Chapter 11

Chapter 11
Damon’s POV

I forced a smile to my face again, as I brought the glass to my lip, but my eyes remained on my brother’s face. I could tell clearly what was going through his mind, and for a second, I wondered if I should just leave now.

I changed the subject. “I heard you are getting married soon Seth, congratulations.” I told him, turning the attention back to their son.

I saw the look of hate and disgust flash through Seth’s face, the young lad just didn’t get his father’s skill of hiding his thoughts.

“Thank you, Uncle.” He replied coldly, his eyes returning to his food.

I chuckled slightly, “Your bride is Edina, right?” I asked him, and he looked at me with slightly titled brows.

“Yeah, everyone knows that.”

“I don’t think she is fit to be your bride, brother have you taken a closer look at the Edina of a girl, she is trouble.” I tried to keep my tone neutral.

His face darkened instantly and his eyes turned colder. “Uncle, I don’t think that is any of your business.” He replied.

I tilted my head slightly with a slight nod. “Well, that’s fair enough.”

Morgan choose that time to cut in, giving a thick forced laugh. “Damon, I did my research on the girl, she is from a good pack and she is alright. I wonder why you think she is not fit to be Luna?” He asked, and somehow I understood just what he was trying to do.

“Oh, don’t mind that. Why did you want me back brother?” He had been the one who send information to me to return to the Pack for something very important, but I was a bit shocked when I found out that he had turned my welcome ceremony into a mate hunt ceremony. I knew he had something up his sleeves, but knowing the kind of person he is, I couldn’t place my hand on what he wanted.

Morgan gave a tight laugh. “Brother, you should relax and enjoy your stay, I have missed you, that’s all. You have been away for too long, and even after your exile period ended, you didn’t return.” He responded with a short laugh.

I raised a brow at him, the smile on my face turning slightly stiff at the gentle reminder. They had been the ones who banished me for years, and now he was acting as though he cared.

“There was nothing to do here. Again, we’ve seen a couple of times during the past years, you certainly don’t miss me as much as you claim.” I didn’t hide my tone this time, I wanted him to notice that I knew who he was, and how he was like.

Morgan burst into a series of laughter, the harsh loud laughter cutting through the room and breaking the heavy silence which seemed to have descended upon us all, like a thick cold cloud.

“You haven’t changed at all Damon, you are still quick witted I can see. I know you can never believe that I missed you. Our relationship in the past hasn’t been so good, but I want us to be better. Why don’t we partner together? As brothers.” He said, his eyes boring into mine, as though he was trying to see through my very soul.

‘Ah that was it. He wanted me to partner with him over some lost course.’ I scoffed lightly and then leaned back into my seat, looking at him with a cold amused expression.

“Yeah right, you know you can tell me what you really want Morgan, I will see if I can help with that. We both know that you only said that because you wanted my help with something.” I told him, a small knowing smile that I was sure didn’t reach my eyes, plastered largely over my lips.

His smile faltered for a second, and then he looked at his wife briefly before he turned back to me. Now, his tone went from playful to serious.

“Some Pack had been threatening us for years now, I think they are making their move to attack our Pack and take over our territories.” He said seriously.

I raised a brow at him, staring at him with a small smirk. “Really, what then do you want, brother?”

He leaned into his seat, a smile appearing on his face again. “If we can just kill the Alpha of the Boodfang Pack, then the attack will end, and this has to be done discreetly.” He told me.

I looked questioning at him, a thought of rage rushing through me as I understood what he was trying to say, but I let him continue. “We?” I asked questioningly.

He nodded, “I want you to kill him for me, then the war can stop. Its just that easy.” He said seriously.

A cold bitter laugh tore through my lip, and a bitter expression flashed through my eyes. He was doing it again, trying to use me like he used to.

“What makes you think I will do that?” I asked coldly.

“We are brothers, right? That’s what family does for each other.” He replied, a croaked smile appearing on his face.

I scoffed, my hands balling into fists on my laps, but I kept my face straight. “Right, well, I hate to disappoint you. I can’t attack the Bloodfang Pack, they have an alliance with my Pack, and I can’t break that for any reason.” I told him, trying to keep my face neutral.

That was not true infact, but I wasn’t going to let him use me as a pawn in his sick games, and then I will be left to take the blame and pick up the pieces.

Morgan’s face turned cold. “You have to help me, there is no other person who can help me except you. You have all the power and wealth, and you can’t help me out just this once? Do you want to see me dead that badly?” He asked, trying to blackmail me.

I pushed back my seat and stood up. “As much as I want to help you brother, I am afraid my hands are tied in this matter. Perhaps you can ask help from your friends. Thank you for having me.” I told him and turned to leave, but he stood quickly and grabbed my hand stopping me.

For the first time since I arrived, I saw my brother’s real face. His façade was gone, and all remained was his raw hate and disgust look of an angry man as he glared at me.

“Is either you help me willingly, or I would make you.” He said, his eyes cold and dark.

I looked back at him, a frown etching my face. He was being serious, and I knew how perfect he executed his plans. But I was no longer the naïve young wolf of years before, I am different now.

“Alright, good night brother.”

But even as I left, I was deeply unsettled, I didn’t know what he was planning to do, but I knew not to underestimate Morgan. Not after all he had done.
