Chapter 91 Planning An Escape

Chapter 91 Planning An Escape
Hazel

I watched as the fight went on. I watched as Elaine fell to the floor, and that was the strangest thing of all.

The gun was at close range, and she saw the human who held the gun as he tried to shoot, but he hesitated.

He was hesitating because he had been caught. He knew Elaine could rush to him and kill him before he pulled the trigger, but Elaine let him shoot.

She could have also dodged but she only shifted a bit and that made the bullet graze her stomach. No matter how much I thought about it, that was intentional.

I had been taken back to my room with Maverick warning me not to do anything funny.

I was restless. I paced around the room, not knowing how to make sense of what happened.

I know Dad won't give up, nor would Damien. However, the problem is that even Ethan won't give me up.

I moved out of the room and headed to Elaine's room. When I opened the door to her room, Kai was inside, standing and watching her like a guard would.

She sighted me and bowed slightly in respect.

“You look tired,” I smiled at her, even though that was a lie. She looked less stressed than I was at the moment.

“You should take a rest. I'll watch over Elaine,” I said.

Kai looked at me like she was unsure, but she bowed slightly and exited the room.

When she was gone, I moved closer to Elaine's bed and took a good look at her.

Her wound had been bandaged, and she was lying in bed, with only her breath being the only thing that felt alive, except for my presence in the room.

I stared at her for long time, staying silent. Suddenly, her eyes fluttered open, landing on me.

I didn't look surprised or lean closer to her to ask if she was okay.

She also didn't look like someone who had gone unconscious and had just woken up.

“You never lost consciousness, did you?” I asked.

She stood up and sat on the bed with a groan. Her eyes darted to her wounded stomach, and she placed a hand on it, puffing out a sigh.

“Why did you come here?” She asked, looking at me with the same gaze she had always used.

That look of hatred doesn't seem like it would ever disappear from her face.

“To find answers to the questions I have,” I said.

I looked around the room and found a stool. I moved over to it and dragged it to the bed, sitting in front of Elaine.

“That bullet. It was intentional, wasn't it?” I asked with my eyes getting squinted.

Elaine locked eyes with me, and her face darkened. “I did it to get you out of here.”

I didn't understand and was glad she was willing to explain before I asked what she meant.

“I’ll find a way to sneak you out of here,” she said. “Then it's left to you to know where to go.”

“If you decide to go back to your people, then it's up to them to protect you from the vampire lord.”

“But keep this in mind,” she said. “If you return here, I'll kill you.”

I chuckled while keeping my gaze fixed on her. “We’ll see. First, we should see if your plan to get me out will succeed.”

“I knew everything was a pretense,” I shook my head. “You actually risked your life just to get me out of Ethan’s life?”

She gnashed her teeth. “Lord Ethan! It's lord Ethan, bitch!”

I stood up from the stool and took two steps closer to her, my legs arching into the bed.

“You'd better go back to sleep,” I said. “You don't want him coming back here and seeing that you have been pretending.”

I turned and walked out of the room, heading back into mine.

The rest of the day went faster. I stayed in my room, having no one to check on me except Kai, who came to inform me when my dinner was done.

The next morning, the sun had risen when I woke up. It was around 9am.

I stood up and stretched my arms before walking to the kitchen downstairs.

There was someone in the kitchen, and that made me slow my steps, being cautious.

Someone was standing, her back facing me. She was drinking something, and her throat was taking it all in, making her gulp and swallow.

I took a step subconsciously, and that made her turn.

My eyes widened in shock as I stepped backwards, my legs almost buckling.

Lyra was the one in the kitchen. She had blood all over her mouth, dripping down to her chin.

It wasn't that much of a terrifying sight, but I was just shocked and caught off guard.

She blinked her eyes. “Hazel?”

I stood back upright and straightened my back. “Sorry, I was just startled.”

I moved into the kitchen, but was a bit scared to move closer to her.  I grabbed a bottle of water and uncapped it. I gulped the contents of the bottle while the corner of my eye looked at Lyra.

Lyra noticed and chuckled. “I'm sorry. I must have scared you, didn't I?”

Right now, she still scares me, but I forced a smile to my lips and turned to look at her.

“It's okay,” I choked out.

“But maybe you should clean that first,” I said in a low tone.

Her hand went to her chin, and she checked what I was talking about by using her fingers to touch the blood that had dripped down to her top.

“Ahh,” she exclaimed. “I'm sorry,” she quickly wiped the blood with her hand and rinsed it in the sink.

“This is just how clumsy I feed, I'm sorry, she kept apologizing.

I tried to relax around her and was able to. “It's normal to be clumsy,” I said and walked to her.

I placed a hand on her shoulder and placed the other on her chin, wiping the little blood she couldn't wipe away.

“What blood was that?” I feel disgusted asking, but I did anyway.

“A deer. Or maybe that was human blood?” She said,

Her words made me shiver and shift a little bit away from her quickly.

I remembered Ethan teasing me about human blood before and I barely got scared, but hearing another vampire talking about it again, it made my breath hitch.

“Just kidding,” she quickly said, seeing the way I reacted. “I don't know what it is, but it tasted like deer.”

I blinked my eyes and left my lips parted for a while. They drink blood and can even differentiate the type of blood it is.

Lyra continued. “The rule one the vampires must never break is never to drink human blood for pleasure.”

Before I could reply, I heard quick footsteps approach the door.

"Let's go. This is the right time,” I turned to see Elaine, who was damn sick in bed the previous day, standing by the door.

Her gaze darted to the back, and she looked surprised to realize that someone was behind me.

“Go where?” Lyra asked, but Elaine and I weren't ready to explain.
