Chapter 54
Chapter 54
Evelyn’s POV
I quickly pushed Seth away as soon as I heard his voice, and he reluctantly let me go. Damon looked furious, enough to set a house ablaze with just the fiery gaze he was showing right now.
My heart began to pound harshly in my chest. “Damon…” I called out, my voice barely a whisper, but his eyes were not on me, they were on Seth, he looked as though he was going to snap his head any minute from now.
“How dare you.” His words came out slow and forced, and I found myself holding in my own breath, as though afraid of breathing out.
His eyes suddenly flashed with that of his wolf, and I knew at that time that his wolf had taken over completely. I could see the veins popping out from his forehead, to show just how enraged he was.
“Uncle, I……….”
Damon moved in a terrifying speed, one that I didn’t even see coming, and in an instant, he had pinned Seth to the wall, lifting him off the ground with just one hand around his neck, while Seth began choaking.
My eyes widened in surprise, as a gasp escaped my lips. Just before I could speak, he pulled Seth out and then he hit him back on the wall with a terrifying speed and strength, almost carving his shape into the wall.
Seth growled painfully, his face turning white of lack of oxygen, and his eyes almost popping out of their sockets.
“Damon, stop, you are killing him.” I said before I could think. But Damon’s hands only tightened around him, choking and hitting him into the wall. My legs felt rooted to the spot, and my heart began pounding rhythmically.
Images of the night my parents were murdered came flooding my senses. I recalled my dad being lifted off the ground by the person who I didn’t see his face, and in an instant, he reaped my dad’s head off without seemingly any effort.
I recalled the fire, my parents’ blood and that of the Pack members who were murdered in cold blood, while I stayed hidden according to my mother’s instruction, stuck to a tree trunk and watching everything and everyone I had ever loved get taken away from me.
“Stop, please.” My heart was tightening with each violent thud, and the noise from those night ago kept flooding my ears, and I put my hands to my ears to stop the nose.
The noise and images kept crashing in, and then I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I let out a loud scream and rushed to Damon, pulling him away with all the strength I had left in me.
“Damon, stop, you are killing him.” I snapped, dragging his hands to free them from Seth who was almost motionless now. For the first time, his eyes snapped to mine, cold and dark, so strange and different from the loving eyes of my mate that I had been so accustomed to.
But he did let him, so sharply that Seth fell to the ground like a heap of rubbish, and then he began to gasp for air, retreating quickly while grabbing hold onto his neck, as though he was trying to save it from the torture that had already happened.
Damon’s gaze held mine in a way that made my breath hitch. I couldn’t look away from his piercing gaze, and they didn’t soften at all. He looked me up and down minutes after, and then he turned and walked away the same way he had entered, disappearing as though he was never there.
I didn’t wait to be asked to follow him, and I found myself quickly running after him with a speed I didn’t even know existed. I called out to him trying to get him to stop and listen to me, but he didn’t stop or look at me again.
We got back to the table where Alpha Morgan and Luna Julia were still seated, deeply rooted in a conversation without knowing that their son had almost died. I tried to appear calm, but suddenly, Damon stopped and took my hand.
I forgot how to breathe for a moment, I turned to look at him, hoping to see even a glimpse of the softness in his eyes. But he still was not looking at me, his gaze still looked strong and cold.
“Ah, you both are back. We were about to serve wine. Join us.” Alpha Morgan said with that crafty smile.
“No, we have a long trip tomorrow, I am afraid we have to bed early. Thank you for having us.” He surprisingly sounded calm, but if one listened carefully, the would have noticed the coldness in his voice.
He didn’t wait for the Alpha’s response and began to dragging me out with him. We both left, while I was almost running to meet up with his fast and long strides.
His hands holding mine where tight, and I could tell from how hardly his jaw was clenched that he was still very angry, he was just trying to keep it in.
The silence fell between us like a heavy cloth of darkness, and it was very uncomfortable and discomforting. I couldn’t bare it anymore, the mere thought of him being angry with me.
“Damon.” I called out, hoping he would talk to me at least.
He didn’t stop or turn, he kept walking dragging me with him.
“Damon, can we talk?”
“What? Are you disappointed that I walked in on you with him?” He asked coldly.
It took me a moment to analyze what he was saying, and when I did, I dug my feet into the ground, and forced my hand out of his hold, a frown etched on my features.
“I beg your pardon?”
He turned to look at me, his eyes cold and displeased. “You were so concerned that he was going to get hurt, you didn’t even consider how I will feel in the matter.”
I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out. I just stared at him as though he had suddenly developed two heads.
