Chapter 79 Her Kidnappers

Chapter 79 Her Kidnappers
Hazel

I anticipated the next day Herald talked about, even though parts of me didn't want to believe any of this.

Was he going to take me to live far away with him? Just because he's obsessed? Absurd!

I was woken from sleep with a tap, and that made me jolt up, even though I couldn't stand because I was still tied to the chair.

My gaze squinted open, landing on Herald, who untied the rope they had used to tie me down to the chair.

My whole body ached, my muscles hurting, but I didn't have time to process that.

Herald lifted me off the chair, and his father also appeared.

“Let's hurry!” He urged him.

I stared at the man with venom in my eyes. “You piece of trash! My father trusted you.”

He scoffed. “And I trusted your father in return. The least he could do to pay my son back for watching over you was to give your hand to him in marriage, but he thinks we are worthless and aren’t worthy of you!”

A laugh escaped my lips, sounding weak and low because of the current state I’m in. “And you think you are worthy of me?” I laughed again. “Keep dreaming! You'll never have me!”

Herald held me tighter, yanking me forward. “Enough with your bullshit, you can't fight this. You are mine, and we are getting rid of that thing inside of you!” He said.

They dragged me out of the place where they had locked me in, and his words kept haunting me inside.

Get rid of that thing. That's my baby he's talking about. For weeks, I was able to hide it away from Damien, my father, and even Ariella. And that was only because I wanted to keep the child, but this asshole thinks I'd let him get rid of the child.

Outside, a man was standing, and he bowed his head when we got out.

“Let's leave,” Herald said, his gaze darkening.

He held me by the wrist, not so tightly, just enough to make me move my feet against my will.

His father followed us from behind, and the new man who looked more like a bodyguard or a very skilled fighter followed at the last end, looking out every side as he walked.

It's becoming real. Herald is already having me leave with him.

I didn't know whether to just resign to fate and accept the fact that I'll be disappearing with Herald like he and his father want, or whether to hold on to the tiniest bit of hope that my father or Damien would come for me.

I looked around, and thoughts clouded my mind. I thought of yanking my hand away from Herald and making a run for it, but the other part of me knew that was stupid.

It would be fruitless, as I wouldn't make it far before they get me again.

We continued walking in silence, everyone except me being vigilant and alert of the surroundings, while all I thought about was how to run off.

The walk was endless, and soon I began to grow weary and more tired. Herald had to use more energy to be able to drag me to keep up with his pace.

The others seemed tired as I could hear Beta Bestat's hard breath becoming clearer, and the other man also looked worn out.

“Let's take a rest,” Beta Bestat choked out, unable to hold it any longer. I breathed out in relief as Herald let go of my hand.

His gaze still lingered on me even after he did, and I knew what he was thinking. That I'd try to run away.

But I wasn't stupid, I knew I shouldn't be reckless.

They all settled down on wooden stones that could be seen around and used them as chairs.

Herald unpacked his backpack and handed a bottle of water to me. I collected it without a bit of hesitation and gulped the contents of the bottle before throwing the bottle to the floor and letting out a deep breath of relief.

He stood up, his hands going to his pocket. His father stood beside him, and they both talked, and I could hear what they talked about from where I stood.

“How much longer do we have before we get to the penthouse?” Beta Bestat asked.

His gaze lifted to look at Herald, who tucked his second hand into his pocket. “It will take quite a while before we get there. Close to two hours,” he said.

My heart hammered in my chest at his words. Two hours? I didn't know how long I would be able to walk and do this. No, I can't do it anymore.

I looked around, thinking of a way out of this.

Herald and his Dad were still busy talking, their voices fading in the background.

The man we came with had his head downcast a few steps away from me, as he looked really exhausted.

Run! A voice said in my head, and I decided to listen to it.

I stood up stealthily, moving away from everyone as I kept looking back to make sure I had not been seen.

A few minutes later, I was completely out of their sights and none of them noticed.

This was my chance, and I need to use it now.

I began running, carrying my weak body with all the strength left in me. I kept running, my breath getting harder as every minute ticked by.

But soon, I began to hear heavy footsteps behind me.

I turned for a brief moment and saw the man who was with Herald sprinting towards me, his feet and hands moving so quickly.

My breath hitched. They've found out.

Herald was running behind him, both of them chasing me. I could also see Beta Bestat trying to catch up.

No! I can't let them catch up with me. I kept running, gathering all the strength I could. I kept heading into turns, and soon, I left them far behind.

That didn't make me stop running, but my body was forced down on the ground when a leg was intentionally placed in front of me.

“Argh,” I groaned and held my ankle, which had hit the rough floor so mercilessly.

I looked up, my face still wrinkled, and when my gaze landed on the people in front of me, I realized it wasn't Herald and his people, but different people entirely.

“Whoohoo!” One of them screamed with excitement, flailing his hand, which held a sword to the air.

“What do we have today?” Another said, and they all surrounded me.

I was getting so scared at the moment, seeing all the men around me. They were all armed, dressed in clothes made of fur like hunters.

But I knew better. I knew who they were. They were rogues.

One of them directed his sword at me, the metal landing at my throat.

I gulped, becoming more panicked instantly.

Just then, Herald's bodyguard, who had been running after me, got to me, and seconds later, Herald stopped right behind him.

One of the rogues who looked like the leader turned away from me to them.

“Haha,” he let out a laugh. “Looks like our little flower has got company.”

I knew then that not only was I in trouble, but also my kidnappers.
