Chapter 99 The Final Truth
Chapter 99 The Final Truth
Evelyn sat on the edge of the bed, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. The room was dim, the only light coming from a small bedside lamp that cast long shadows on the walls.
Dominic stood across from her, his posture rigid, and his eyes filled with a mix of anger and concern.
"Why did you go to see Angelina?"
Dominic's voice was low but edged with frustration. He hadn't taken his eyes off her since she walked into the room, and his intense glare made her feel like she was under a spotlight.
Evelyn took a deep breath, trying to steady her emotions.
"I had to see her, Dominic. I had to know if she was okay."
"You had to know?"
Dominic's voice rose slightly, his irritation evident.
"Do you have any idea how dangerous that was? You didn't tell me anything, you just went behind my back!"
Evelyn's frown deepened, her own frustration bubbling to the surface.
"I didn't go behind your back to hurt you. I went because I needed to. She's my friend, Dominic. I couldn't just sit here and do nothing."
Dominic ran a hand through his hair, pacing the room.
"You don't understand, Evelyn. There are reasons I didn't want you to go. Reasons I can't explain right now."
Evelyn stood up, her eyes flashing with anger.
"Then explain them to me! Stop keeping me in the dark. I deserve to know what's going on!"
Dominic stopped pacing and turned to face her, his expression softening just slightly.
"It's not that simple. There are things you don't know, things that could put you in danger."
Evelyn's anger didn't waver.
"I'm already in danger, Dominic. We're all in danger. Keeping secrets from me isn't going to protect me. It just makes everything worse."
They stared at each other in silence, the tension in the room almost palpable. Finally, Dominic sighed and rubbed his temples.
"I just want to keep you safe, Evelyn. That's all I've ever wanted."
Evelyn's expression softened, but the frustration remained.
"I know. But I need to be part of this, too. We need to trust each other."
Dominic nodded slowly, his eyes locking onto hers.
“ I can’t. I want you safe and free from stress “
“ you promised to not hide anything from me. You promised to be with me “
Dominic took a deep breath and sat down on the bed next to her making Evelyn to look at him with her lovely love filled eyes.
"You're right. I'm sorry. I just... I can't lose you."
Evelyn stepped closer, reaching out to take his hand.
"And I can't lose anyone now. We need to face this together, Dominic. All of it."
He squeezed her hand, a silent acknowledgment of her words.
"Together,"
he agreed, his voice softening.
“ now tell me “
The tension in the room was thick, the silence stretching between them like an unspoken promise of something significant.
She could sense that Dominic was struggling with what he was about to say.
Finally, he turned to face her, his expression a mix of determination and regret.
"Evelyn, there's something you need to know about Angelina,"
he began, his voice steady but laced with an undercurrent of pain.
Evelyn's heart skipped a beat.
"What is it, Dominic?"
She asked, eager to know what he’d been hiding from her.
He took a deep breath, crossing the room to sit beside her on the bed.
"Angelina was involved in all of this with Mateo. She wasn't just a bystander or a victim. She was part of their plans, part of the betrayal."
Evelyn's eyes widened in shock, her mind racing to process his words.
"What are you saying? Angelina... she was with them?"
Dominic nodded slowly, his gaze fixed on her.
"Yes. She was involved with Mateo and the others. I couldn't kill her, Evelyn. Not because she was a woman, but because she had been there for me in the past. She had saved my life once. I owed her, even if she betrayed me."
Evelyn's mind spun, trying to reconcile the image of her friend with the truth Dominic was revealing.
"But why? Why would she do that?"
Dominic's expression grew more somber.
"I don't know all the reasons, but she was deeply entangled in their plans. Maybe she felt trapped, maybe she believed in what they were doing, or maybe she was just trying to survive. But it doesn't change the fact that she betrayed us."
Evelyn's eyes filled with tears, her heart aching with the betrayal.
"I can't believe it. She was my friend, Dominic. How could she do this to us?"
Dominic reached out, taking her hands in his.
"I know it's hard to understand. But sometimes people make choices that don't make sense to us. They get caught up in things, make mistakes... I couldn't kill her, but I couldn't let her go free, either."
Evelyn looked into his eyes, searching for answers.
"What happens now? What do we do about her?"
Dominic sighed, squeezing her hands gently.
"For now, we keep her in that hospital, under close watch. She can't hurt anyone while she's there. And we try to move forward, knowing the truth, no matter how painful it is."
Evelyn nodded, tears streaming down her face.
"I trusted her, Dominic. She was like family to me."
"I know,"
Dominic said softly, pulling her into his arms.
"But we have to be strong. We have to protect ourselves and the people we care about."
They were in the middle of a quiet moment in their room when Sia's voice called out from the living room, urgency threading through her tone.
Evelyn exchanged a curious glance with Dominic before they both stood and made their way downstairs.
As they entered the living room, they saw that everyone had gathered. Jack, Sam, Kylie, Caleb, and several others were seated, a palpable buzz of anticipation in the air.
Evelyn's eyes landed on Lilah, who was beaming, her happiness infectious. Evelyn couldn't help but smile back, though a hint of confusion lingered in her expression.
"What's going on?"
Evelyn asked, taking a seat next to Dominic.
Everyone settled down, the room quieting as they waited for the reason behind the gathering to be revealed.
Sia stood at the front, her eyes twinkling with excitement. Before she could speak, Lilah stood up, unable to contain her joy any longer.
"Lilah, what is it?"
Evelyn asked, her curiosity piqued.
Lilah took a deep breath, her eyes sparkling.
"Alex and I... we've decided to get married!"
A wave of gasps and murmurs swept through the room. Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise, and she glanced at Dominic, who seemed just as taken aback. Lilah continued, her smile widening.
"And not just that. We want to do it as soon as possible!"
The room erupted into cheers and congratulations. Evelyn stood, moving to embrace Lilah, her confusion now replaced by joy.
"That's wonderful, Lilah! I'm so happy for you both."
Dominic approached Alex, shaking his hand warmly.
"Congratulations, Alex. I didn't see this coming, but I'm glad for both of you."
As everyone offered their well-wishes, the atmosphere became electric with excitement. Plans and ideas for the upcoming wedding began to swirl around the room, everyone eager to contribute.
Evelyn hugged Lilah tightly, her heart swelling with happiness for her friend.
"I can't believe it! This is amazing news. When did you decide this?"
Lilah laughed, her cheeks flushed with excitement.
"We’ve been talking about it for a while, but we decided last night that there’s no reason to wait. We want to start our lives together now."
Evelyn nodded, tears of joy welling in her eyes.
"I'm so happy for you, Lilah. You both deserve all the happiness in the world."
As the group continued to celebrate, Evelyn felt a sense of warmth and unity among them. Despite the challenges and betrayals they had faced, moments like this reminded her of the strength of their bonds and the love they shared.
“ lets start the preparations right now ! “
The girls cheered and Dominic placed a gentle kiss on Evelyn’s head.
Even though his own family was ruined.
With Evelyn , he had a new family.
And he was happy.
