Chapter 41 Insubordinate Prey

A pair of feet that seemed to be nailed to the floor. Eyes that couldn't blink to avert their eyes, and a body that was frozen as if it had been in an ice cooler for a very long time.

The three humans who were still on their feet were processing information slowly as if their brains were in error at the moment. Their pupils widened as they saw the pair of hands of their companion draping themselves around the neck of an unknown-looking man.

So was that statement true?

Kenward turned around and walked away from them. The two subordinates behind Kenward each picked up items from their boss's lover. Rheana, who was still not fully awake, just let Callista's walking stick be taken from her.

Brian, who was about to approach his friends, was surprised when a large man in a formal tuxedo snatched Callista's sling bag from his grasp. When he was about to take it back, his hand was immediately held back by Chennie.

"Don't take it. The bag has returned to its owner again."

Chennie's explanation confused Brian even more. What was wrong with his friends who were suddenly silent? Then where was Callista?

***

Kenward left Callista alone once the car door was opened by a bodyguard. Callista's fingers interlocked. Her hands felt cold. She realized the fear that was currently enveloping her.

Callista looked straight to the side where Kenward had walked first into the mansion. Then her gaze shifted to the two bodyguards in the front seat. It was impossible to escape from here. Then what could she do?

Kenward stopped his steps. He turned around with a flat face. "You want to make me even angrier?"

Callista suddenly grabbed the pair of crutches next to her. Trying to move her feet quickly to catch up with Kenward. It was very dangerous for her if Kenward was really angry.

Kenward turned around, looking at Callista who was passing by the many maids who were paying their respects by bowing their backs. As soon as she entered the elevator, he pressed the button to close the box.

No one started a conversation. Callista repeatedly glanced at Kenward who kept his mouth shut. This situation scared her even more. She feared the anger and pain of a wound. Her body had already received enough scars.

"That was completely unintentional." Callista stopped her words for a moment to look at Kenward's expression. Nothing had changed, the face remained as flat as a wall.

"The thief came to pull my bag and I almost fell. Aric just wanted to help me."

Callista closed her eyes with a body that jumped in shock. Kenward suddenly pounded the elevator wall with his fist. Callista was trapped between Kenward's burly arms. She kept her eyes closed as Kenward suddenly brought his face closer to her.

"It turns out you still dare to mention the name of that strange man."

"He-he's just my best friend," Callista denied in a trembling tone.

With a single tug, the cloth covering her right arm up to her waist slipped off her body. Callista spontaneously covered her body which was partially exposed due to Kenward's actions. It made her fall down. She chose to cover herself rather than maintain her balance with the support stick.

Kenward placed his index finger under Callista's chin. He raised the face that was looking down.

"Do you still not understand? Everything on your body is mine, including your eyes. Do I have to cut out your pretty eyes so you can't see other men anymore?"

Callista swallowed her saliva with difficulty. The man in front of her never joked with his words. It was enough that a childhood accident had left her with a deformed leg, but now she was going to be left with a deformed eye? No, no, no. That's creepy!

Callista rubbed her palms in front of her face. "P-please forgive me, Kenward! I won't do it again."

Kenward smiled wryly at Callista's return to being a submissive girl. "It's already clearly engraved who the owner of your body is. Oh, do I have to give you another mark as a reminder?"

Her whole body was covered in cold sweat. She felt like her neck was being strangled by something. Even her cries had no sound. Only beads of tears kept dripping down her cheeks. This was very scary. Please take her away from this situation! Whoever it is.

One of Kenward's palms settled on Callista's cheek. Callista suddenly shook her head.

"I-I'm sorry, Kenward."

Kenward took out an object from his pants pocket. He pressed the handle of the object, and within seconds a very fierce-looking blade came out from its resting place.

That pair of beautiful eyes moved restlessly. Now the inside of her chest was filled with mixed feelings. She was having trouble breathing. Her hands pressed hard against her chest which felt extremely tight. The tears flowing from her eyelids became even heavier.

Callista turned her head, staring at the elevator that had opened. Seizing the opportunity, Callista hurriedly grabbed her pair of crutches and walked quickly out of the elevator. With every step she made, she still took the time to look back.

Kenward chuckled a little. Look at his prey trying to run away. It looks so adorable. Even though the girl was only doing something futile. Her deformed legs could only go as far as a baby's footsteps. Well, it was more fun to see the opponent weakened by itself.

Callista looked back to where Kenward was casually walking as if he didn't want to chase her. But still, the man looked frightening in her eyes.

"I have to escape. I don't want to die," Callista thought with a sob that wouldn't stop.

One of Kenward's eyebrows shot up. His girl had passed the door to the room. How could she have missed the golden cage he had prepared with all his heart?

Kenward stretched his legs wide as he ran a little. Callista, who saw that, had her heart jumping up and down as if it was about to burst out of her body.

"No way, I can't get caught," Callista thought as she shook her head. She had survived well so far. Wouldn't it be funny if she ended up with a knife stab? If that was the case, she would have died earlier on the first day Kenward kidnapped her.

Something was deliberately blocking her path. The frail body was made to float for a split second and fell forward. Her forehead slapped hard against the marble until it was torn off. The blood flowing from her forehead did not make Callista give up. She still tried to continue her efforts by dragging her body relying on arm strength.

Kenward smiled slightly. It turned out that his girl's fighting spirit was not easily shaken just because he kicked one of the support sticks. Then he had to go to the next level.

Kenward pulled Callista's hair roughly until the girl was made to look up. Both of Callista's hands tried to release Kenward's grip from her hair.

"I-it hurts ...." her beautiful eyelids were flooded with tears. "P-please let go! We can talk about it properly."

"There's nothing to talk about. I'm just meting out punishment for insubordinate prey."
