Chapter 127 Not Chasing Her

Chapter 127 Not Chasing Her
Mila

I had checked the front gate twelve times in the last hour.

Every time a car passed outside Levi's villa, my heart stopped for a second.

Waiting for Luca was becoming worse than facing him.

"Sorry, ma'am," came a male voice from the other end of the phone. "Our company doesn't have free guards at the moment."

This was the same hundredth reply from a hundred security companies.

"I'll pay you four times more than the other clients would," I said, my voice sounding more desperate than I intended.

He paused a little... a breathed, but just for a short moment, as he said, "Ma'am. No one will dare to take your offer even if you offered a hundred times more."

Before I could say anything else...

Tooot.

The other end of the call had already ended.

I looked at the screen as I realized it wasn't useful for searching for another security company.

Every legal security company in the country was compromised.

Some politely declined. Some suddenly unavailable, while others told me they already having a contract conflict.

It must be Luca who threatened them. I couldn't blame them. I myself fearing his reaction to the core.

Every passing minute I feel more nervous. Even the silent of Luca made me more nervous. Why he didn't even call? Threaten me? What was he up to?

He wasn't chasing me yet. He was simply closing every door.

This silence in Levi's villa felt wrong. I combed my hair as I tossed my phone to the side.

I stood beside the massive glass window overlooking the front garden.

Three days since I escaped. Three days since I left Luca chained to the bed.

If he made his first move, I would be relaxed, but this silnce....

My eyes drifted toward the gate and landed on Levi's car crossing the gate. On early morning he said he would go to bring his mother. He saw this was the best time to introduce us-Angelo and I-to her.

I remember his face last night when I answered his question, "I just needed some fresh air, and Ricardo bought this Villa recently, so I thought of spending some time here with horses."

He nodded. "So nice. Hope we can come back here someday and enjoy riding horses." Looking at my belly.

Did he suspect anything? He didn't even ask me why I asked him to come after midnight to pick me up.

He accepted the explanation too easily. Or maybe he didn't?

Maybe he was simply choosing not to push me.

As if he sensed my gaze, he raised his eyes and met with mine. He smiled and waved his hand. I waved back as I watched him holding his mother's arm and heading to the main door.

I extended my blue dress with my palms and fixed my hair to the side, waiting for them to enter the room.

"Hi, we're home," Levi said with a smile once they entered the room.

My eyes met with his mother. She didn't even try to hide her curious gaze as she sized me up and down.

I smiled. But she didn't.

I could sense her disapproval.

"Mom," Levi started with a big smile. "This is Mila Russetti."

I smiled. "Hello, Mrs. Marceau."

Her eyes paused on my stomach.

Then... around me, maybe searching for Angelo.

Then back to my face. "Son," she said. "Take me to my room. I'm tired

Levi's cheeks tinted. I could sense he was ashamed of his mother unreasonable behaivour.

I smiled to him and nodded.

I could not think of these small details right now. All I was thinking of that at any moment a black cars would appear outside the gate, then Luca would step out of one of them with his rerrifing smile.

A shiver crawled down my spine. I didn't think I would be facing him armless and all security companies in the whole country would decline me.

"Moooommy!" Angelo's voice made me jump.

I turned just in time to catch him launching himself into my arms.

I didn't hear him getting down stairs.

I laughed despite myself. "Careful."

"You always say careful," he complained.

"Because you never are."

He grinned proudly.

Levi had taken him shopping yesterday.

The result? My son looked like a miniature billionaire. Expensive sneakers, designer jacket, perfectly styled hair.

The little traitor even looked pleased with himself.

"Uncle Levi bought me ice cream," he said.

I raised a brow and asked, "One ice cream?"

"Two." He grinned

I narrowed my eyes.

Angelo immediately looked away. Guilty.

Definitely more than two.

I sighed. "Of course."

He giggled before suddenly growing thoughtful. "Mommy?"

"Hm?"

"Please don't be mad. I love Uncle Levi, but..."

I studied his face.

"Uncle Luca wasn't like you said... he isn't mean," he added. "I love him more."

My smile froze.

We sat on the sofa.

What do you mean?" I asked, trying to make my voice casual.

Angelo shrugged.

"When you stayed at Uncle Ricardo's villa before I followed you..."

My stomach tightened.

"He stayed with me." He continued.

I remained silent.

"He bought me toys." His smile grew wider as if remmbering something spacial.

Another twist in my chest.

"He taught me how to win in the car racing video game."

I remembered Ricardo's villa. The way Luca had looked at Angelo. Like he was something precious. Something irreplaceable.

But I also remembered that he wanted to announce him as his heir without even my approval.

'My Angelo lives in danger.'

He also read me stories." Angelo cut off my thoughts.

That surprised me. "Luca read stories?"

Angelo nodded enthusiastically. "Even when he was busy."

For some reason... That hurt more. Because it sounded genuine. Not manipulation or strategy.

Just...

A father trying.

I quickly pushed the thought away.

No.

Absolutely not.

I wasn't going to forget what Luca had done.

A few bedtime stories couldn't erase years of damage.

Suddenly...

The front door opened.

"There are my favorite people."

Angelo jumped from the sofa.

"Uncle...."
