Chapter 32: Josiah

When I finished taking a bath, Eunice was gone. She wasn’t in our room.

I sighed and went to bed. I don’t know if I still have some guts to show myself to her after what happened to her. Now, I’m the biggest asshole in the whole universe.

I took my phone and saw Eunice’s message for me.

Eunice: Where are you?

My heart immediately constricted upon reading her message. She was worried about me. I can see from her expression when I got here. She wanted to know what happened but backed away.

Fuck. I broke my promised to her. I told her I will break up with Hannah but I didn’t. I was so into the fact that my mother told her about my marriage that I couldn’t bring myself to end it with her.

All this time, Hannah has been keeping all her pain from me. I felt awful and somewhat responsible for that.

I waited for an hour until the bedroom door opened. Eunice came on and walked straight to the walk-in closet. She got some clothes before going inside the bathroom.

I wanted to wait for her because I want to explain. But what is there to explain? I want to apologize because I couldn’t do what I was ought to do.

I can almost hear Dorian’s hurtful words in my ear but I was torn. I was confused and I can’t stop this feeling.

It took her over half an hour before she got out of the shower. She walked towards the bed and got her pillow.

I looked at her, confused. I sat up and was about to speak when she threw a glance and nodded before walking towards the door and closing it.

My eyes widened. Where is she going?

I immediately stood up and followed her. There I saw her in the living room, trying to position herself on the couch.

My chest is getting heavier by the minute. She’s not ignoring me. She acknowledged me because she nodded at me. I should feel better but why can’t I?

I took a deep breath as I walked towards her. She’s already lying on the couch while watching some sappy TV series.

“Hey,” I called her and she looked at me, smiling.

She sat up. “Have you eaten?” she asked normally.

I clenched my jaw and sat beside her. “I ate with…Hannah,” I replied as pain gushed in my heart like a huge wave.

I watched her expression but it didn’t change. She just nodded. “Ah, yeah,” she said before locking her eyes on the screen again.

She’s normal—the normal Eunice who didn’t care, the normal Eunice who treats me in a civil way.

Why is she not asking me what happened?

Although I don’t know how I would answer that.

I don’t know how to respond to that without hurting her. I don’t know what response I would tell her to at least lessen the pain for her.

“What are you watching?” I asked, choosing to not go on to a topic that I am not comfortable with.

She shrugged. “The Faithful Husband,” she replied and then looked at me.

I froze when she told me the title. It somehow gave me chills in my system. She said in a mocking manner that I would think she was pertaining to me.

“This is the most watched series of 2018,” she added.

I nodded and decided to stop talking.

We sat there, side by side, watching the darned drama series about a husband cheating on his wife. I took glances at Eunice from time to time and she was just watching it without any emotion on her face.

I pursed my lips in a thin line. She looked like the movie didn’t affect her at all. Or maybe it really didn’t?

I tried to hold her hand but she suddenly stood up, avoiding my touch. She looked at me like she didn’t do anything bad. “Are you thirsty? I’m getting water,” she said.

I clenched my jaw and shook my head. “Are you going to sleep here?” I asked her because her pillow was already on the edge of the couch, very ready for anyone to sleep on it.

She shrugged. “I am cold inside the room,” she reasoned.

I looked at her intently, hoping for a hint of emotion on her face. I want to see if she’s affected by my presence. But I got nothing. She was cool.

She was civil.

Damn it.

She was driving me crazy.

“I can adjust the aircon,” I suggested.

She raised her brow at me. “No need. I’ll just sleep here. I plan on watching TV until I fall asleep.”

I filled my lungs with air as I tried to control my emotion. “We have a TV up there,” I reminded her.

“You’ll be disturbed,” she retorted.

How can she think of her responses that fast?

I nodded, defeated. “I can sleep here. You can sleep on the bed,” I volunteered.

Eunice stared at me with an unreadable expression. “Nah, I’m good here,” she shook her head and turned to the kitchen to get her water.

God damn it!

I tried reaching out Mom but it always goes on the voicemail. She’s out of the country for business with Dad. Damn it.

I walked down and saw Nela looking at me. I narrowed my eyes at her. “Where’s Eunice?”

She frowned. “She already left with her friend, Sir,” she said in a somewhat cold tone.

She turned her back at me and proceeded to the kitchen. There was food on the table but I was not hungry for breakfast.

I sighed as I walked towards my car and started to drive to school. Eunice rode with her friend. Was it with Nanette? Or Mitch? Or Mona?

I locked my car and got out when I arrived at the parking lot. I narrowed my eyes at white Camaro that’s not too far from my parking space.

I know that car. It’s Kyle Kim’s. I tried to ignore it but when I saw Eunice getting off from it, I felt a surge of anger inside me. I automatically clenched my fists and started to dash towards them.

Eunice was smiling as Kyle Kim tells her something. I wonder if it’s funny because she was almost laughing. Damn, I’ve never seen her smiling that way when she was with me.

Kyle saw me and glared at me when he saw me walking towards them. I can’t help but glare back. How can he use someone as hard as this? It’s been a while since Eunice started ignoring him but why is he acting this close now? I don’t understand and that’s what I need to know.

Eunice’s eyes widened when she already saw me standing in front of her. I towered over her as I stared at her intently. “Why are you with him?” I asked as I gritted my teeth.

Kyle narrowed his eyes at me and then looked at Eunice. “You know him, baby?” he asked in confusion.

Eunice stared at me and then transferred her glance at Kyle. “Yeah, he’s someone I met at a party,” she replied.

I scowled at her when I heard how she introduced me to that bastard. “Are you serious?” I asked her with emphasis on all of the words.

“Is he bothering you?” Kyle Kim asked her.

Eunice looked at me and then smiled at Kyle Kim. “No,” she shook her head. “Let’s go?” she asked Kyle, totally ignoring me.

Kyle glared at me for one last time before nodding at Eunice. “Sure, baby,” he said before taking her hand on his and started to walk away.

Eunice looked at me for the last time before leaving me. Fuck.
