Chapter 105 Happily Over
Chapter 105 Happily Over
Evelyn’s heart raced as she sent the text to Kaia, proposing a meeting. The reply came quickly: a simple agreement to meet at an abandoned building on the outskirts of the city.
It was a trap, she knew, but one they had meticulously planned for. This had to end once and for all.
In the living room, the atmosphere was tense but resolute. Dominic pulled Evelyn into a protective embrace, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead.
“We’re going to end this tonight,”
he whispered, his voice filled with determination and love.
“Stay safe, okay?”
Evelyn nodded, her resolve matching his. They moved to the nursery, where their twins slept peacefully. Evelyn and Dominic each kissed their sons, lingering for a moment, drawing strength from their innocence.
“Mommy and Daddy will be back soon,”
she whispered, her voice cracking slightly with emotion.
Stepping outside, they were joined by Alex, Caleb, Jack, and Sam. Sam gave Evelyn a reassuring smile, his presence a comforting reminder of their strong support network. Dominic began outlining the plan, his voice steady and authoritative.
“Evelyn and Sam, you’ll go in first. Kaia won’t suspect anything if it’s just you two. The rest of us will be positioned around the building, ready to move in when needed. Stay in contact at all times,”
he said, handing both Evelyn and Sam a small gun each for protection. Evelyn took the cold metal in her hand, the weight of it a sobering reminder of the danger they were about to face.
“Don’t hesitate to use this if you need to,”
Dominic added, his eyes locking onto Evelyn’s.
“Promise me you’ll be careful.”
“I promise,”
Evelyn said, her voice unwavering.
The drive to the abandoned building was silent, each person lost in their thoughts. The building loomed ahead, dark and foreboding.
They parked a distance away, hidden from view, and walked the rest of the way.
Dominic stopped Evelyn just before they reached the building, his hands on her shoulders.
“We’ve got this,”
he said, his voice filled with confidence.
“We’re ending this tonight.”
Evelyn nodded, taking a deep breath. She turned to Sam, who gave her a nod, signaling he was ready. Together, they approached the building, the eerie silence amplifying their footsteps.
They reached the entrance, a heavy, rusted door that creaked ominously as they pushed it open.
Inside, the air was musty and cold. They moved cautiously, each step deliberate. They reached the center of the large, empty space where Kaia was waiting, a sinister smile on her face.
“Well, well, if it isn’t Evelyn and her little friend,”
Kaia sneered.
“I hope you’re ready to listen.”
Evelyn stood tall, her fear replaced by determination.
“This ends tonight, Kaia. No more threats. No more games.”
Kaia’s smile widened, but before she could respond, the doors burst open as Dominic, Alex, Caleb, and Jack stormed in, weapons drawn. The element of surprise was on their side.
“Put your hands up, Kaia,”
Dominic commanded, his voice echoing through the empty building.
“It’s over.”
Kaia’s eyes darted around, realizing she was surrounded. She raised her hands slowly, the smugness fading from her expression.
Sam stepped forward, his gun trained on her, as Alex moved to restrain her.
Evelyn let out a shaky breath, relief washing over her. Dominic was by her side in an instant, wrapping her in a tight embrace.
“It’s over,”
he whispered, kissing the top of her head.
“ We’re safe now.”
“ not yet, Evelyn “
Kaia smirked and her smirk widened as she spoke.
“ find Angelina if you can. She’d die because of you “
The tension in the air was palpable as the group split up to search the building for Angelina. Evelyn, her heart pounding, led the way with Dominic close behind.
Every creak of the floorboards and distant echo sent a shiver down her spine. They moved quickly, checking every room, every shadow, desperate to find Angelina before it was too late.
But then, in a dimly lit corridor, Angelina stepped out from the shadows, her eyes red and puffy from crying, a gun trembling in her hands.
Evelyn froze, her breath catching in her throat. Dominic was a few steps behind, his eyes widening in alarm as he saw the weapon.
“Angelina, please,”
Evelyn said, her voice calm but urgent.
“Put the gun down. We can talk about this.”
Angelina shook her head violently, tears streaming down her face.
“You! This is all your fault! Mateo and Mathew are dead because of you!”
Evelyn’s heart ached at the pain in Angelina’s voice.
“No, Angelina. They got what they deserved for what they did. Please, you have to believe me.”
But before Evelyn could say more, Angelina’s grip on the gun tightened. Evelyn’s eyes widened in horror as the gunshot rang out, echoing through the empty building. She braced herself for the pain but felt nothing.
It was Dominic who fell to the ground, clutching his side, blood seeping through his fingers.
“No!”
Evelyn screamed, rushing to his side, her hands trembling as she tried to stop the bleeding.
Alex lunged at Angelina, but before he could reach her, she turned the gun on herself, the second shot piercing the air.
Angelina crumpled to the ground, her life ending in an instant.
Evelyn’s world seemed to shatter. She cradled Dominic in her arms, tears streaming down her face.
“Dominic, stay with me! Don’t you dare close your eyes. You hear me? If you die, I swear I’ll kill you myself.”
Dominic’s eyes fluttered open, a weak smile forming on his lips.
“I’m not going anywhere,”
he whispered, his voice strained.
“I promise.”
Alex knelt beside Angelina, checking for a pulse, but it was too late. He looked up, his expression grim.
“We need to get Dominic to a hospital. Now.”
Caleb and Jack rushed in, their faces pale with shock. Together, they helped lift Dominic, moving quickly but carefully.
Evelyn stayed close, her hand tightly holding his, her eyes never leaving his face.
As they carried Dominic out of the building, Evelyn’s mind was a whirlwind of emotions. Relief that they had found Angelina, heartbreak over her tragic end, and an overwhelming fear for Dominic’s life.
At the hospital, the doctors took over, wheeling Dominic into surgery. Evelyn sat in the waiting room, her hands covered in his blood, her body trembling with fear and exhaustion.
Her family and friends gathered around her, offering comfort and support.
Hours later, the doctor emerged, a reassuring smile on his face.
“He’s going to be okay. The bullet missed any vital organs, and he’s stable now.”
Evelyn let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding, tears of relief streaming down her face.
She thanked the doctor, her heart finally beginning to calm.
Entering Dominic’s room, she found him awake, a weak but genuine smile on his face.
“Told you I wasn’t going anywhere,”
he said, his voice soft but steady.
Evelyn leaned in, kissing his forehead gently.
“I’m holding you to that,”
she whispered, her heart full of gratitude and love. They had faced unimaginable danger, but they had come out stronger, their bond unbreakable. Together, they would heal and move forward, leaving the darkness behind.
