Chapter 92 Jumping The Fences
Chapter 92 Jumping The Fences
Hazel
Elaine was shocked to see Lyra behind me.
“It's nothing, Lyra. Go on with what you are doing,” I flashed her a smile and walked to Elaine, but was forced to stop when Lyra's voice rose again.
“I know you are sneaking her out of the territory,” she said.
Elaine, who had already turned, getting ready to leave with me, stopped and turned her gaze to Lyra immediately.
“Then I can't let you stay here.” Elaine moved into the kitchen. “I'll have to lock you up until I get back.”
“No, I can't tell anyone,” Lyra quickly said. “I'm also in support of it. Hazel doesn't want to stay here, so it's only ideal that she leaves.”
“No, I can't trust you.” Elaine grabbed her by the arm and shoved her out of the door quickly.
Lyra gasped, and that made me grab her other hand, stopping Elaine from taking her away.
Elaine's gaze was darkened as she brought it back to me. “Let go”
Her voice was stern, laced with venom.
“Let her go. If you don't trust her, I do,” I said. “Lyra won't tell anyone just like she had said.”
Elaine was having none of that as she yanked my hand off Lyra.
“Your only concern is to get out of here; whatever happens should be none of your business,” she spat.
“She's my friend. I can't let you lock her up because of me,” I also said out of anger.
This situation is simple. Leave Lyra all alone, then we leave. I trust that she isn't going to rat me out, and even if she does, then it won't hurt anyone but only me, as I would be the one to be returned to the vampire coven.
Maybe it would hurt Elaine because she desperately wants me gone.
Elaine took a deep breath like she was trying to keep her anger in check. “Stay out of it,” she looked at me with her eyes filled with determination and hatred.
Kyra’s voice rose before I could try to defend her again. “Please trust me, I won't tell anyone.”
“You can take me along if you want, for you to know I'm really serious about keeping this a secret,” Lyra begged.
Elaine stared at her for a while, like she was contemplating whether she should take her along or not.
“We’ll take her. She promised to keep it a secret,” I said, facing Elaine. “She’s my friend, and I trust her.”
Elaine scoffed. “You've barely spent a week here in the vampire’s territory, but you already call her a friend? And what? You trust her?” She scoffed again, looking at me like I was sick in the head.
“We’ll take her.” She added before moving away from us. “We will be taking the back gate, be fast.”
Lyra and I locked our gazes before I followed Elaine, and she followed after me.
Elaine looked everywhere before she took steps, but she walked fast, though not fast enough to be seen as invincible.
She used a hand to halt the both of us behind her when we got to the gates.
There were guards patrolling. I looked out and could see there were three.
Elaine wouldn't want them to know that she came here when I'm finally gone, and they are investigating how I disappeared.
She stayed silent, but I was sure she was trying to fathom how we’d leave where we were standing.
“I'll distract them, while I'm gone, jump over the fence quickly,” Lyra said.
I turned my face to her, surprised. She looks too fragile, and I wouldn't want her to get into trouble because of me.
“No--” I wanted to object, but Elaine spoke before I could.
“You should take the corner to take them out. We will wait right behind the gates,” she instructed, locking her eyes with Lyra.
Lyra pressed her lips together in a way that showed determination, and she nodded.
“I understand,” she moved away from my back, and I blinked in surprise.
Was Elaine just being cruel, and did she want Lyra to get caught because she didn't want her to come with us? Or could she really pull that off?
Her voice snapped me out of my thoughts. “When she distracts them, I jump, and you jump.”
“You should have learnt combat skills, so you should be able to,” she continued. “And if you can't, you should shift and jump.”
She wasn't facing me as she said those words, but I kept my gaze on her and kept blinking.
“I can't do both,” I said.
She snapped her gaze to me, her look showing how surprised she was.
“What?” She asked, her face twitching in disbelief.
I thought she should have heard, but I guess not.
“I am wolfless. I couldn't shift when I turned eighteen,” I said. “And I've always been locked up in my house, so I wasn't taught any combat.”
She groaned annoyingly. She didn't give a response and only turned her gaze back to the guards.
We waited for Lyra to make her move, and then we saw stones being thrown at the guards.
One of them gestured to the other two to go check up on who's there, and they left.
Before they came back, stone was being thrown at the other end too, and I was sure it was Lyra, though I couldn't fathom how quickly she could get there.
The other guard too left to check, and Elaine signaled forward with her hands.
“Now is the time,” she said in a very low tone. “Stay glued to me, and I'll get us out of here.”
I nodded. She sprinted towards the gate, and I tried my best to keep up with her pace.
When she got to the walls, she pushed back with her legs on the wall, and I was surprised at how quickly she jumped, and I was made to watch her up in the air..
Before she could end up on the other side of the wall, she grabbed my hand and carried me along with her with just one hand.
I gasped, but was quick in hiding my surprise so we don't get caught.
We crouched down beside the wall and waited for Lyra.
Would she be able to jump? Or will Elaine have to keep watch for her to get her out here when she arrives?
I was still thinking about this when I heard a loud thud that made my heart beat faster for just a moment and made me look startled.
It was Lyra. “Damn, I didn't know you were this skilled,” I commented.
She smiled and winked at me.
Elaine chirped in. “Vampires are always trained right from birth.”
“Let's move,” she said.
We stayed squatting until we were completely away from the wall surrounding the mansion.
“We’ll take this way, we need to avoid the patrolling enforcers and reduce the number of residents who see us,” she said.
Who was I to argue? I didn't know anywhere, I just knew I'd be following her until she got me out of the vampire territory.
And when I'm out, I'd go back to my father. The deed has been done, I'm pregnant, and there's nothing we can do to retract that. But the most important thing is to get out of here.
