger, but afterward, aren't they still family?"
"We can't tell Andrea." Giulio waved his hand to stop Luca, then continued: "I've already called in some experts from abroad. Once they arrive, Mr. Vittorio should be fine soon."
Their master had been at odds with Andrea recently to protect Alia, and Giulio had been involved throughout. He knew the situation very clearly.
Luca didn't know as much as he did, but she knew quite a bit.
Today, Mr. Vittorio had just collapsed, and at this moment she was suggesting letting Andrea come out to take charge. What exactly did she mean?
Giulio couldn't help but look at Luca a few more times.
...
After a sleepless night of tossing and turning, as dawn was just breaking, I dialed Marco's number once again.
My heartbeat matched the rhythm of the phone's ringing - one ring, two rings, three rings, four rings...
Once again, no one answered Marco's phone.
When no one answered once, I would call again. I had to keep calling until someone picked up.
