Chapter 136

Mia's POV

Since we got back from the mall, Adrian has been acting up. Little things got to him and I tried to be patient, but it only got worse.

Things were not going as great as they once were. He was letting whatever that man from the mall tell him get to his head. It was disheartening. He practically and almost knowingly disconnected himself from us and I did not like it one bit.

He did not want me to know about him, but I knew.

I had seen the man look at us with a very domineering attitude and I had tried to ignore it, but when Adrian had lied to me, only to go meet him a few seconds later, I knew something was up.

I had followed them, doing what I could do to make sure JR did not make a sound and draw attention to us.

I listened to each word that he said, my heart breaking even further with the sentences he made.

I had left, not able to hear more.

Then he came back empty handed, completely forgetting that he had told me he was headed to the men's section. I did not know what to say, so I did not say a word regarding the issue.

I wanted to confront him. Severally. But his demeanour was always not welcoming. He had this look that was becoming a part of him and he was changing to someone I almost did not recognise.

“Is something wrong?” I would always ask, but I always got a grunt in response.

The silent treatment or whatever this was, was not something I signed up for.

We were going to iron this out, whether he liked it or not. We had to.

If he went on to agree to what that visitor said, it meant something bad was on the way and we were going to soon get in the middle of the crossfire of whatever that is. I did not like the sign of that at all.

After everything that I have been through, the last thing that I wanted right now was to be entangled up between mafia groups.

“You would have to talk to me, sooner than later.” I called out one time. He still did not say anything.

He moved on to the sitting room, acting busy on his phone.

I rolled my eyes at his behaviour.

Here, I was, being worried about all of our future and there he sat looking so relaxed.

It made me angry.

“I saw him. The one you referred to as Andrew.” He looked up, surprised. I guess he did not think I was aware of my surroundings, but how stupid did he probably think I was?

After what I had been through, it was absolute foolishness to not take a note of my surroundings each time.

He did not say a thing.

“You seem surprised. I wonder why.” He still looked on.

“It is not what you think, Mia.” He proceeded to say.

“Well, except, it is exactly what I think it is. Because I saw you both. Tell me one thing, Adrian, are you seriously considering going back?”

He looked down at this point, like he was trying to avoid my eyes, like be knew his eyes said everything he was finding hard to say and he did not want that.

I shook my head at him, rather unknowingly, the tears trying to build up.

“You want to go back? After everything? This just looks to me like you have made up your mind already and for the love of God, I do not understand why you are still here .*

“I cannot believe you are saying this Mia. Of course I am here because I want to be.”

“You do? It just does not seem like it. You have to say the truth to yourself. You have enjoyed the time here with us. The life that comes with not being in the Mafia or any violent society for that matter.” I paused, taking a look at him. It seemed to me like he knew what words I was going to say next and it brine my heart the more.

“But it does not change the fact that you want so badly to be back there.” I finished.

“It is not the way you see it, Mia.” He said, voice breaking.

“Then talk to me!”

“You don't just leave me yo go ahead and make assumptions and come back later to berate me for making those assumptions when you are doing nothing to let me know if any happenings. That is just not fair. Not to me, not to anyone.”

“I just want to protect you and JR at all costs.”

“I do not see how this is protecting anyone.” I responded, with my arms folded against each other, while standing on one hip. “It is only serving you.”

I almost regretted saying that to him because I did not like the look I saw after.

He looked at me before making a move out of the room. “Go ahead and turn your back on me, on us.” He did this the best.

“Now, I know, you are just being dramatic.” He called out on his way out.

That stirred up something I did not know I had in me.

I could not believe he took somuch matters so likely. Did he not understand what was happening?

Could he not see that this was extremely dangerous for us?

How long were we going to go through this for?

I honestly did not know and I did not think I was going to be so patient to see it through.

At this point though, I found it difficult to make a decision. I loved this man and it kind of made the lines blurry.

Was it possible that we could all get past this and move on, like all of this never happened?

Or could we not get past this at all, because of the severity of Adrian's past?
