Chapter 61
Chapter 61
Evelyn’s POV
“Damon?”
It was a bit strange because I still couldn’t find Damon anywhere even if Dylan had told me he was looking for me.
If the yacht hasn’t taken off yet, I would have imagined that he hadn’t come onboard, but there is no way we would leave without him.
I got to a room, even though the door was shut, I felt strangely drawn to whatever was inside that room, or whoever was in there.
I knocked gently on the door and waited for a response, but non was forthcoming. That was strange, I was more than sure that I could feel someone in there.
I gently pushed on the door. It was open, leading me into the room.
The design of the room was on point, everything seemed to be in place and the texture masculine and nice. His scent hit me before anything else. I suck in a breath, letting his scent wash its way through me.
Then I saw him, he was awfully relaxed, going through some documents as though I was not in existence, or maybe he didn’t want to see me.
I stood there watching him awkwardly, watching as he flipped through the pages with such calmness that dragged at my heart.
He is supposed to acknowledge me, maybe look at me or say something, but he seemed very determined not to say a word to me. I bit my lower lip, trying to hold back myself from cursing at him.
“Why are you here?” His voice came then, slow but a bit too cold than usual. He must have sensed my mood and decided to ask, but why did that question make me feel even more angry.
“You asked for me?” I couldn’t hold back the frown that stretched its way on my lips.
He didn’t look up. “I did?” It was a question, straight and cold. I understood what it meant then. It was either Dylan was lying or he was, and right now I don’t think I have the energy to play detective.
I didn’t speak for a while, I just stood there watching him. It is a popular saying that when you stare at someone for so long, they get distracted and then look at you. But I stared at this guy for so long and yet he didn’t even give me a single peek, and now am at the edge of losing my mind.
“Why are you being so closed off?” I couldn’t hold it in, the question bounced off my lips before I could hold it back in.
His jaw tightened lightly but he didn’t respond. He was angry, that was for sure, but I never expected him to be so petty.
I walked closer to him, biting my lips to contain my emotions as I came to stand in front of him. “Are you seriously not going to look at me?” Maybe I sounded desperate, but none of that mattered anyway, I needed him to act normal.
For a moment, his eyelashes flickered, and then he slowly lifted his gaze at me. But his eyes didn’t hold the warmth I was used to already. There was this strange cold detachment in his eyes that made my heart tighten.
“I’ve looked at you now. Right?” With that he turned back to his work, acting again as though I am not there in front of him.
I clenched my fists, bite hard on my lower lip to reduce the anger flowing in me. “What the hell is going on with you?” My voice rose in pitch, but sadly broke at the ending, a reaction that made me feel vulnerable and exposed.
For truth, I was the one who was angry at him last night, I don’t know when or why the tables suddenly turned.
“I believe you know the answer is.” Yet again, his answer was stiff.
Just then, a thought occurred to me. “Wait, don’t tell me it’s about Seth coming to see me off.” But when his jaw tightened and he looked away, I got the answer I needed.
I scoffed. “So, we are doing this again?”
He stopped what he was doing and turned to look at me fully, his sudden stare making me freeze on my track.
“Why was he here?” It was clear this wasn’t a simple question but some kind of crazy way of reminding me that the guy he had almost killed had the nerves to show up again to see me.
I suck in a breath. “Lucien came to say goodbye, and brought him along. What are you so worried about?” My heart began pounding hard in my chest. When he didn’t respond, I asked again.
“You are worried I will cheat on you, or worst still go back to him?”
His eyes darkened lightly. “That’s not what this is about.” His voice was lighter and his eyes seemed a little weak, a little sad.
I folded my arms under my chest. “Its not, then what is this about?” I can’t believe we are having this conversation again, in just a day gap.
His eyes narrowed. “You don’t get it do you. I don’t like him around you, and you keep letting him touch you.” He spoke with an intensity that made me pause.
“What?”
“I saw him hugging you, that was inappropriate.” He was mad.
“They were just saying goodbye to me.”
“That still isn’t allowed. You shouldn’t let anyone touch you and yet you let him. That night too, he was harassing you and you let him. You didn’t even scream for help.”
My face flushed, not embarrassment but rage. “What is that supposed to mean?” God, I want nothing more than to punch this guy straight on his face.
“You think I want him to touch me, you think I have a thing for him?”
He looked at me with icy cold eyes. “I don’t know, don’t you?”
My eyes widened, and my heart tightened. “How… How dare you?” My voice cracked as rage rushed through me. “How dare you question my faithfulness?”
He looked away, something flickered in his eyes. Sadness, regret. I didn’t care anymore. I clenched my fist and looked away.
“You know what, fuck you.” With that I turned and walked away.
I heard slamming of papers behind me but I didn’t stop walking. My eyes stinging with unshed tears.
