Chapter 80: The Possibility
Ethan
The previous day was spent picking out my suit and Elaine's dress.
The wedding was one with short notice, which would require a lot of rushing.
Elaine beamed through the whole day with a smile on her face as she anticipated the next day more than anyone.
The day came, faster than anticipated.
I sat in my study, already dressed for the big day as Elaine had referred to it.
I was thinking about stuff. I knew it wasn't the best decision I was making at the moment, but I knew I had to do this.
I need to marry Elaine and forget the alpha’s daughter. While tied to Elaine as her husband, it would be impossible to think about Hazel all the time.
A knock came on the door, and that made me lift my gaze, shoving the thoughts aside.
Before I could tell the person to come inside, Elaine stepped in, her face beaming with a smile.
She moved over to me with her hand clasped together, her fingers intertwined.
When she got to me, she puffed out air from her mouth. “Damn, I'm so nervous. I still can't believe this is happening.”
I forced myself to smile back at her. “It is. I will be getting married to you.”
Her smile widened. “I know, right. I'm so happy.”
She was acting not like the mighty Elaine at the moment but like a kid who was handed a sweet after being deprived of it for a long.
“I thought they always said the groom isn't supposed to see the bride until she walks down to the altar,” I said.
She gasped and chuckled now. “I'll leave now. I really can't wait for us to get married in front of everyone.”
She widened her smile one more time before she moved out the door, while I sighed deeply.
Hazel. She was trying to get into my head; even when I talked with Elaine, it took everything to be able to focus on discussing with Elaine and not thinking about her.
I stood up, arranged my table, and paced the room with my hands in my pockets.
The wedding reception was still surely not filled with people. I'd let a few moments pass before I head there and allow this thing to start.
I've always known weddings to suck, but here I was, dressed to have one.
It didn't take long before another knock came on the door. My gaze snapped towards the entrance, and I found myself letting out a groan.
Elaine, again?
But another part of me didn't think it was Elaine, as she hadn't pushed the door open. “Come in,” I said.
The door opened gently, and the person at the door came into view. It was Maverick, not Elaine.
I looked at him with a squinted gaze. I haven't seen him around for a while, as I had told him to keep an eye on Hazel's case.
“My Lord,” he bowed, jolting me out of my thoughts.
“Do you have anything?” I asked.
He stepped closer by taking two steps towards me before stopping again and bowing his head slightly.
He said. “Hazel has still not been found.”
I knew it. She must have run away with the one she really wants to be with. But I've followed and stalked her a few times and haven't seen her getting close to anyone or doing anything worth getting suspicious of.
Why would I even care?
“What else?” I asked.
“The pregnancy inside her is not for the president's son, as rumors are carrying it around in the Alpha's mansion,” he said.
I blinked, turning my body fully to face Maverick.
Not for Damien? Then for whom?
My head started going into places. Was she a bitch who sleeps around? Just like how Maverick got to see her in the club that day and brought her over to me?
No, Ethan! What the fuck are you saying? That night at the club was her first, and I took her virginity.
Only a few days after that, she got to live in Damien's mansion like Williams had said.
Then there's a possibility that the child could be mine.
My jaws tightened, and my face darkened. She could be carrying my child inside of her, and she's somewhere out there with no one knowing where she is.
I was still trying to process what I had just heard from Maverick when another knock came on the door.
Maverick's gaze snapped to the door, and so did mine.
His gaze snapped back to me, asking a question, and I gave him the nodding signal.
“Who’s there?” Maverick's voice rang out.
“It's Williams’’ the voice outside replied.
“Come in,” Maverick said again, and the door opened, revealing Williams.
He bowed in respect before lifting his gaze back up, though still bowing a bit as he stood.
“What's it?” I asked, my voice dark and low.
“We've been able to find Hazel's location, my lord,” he said.
My eyes shot up at his words. “Where? How?” I asked.
“Somewhere deep in the woods. While staking out at the Alpha's territory, we found his Beta suspiciously leaving the pack and decided to track his digits, which led us to where she is.”
Beta Bestat. He has a hand in her kidnapping.
That instant, I recalled his son, Herald Bestat. He had followed her silently on a bike the other day like a fucking stalker.
He is the one behind this. He is obsessed with her and doesn't want her to get married.
Damn, I should have thought of this before. I should have gotten a hint in my head that it's him, instead of suspecting Elaine for taking her.
“Send the location to my phone,” I said to Williams before facing Maverick. “We are going to fetch her.”
Without hesitation, I grabbed my phone from the desk where I had placed it and dashed for the door.
When I opened the door, Elaine was standing, and the color drained from her face.
“Ethan….” She croaked.
“I promise to be back soon,” I said hurriedly.
I didn't need to be told that she had heard everything. She knew that I was leaving our wedding, which was bound to start in a few minutes.
I walked past her, but she grabbed my arms, holding me back.
Her gaze was fixed on the ground as she swallowed hard, then she lifted her gaze to look at me.
Her eyes had become blurred with tears, and her voice rose. “I came back here to tell you I had a peek at the wedding hall.” She swallowed again.
“I wanted to tell you it's so well decorated, and some of the councilmen are already present,” she paused. “But you are leaving.”
“I'll be back soon, Elaine,” I took her hands off me and rushed out before she could stop me again.
Maverick followed behind me, both of us heading for the woods.
I checked my phone, checking the location that had been sent to me.
It's quite far away from here, and I know that place; it's dangerous. I need to get there to save her from the beasts her father had always trusted.
I already told myself I won't be getting myself involved with her anymore, but I just couldn't help it.
