Chapter 97 A New Couple

Chapter 97 A New Couple

Two months had passed since that intimate night, and Evelyn had started feeling increasingly weak.

Most of her days were spent resting in Dominic’s apartment, surrounded by the warmth and support of her family.

Dominic rarely left her side, always attentive and concerned. Her sisters and friends would often visit, filling the space with laughter and love, trying to keep Evelyn's spirits high.

On one such day, as Evelyn reclined on the couch, a soft blanket draped over her, Dominic sat beside her, his hand gently rubbing her back.

Her father was in the kitchen, making tea, and Ethan was in the living room, engaged in a quiet conversation with Caleb.

The door to the apartment suddenly burst open with a loud bang, and Lilah came rushing in, tears streaming down her face.

The sound of her sobs shocked everyone, freezing them in place for a moment.

"Lilah!"

Evelyn exclaimed, struggling to sit up as Dominic helped her. Sam, who had been reading on a nearby chair, jumped up and hurried to her friend's side.

Lilah collapsed to her knees in front of Evelyn and Sam, her sobs wracking her body.

"He asked me out,"

she cried, her voice broken.

"Alex asked me out, and then he ditched me! I waited for hours, and he never showed up!"

Evelyn's heart ached for her friend. She reached out, taking Lilah's hand in hers.

"Oh, Lilah, I'm so sorry,"

she said softly, her own voice filled with emotion.

Sam wrapped an arm around Lilah's shoulders, trying to offer comfort.

"What happened? Did he say anything at all?"

Lilah shook her head, tears continuing to fall.

"No, nothing. I called and texted, but he didn't respond. I felt so humiliated, standing there alone for hours."

Evelyn exchanged a worried glance with Dominic, who looked equally concerned. He stood up and walked over to join the group, his presence solid and reassuring.

"Lilah, I'm so sorry this happened,"

Dominic said, his voice gentle but firm.

"Alex should never have treated you that way."

Lilah nodded, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.

"I just don't understand why he would do this. It hurt so much."

Evelyn leaned forward, her own fatigue momentarily forgotten in the face of her friend's pain.

"We're here for you, Lilah. You don't have to go through this alone."

“ i’ll ask him and if needed , i’d punish him “

The room fell into a heavy silence, the weight of Lilah's heartache mingling with Evelyn's own struggles. Dominic put a hand on Lilah's shoulder, squeezing it gently.

"We'll figure this out together. You deserve better than this."

Evelyn and Sam continued to comfort Lilah, their presence offering a lifeline in her moment of despair.

The support and love in the room created a fragile but vital bond, reminding them all of the importance of standing by each other in times of need.

The atmosphere in Dominic's apartment was heavy with tension. Lilah had finally fallen asleep on the couch, exhausted from crying.

Evelyn sat beside her, her hand resting protectively on her friend's shoulder, while Dominic paced the floor, his mind racing.

Suddenly, there was a sharp knock at the door. Dominic's eyes narrowed, and he moved to answer it.

Alex stood on the other side, his expression a mix of frustration and guilt.

Without waiting for an invitation, he stepped inside, his eyes immediately seeking out Dominic's.

"We need to talk,"

Alex said, his voice strained.

Dominic nodded curtly and led Alex to a quieter corner of the apartment, away from the others.

"You have a lot to explain,"

Dominic said, his voice low and controlled, but the anger was evident in his eyes.

"Lilah is devastated. How could you just leave her like that?"

Alex ran a hand through his hair, his own frustration bubbling over.

"I know, Dominic. I know I messed up. But it's not as simple as you think."

"Then make me understand," Dominic demanded, his voice rising slightly.

"Because right now, it looks like you just played with her feelings."

Alex took a deep breath, trying to steady himself.

"I wanted to be there for her. I wanted to go on that date more than anything. But when the time came, I... I got scared."

Dominic's brow furrowed in confusion.

"Scared? Of what?"

Alex's eyes met Dominic's, filled with a mix of fear and longing.

"Of our world. The life we lead, the constant danger. I don't want to pull Lilah into that. She deserves better than a life filled with fear and uncertainty."

