Chapter 77 Marriage In Two Days
Chapter 77 Marriage In Two Days
Ethan
“I decided to pay a visit to you, Ethan. But your face looks like you aren't pleased with that,” Marcus said.
He had seen that despite sitting in front of me, I still looked over at my laptop, trying to work some things out.
A way of telling him his presence wasn't welcome, or he wasn't important.
I sighed in frustration and looked up at him. “I expect you to get on with whatever it is you have to say, Marcus. I don't have all day.”
His smile turned into a glare, and his jaw clenched. He was angry with the way I talked to him, but that only made me scoff.
I'm a hundred years old, and Marcus should be around three hundred.
One of the reasons why he finds anything I say disrespectful. But in this world, you get respect only if you hold power.
“Step down, Ethan,” he said, and his words were dropped like a bomb.
Elaine rushed to him before I could even give a response. She dragged him up by the collar of his shirt, but Marcus pushed her off with a hand, and Elaine slammed her back into the wall so hard.
She coughed as she fell to the floor, and her deadly gaze went to Marcus.
She stood up almost immediately and rushed to Marcus again, but before she could get to him, my voice stopped her.
She was no match for Marcus, who was two hundred years older than she was; she'd only get hurt.
“Elaine, stop.”
She did, and Marcus straightened his shirt and glared at her.
“You have quite a lot of energy, but you need to work on your side attack tactics,” Marcus smirked.
“Thanks for the compliment and the lesson,” Elaine glared back at him.
Marcus turned his gaze back to me. He stepped closer and placed his hand on my desk.
“You need to step down, Ethan,” he repeated.
I stared at him for a while before I sighed and slammed the laptop in front of me shut.
Then I leaned back in the chair and crossed my arms.
“Don't you think you are being so bold right now, Marcus? You dare tell me to step down?” I scoffed
“Not me, the council wants me to tell you that,” he said.
Council. I laughed at the word. Since my father died, I've made it clear to them that I don't want anything to do with them.
I won't be one of those rulers who are controlled and have to act like puppets to those thousand-year-old men.
“The reason?” I asked while raising a brow.
Marcus took his hand away from the desk and walked around the office.
“Last week, a woman from the south here got killed by some rogue wolves in the forest around the east, but we heard you didn't do anything about it.” He paused. “Why?” He snapped his gaze to me.
I kept silent and let him answer the question himself.
“Because you didn't even know it happened!” He snapped.
He was right, I haven't heard about the case he was talking about, and it was so stupid for me to hear this from someone else and not someone from the south here.
No one reported it, or maybe I just never gave them a chance to do so, because I was barely around, and even when I was, I never did the roll checks on the estates anymore.
Marcus continued. “A lot of other similar cases, Ethan.”
“And today, the alpha of the Ashborne pack was here. It was your chance to take over his territory and rule over the werewolves in that pack, but what did you do?” He paused again.
“You let him go,” he said.
“The council has ears and eyes here, Ethan. And even though they had left you all alone all these years because you wanted them to, they still have the right to stick their nose in any vampire's affairs” Marcus thundered.
“And they want me to step down because of this?” I chuckled.
Marcus faced me and walked to me with speed, placing his hand on the desk again.
“A wife, too, Ethan,” he gritted. “You are supposed to have gotten a wife by now,” he said.
I stood up from behind the desk and walked to him slowly. I placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled while showing my fangs.
“Report back to the council for me, Marcus,” I said.
“I don't give a fuck about them. I never did, and I won't start doing so now,” I continued.
“So tell them to do whatever they want, but the moment they start messing with me, they'll find out I'm the vampire lord, Ethan,” I gritted.
“I'll show them what it's like to be a lord who holds power over all the coven, including their lives,” I said.
I moved back to my desk slowly and settled down, then I put my hands together on the desk.
“And oh, about the marriage, I was planning on that. I'll be getting married to Elaine in two days,” I said.
I know even Elaine would be shocked, and she would think this is some kind of joke, but it's not.
“There are no invitation cards, but all the council members are invited,” I said.
I lifted my brows and gestured them towards the door, a way to tell Marcus to get out of my study.
He did without hesitation, not without glaring at Elaine and me.
When he was finally gone, Elaine appeared in front of me, and her face was still filled with shock.
“Was the lie necessary?” She asked.
“That we would be getting married?” I raised a brow.
“Yes. You could have just made it clear to him that you won't be getting married, there's nothing they can do” she said.
“It's not a lie, I want to get married to you in two days, you don't want that?” I asked with a frown.
Elaine staggered backwards and smiled. “No way! This is finally happening!!”
“You don't want it?” I asked again, even though I was so sure she wanted it more than I did.
“Of course I do,” she rushed to me and hugged me.
I didn't push her away or say anything. Afterall, she will be my wife in two days.
For years, we had talked about it. For years, we had fought over marriage.
I wasn't ready, still not ready, but I would be willing to give it a try and make it work.
I wouldn't be getting married to her because Marcus talked about it, but that was also a part of it.
I had been neglecting my duties for weeks because of the girl from the club who turned out to be Hazel.
But not anymore, I wouldn't care about her, about her disappearance, or anything.
I would just focus on ruling the coven together with Elaine once she becomes my wife.
And in two days, that would be happening.
It was the only thing I could think of, the only way to get rid of Hazel from every one of my thoughts and daily routines, and I don't care. Not anymore.
