Chapter 48: ♥ Broken Bonds
Dean’s
I sat rigidly by Stan’s bedside, my hands clenched so tight that my knuckles were completely white and pale. He was still utterly unconscious, his face pale and lifeless, his chest barely moving at all.
I couldn’t feel his wolf inside him anymore—only a painful, hollow ache where our fierce mate bond used to fiercely burn. Vex growled loudly and viciously in my mind, his violent rage an agonizing fire in my chest, screaming desperately for immediate blood vengeance. Noah, that damn Vengas, did this terrible thing to my mate. When I finally get my hands on him, I’ll personally rip him violently apart. I’ll aggressively make him wish he had never crossed Enzo, and definitely never crossed me. I will make absolutely sure I watch him bleed out and desperately beg for mercy before he dies. My heart twisted painfully, the dark, intense pull of my deep love for Stan nearly choking me with sorrow. He was my entire world, and now he was broken and empty because of that pathetic human boy.
I closed my eyes tightly for just a second as I desperately tried to calm down my building anger and just forget all about the threat and focus entirely on Stan. But the infuriating thought of that human Noah walking around free only made me exponentially more angry.
I growled low, my eyes locked on Stan’s pale, still face. Why did he go to Eric’s camp? Why didn’t he tell me his plan? If he had only just waited for me, I could have protected him completely. Vex snarled, his voice sharp and demanding in my mind—Noah’s blood, Dean. We urgently need it now. I nodded once, my jaw tight and set. Noah would definitely pay, no matter what extreme action it absolutely took to achieve it.
A sudden, sharp knock at the door quickly snapped me out of my thoughts. Mara, my pack secretary, tentatively poked her head in, her eyes nervous and worried. “Sir Dean,” she said, her voice soft and apologetic. “There’s a very important phone call for you right now. It’s marked as urgent. They strictly won’t take no for an answer from me.”
I glared fiercely at her, my voice low and sharp with impatience. “I’m busy right now,” I said, my eyes flicking back quickly to Stan’s face. “Tell them I truly don’t care who they think they are. I definitely don’t want to be violently disturbed. Not now, or ever. Make absolutely sure no one seriously disturbs me again for anything.”
She swallowed hard, her hands nervously twisting her shirt. “But, sir,” she said, her voice shaking with fear. “It’s the council calling you. They’re urgently asking about the pack meeting you held, about… Noah’s situation. They desperately want to know your official stance on this matter.”
“My stance?” I snapped back at her, immediately standing up, my voice suddenly rising to a shout. “You tell those old fools that my stance is that I’m keeping my mate alive and safe! Noah is already a dead man walking in my eyes, and I desperately don’t need any of their permission to handle this problem myself. Now quickly get out of my sight!”
She nodded rapidly, her face pale with terror, and swiftly scurried out, the door clicking shut behind her. I growled deep in my throat, pacing the room angrily, my immense frustration boiling over the edge. Vex was relentlessly clawing at my mind for release, his snarls getting louder and more insistent. Kill the Vengas, Dean. End his life now before it is too late.
I desperately wanted to go out and kill him, but Stan urgently needed me right here beside him. I moved closer again, my hand gently brushing his hair back from his forehead, my fingers trembling slightly. “I’ll violently make Noah pay for this, Stan,” I whispered fiercely, my voice cracking slightly with emotion, my lips gently grazing his forehead. “I solemnly swear on my own life, he’ll completely regret ever touching you with his power. Vengas or not, I will personally kill him and aggressively make absolutely sure Enzo also fully suffers the same way I have been suffering for you.”
A weak, small grip suddenly caught my wrist, and my heart instantly stopped beating in my chest. I turned my head quickly, my eyes wide with shock, and saw Stan’s eyes suddenly flutter open, his face still raspy and pale, his whole body trembling slightly. “Dean,” he whispered, his voice barely audible, his hand clutching tightly onto mine.
I rushed immediately to him, my hands firmly gripping his shoulders, my voice urgent and filled with relief. “Stan, you’re awake now!” I said loudly, my heart racing fast with excitement. “Are you truly okay, my love? Can you move at all? Please, talk to me right now!”
He groaned softly, his hand immediately flying to his head, his eyes looking hazy and confused. “Dean,” he said, his voice weak and fragile. “What exactly happened to me? Why do I feel so completely… empty inside? What did that boy do to me with his touch?”
I forced a strained smile onto my face, my chest tight with dread, trying desperately to keep him calm and steady. “You desperately need some rest now,” I said, my voice soft and comforting. “You’ve been out cold for a whole week, Stan. Noah… he seriously hurt you with his power. But you’re finally awake now. That’s all that truly matters right now.”
He shook his head weakly, his eyes instantly wide with alarm, his voice sharp with urgency. “Hurt me?” he said, his hand firmly gripping my arm tighter. “Is Noah really a true Vengas? Did he actually do this awful thing to me? Tell me the complete truth, Dean!”
I hesitated for a moment, my heart aching with the upcoming pain, not wanting to frighten him further. “Yes,” I said quietly, my voice low and honest. “He’s a Vengas, Stan. He fully took your inner power. That’s exactly why you intensely feel like this now.”
He instantly yanked his hand away from me, aggressively standing up on his shaky legs, his voice immediately rising to a painful shout. “Took my power?” he said, violently stumbling over to the mirror hanging on the wall. He stared hard at his own reflection, his eyes wide and completely wild with panic. “Why don’t I feel my wolf anymore, Dean? Why is it completely silent inside me? What exactly am I now without my wolf?”
I moved quickly to him, my voice soft and pleading, my hand resting gently on his shoulder. “Stan, please calmly listen to me,” I said, my heart completely breaking for him. “You’re still the same wonderful person. Your wolf’s just… quiet now, that is all. We’ll definitely fix this horrible situation.”
He spun around instantly, his eyes blazing with fury, his voice a full-blown shout. “Fix this?” he said hysterically, violently shoving my hand off his shoulder. “My entire wolf is permanently gone, Dean! I’m absolutely nothing now without it! Noah did this to me! I swear I’m going to personally kill him myself!”
I grabbed his arms tightly, my voice firm and authoritative. “Stop it right now,” I said, my eyes locked firmly on his frantic ones. “You just fully woke up, Stan. You’re extremely weak now. You desperately need to rest here. I’ll handle Noah and the Vengas problem. I’ll personally make him pay for this.”
He laughed, the sound bitter and sharp with pain, his eyes instantly wet with tears. “Handle him?” he said, his voice severely shaking. “Like you handled everything else in our lives? You honestly think I don’t know exactly what you’ve been secretly doing?”
I frowned deeply, stepping closer to him, my voice low and warning. “What exactly are you talking about now?” I said, my heart pounding with sudden dread. “I’m right here for you always, Stan. I’ve always been right here beside you.”
He pushed me back violently, his voice rising to an angry shout, his hands shaking with betrayal. “You absolutely weren’t here when I needed you!” he shouted, his eyes flashing with hurt. “You were far too busy fighting Enzo for the Alpha title, desperately chasing after all the Alpha power! If you had just been right here with me, I wouldn’t have ever gone to Eric for help! None of this horrible situation would have ever happened to me!”