Dominic's expression softened slightly, but his anger was still palpable.

"You think Lilah doesn't understand the risks? She knows who we are, what we do. She loves you despite all that."

Alex shook his head, his voice tinged with desperation.

"But that's just it. I don't want her to have to live with the constant threat hanging over her head. I can't stand the thought of something happening to her because of me."

Dominic took a step closer, his tone shifting from anger to a more measured intensity.

"Alex, you're not protecting her by pushing her away. You're hurting her. She was willing to take the risk because she loves you. But you left her standing there alone, wondering what she did wrong."

“ i did all this to Evelyn and i regret pushing her away. Despite everything that has ever happened to us, i regret pushing away Evelyn and I don’t want you to do the same to Lilah “

Alex's shoulders slumped, the weight of his actions pressing down on him.

"I just... I don't know how to balance it all. I don't want to lose her, but I don't want to put her in danger either."

Dominic sighed, placing a hand on Alex's shoulder.

"The only way to protect her is to be honest with her, to face these fears together. Running away solves nothing. It only creates more pain."

Alex nodded slowly, the truth of Dominic's words sinking in.

"You're right. I need to talk to her, to explain everything."

Dominic's grip tightened slightly, a gesture of reassurance.

"Do it soon, Alex. She deserves to know the truth. And you deserve a chance to make things right."

As they stood there, the weight of their conversation lingering in the air, Alex felt a renewed determination.

He would find a way to make things right with Lilah, to face their fears together. Because in their world, love was the one thing worth fighting for.

—————————————————

Alex found Lilah sitting alone in the apartment's cozy balcony, the cool night air ruffling her hair.

She looked up as he approached, her eyes red and puffy from crying. The sight of her so heartbroken nearly undid him, but he steeled himself, knowing this conversation needed to happen.

"Lilah,"

he began softly, but she cut him off with a sharp glare.

"Don't you 'Lilah' me,"

she snapped, standing up abruptly.

"How could you do that to me, Alex? How could you ask me out and then just leave me there, like I meant nothing to you?"

Alex felt a pang of guilt as he stepped closer.

"I'm so sorry, Lilah. I didn't mean to hurt you."

Her anger flared, and she pushed him away, her hands hitting his chest with surprising force.

"You didn't mean to? Do you have any idea how humiliating that was? How much it hurt to stand there waiting for you, thinking I did something wrong?"

Tears streamed down her face as she continued to hit him, her small fists pounding against his chest. Alex stood still, letting her take her anger out on him. He deserved it, and he knew it.

Finally, exhausted and sobbing, Lilah collapsed against him. Alex wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.

"I know I hurt you, and I'm so sorry,"

he whispered, his voice breaking.

"I was scared, Lilah. Scared of what our life could mean for you. But I love you, and I don't want to lose you."

She looked up at him, her eyes searching his.

"You really hurt me, Alex,"

she said, her voice trembling.

"I know,"

he said softly, leaning down to kiss her gently. The kiss was tender, filled with all the unspoken apologies and love he had for her.

Slowly, she began to kiss him back, her anger melting away in the warmth of his embrace.

When they finally pulled away, Alex rested his forehead against hers.

"I'm so sorry, Lilah. I'll do whatever it takes to make it right."

She nodded, her tears subsiding.

"Just don't ever do that to me again. I need to know that I can trust you."

"You can,"

he promised, holding her hand tightly.

"I swear."

Later, the couple joined everyone in the living room. The atmosphere was warm and lively, the earlier tension replaced with laughter and lighthearted conversation.

Evelyn, still looking a bit tired but smiling, was nestled beside Dominic, who kept a protective arm around her.

Kacy and Sam, both single and always up for some fun, decided to mock the couples.

"Look at these lovebirds,"

Sam said with a grin, gesturing to Alex and Lilah.

"All lovey-dovey after a dramatic reunion."

Kacy nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, makes us single folks look bad. Maybe we should stage our own romantic dramas, Sam."

Everyone laughed, the sound filling the room and lifting the spirits of all present.

Alex squeezed Lilah’s hand, grateful for the second chance and the support of their friends and family. Despite the
