Chapter 31: Eunice
Mona’s words bothered me the whole day. I didn’t even know what to tell Josiah to make it up to him.
“Don’t look at me like that,” Mona chirped when she caught me glaring at her.
We are now in the hideout as we’re about to discuss our game plan. Well, we don’t really have a game plan. We just love talking about the gangs that we beat who keep sending us gang fight invitations.
I took a deep breath and cocked my head to the side. “What was that? You totally acted so rude to Josiah!”
Mona gave me a confused look. “I was stating a fact.”
Nanette laughed while Mitch was shaking her head.
“Yes, but did you have to act that way? You looked like you hate him!” I exclaimed.
Mona nodded. “I hate guys like him so there must be some truth to your words.”
My jaw dropped at what she said. Mona was usually quiet but when she talks, everything she says makes sense. I see her in Dorian that’s why I always talk to him. And besides, he is the most tolerable among Josiah’s friends.
Nanette chuckled. “You seem so affected, Eunice. You like him already?”
My eyes widened at her words. There is no way I am going to confess my feelings for Josiah to them. They would tease me.
Mitch nudged Nanette. “Of course, she likes him. She wouldn’t let him kiss her if she doesn’t,” she said.
Nanette nodded. “Makes sense,” she shrugged as she continued looking through the pages of the magazine.
Mitch smiled as she glanced at me. “You know your worth, Eunice. I admit that Josiah’s actions are over the top but always remember his history.”
I bit my lip and sighed. I understand where they are coming from. I know that they are concerned that Josiah might cheat on me in the future just like what he did now.
But if we all live in that kind of thinking, I don’t know how people will live at peace because of the uncertainty.
Josiah said he will talk to Hannah today. I am wishing him the best because Hannah has been the center of his life for so long. She might not like it. She might get mad.
Damn, thinking about it makes me nervous.
Mitch took a deep breath. “You know what? Let’s start with some of the information I got from HerShe,” she laid some pictures on the table.
My eyes widened at the faces in there. They are bloody and exhausted. “What the…?”
Mona narrowed her eyes as she took one picture. “I know this girl,” she said.
Nanette was still busy absorbing the pictures in front of us. I was beyond mad. “Did SeQret do this?” I asked Mitch.
She nodded. “The girls were members of Pitfort,” she said and then looked at Mona. “That’s Henney Han, the leader. She’s also a member of the Student Council in our university.”
Mona clenched her jaw. “This is terrible,” she muttered.
“Unbelievable. How could they do this? They are so…” Nanette couldn’t even continue her sentence because she couldn’t find a word to properly describe them.
Lethal?
Evil?
I don’t know.
What I only know now is how to beat them up and make them pay for all of the horrible things they did to some harmless gangs.
I know Pitfort. We haven’t faced them in a fight yet because they do not ask for fights. They were in the same advocacy as us. They were against female gangs who beat shits out of innocent ones.
There is a little irony on our part but we only fight because if we didn’t, the gangs will never learn their lesson. And then all of the things we are fighting for will go down the drain.
Mitch started discussing the possible alliances SeQret could have. If they joined forces with male gangs then they would increase their power and connections. But it doesn’t mean they can beat us.
I know they can’t. No matter what they do, we can’t let them beat us. We need to keep beating the bad so they can learn their lesson.
“I don’t care who they join forces with,” I said. The three looked at me. “I just want to beat them up badly this time.”
I was already gritting my teeth and clenching my fists.
Mitch nodded. “I understand but we still need to a heads up. I have contacted some gangs and they said they will tell me if they were contacted by SeQret. I hope this works.”
“It needs to work,” Nanette’s eyes were dark and intense. “Like Eunice, I want to beat them up. And maybe take a picture of them like this.”
“And then put them up on the streets so people would know about them,” Mona added.
Nanette smirked. “That’s a good idea,” she nodded.
Mitch continued to discuss all the possible scenarios and asked us to be vigilant and careful.
It took us about four hours to discuss all those because it was almost 10 in the evening when I got home.
“Good evening, Ma’am,” Nela greeted.
I looked around the house and it was quiet. I believe Josiah hasn’t come home yet.
Nela smiled. “Mr. Josiah hasn’t come home yet,” she said as if reading the question in my mind.
I nodded and started walking to the bedroom. I closed the door and sat on the edge of the bed as I took my phone from my bag to check if he sent me texts.
But there were no new messages.
Something inside me deflated suddenly. I can’t help but wonder if something went wrong. Did he talk to her successfully? Was he able to explain everything to her?
Mitch’s and Mona’s words were playing repeatedly in my head. I don’t really overthink or overanalyze but now, I do.
I went on to type a text for him.
Me: Where are you?
I hate the clinginess in my text. Why would I know where he is right now? I don’t have to do that, right?
I took a deep breath as I composed another text for him telling him that I am just asking it because Nela’s cooking would get colder. But when I was about to send it, the bedroom door opened revealing Josiah.
I stood up as I watched him.
Something was off with him. He looked so exhausted…and somewhat angry.
He saw me but he just nodded at me before walking to the walk-in closet and then to the bathroom.
I was stoned on my spot. What happened?
Why is he suddenly cold when just hours ago, he was throwing himself at me?
Or was he just tired?
My heart constricted as I continued to think about the possible reasons why he is acting this way. I swallowed a forming lump on my throat as I walked down to the living room.
My phone vibrated.
Mitch: I saw Josiah drop Hannah home when I was on the way home. He kissed her goodbye. I don’t think they broke up.
I narrowed my eyes at the screen before trying to contain the pain that my heart is feeling right now.
Was it normal to feel suffocated with pain? Because that’s what I am feeling now.
And now, his coldness makes sense to me. I’m stupid to believe.
