Chapter 297: Michael, I Beg You
Chapter 297: Michael, I Beg You
Evelyn thought Michael already knew she was carrying his child. She worried it would ruin things between him and Elysia—that's why he was so angry.
Instinctively, she opened her mouth to tell him: This baby has nothing to do with you. I'll raise it myself.
But before she could finish, she noticed Michael's face had turned frighteningly dark, his emotions clearly on the verge of exploding.
Panic seized her chest. She stumbled backward.
Michael closed in, step by step, backing her against the wall until she had nowhere left to go.
"Michael, I'm warning you one last time. This is my home. Leave. Now."
Evelyn forced herself to sound calm.
Michael's brow furrowed as he stared at her. "Evelyn, what are you trying to say? You think I'd hurt you? Is that really what you think of me?"
Yes.
Evelyn answered silently in her mind.
She knew better than to provoke Michael right now. She was pregnant—she couldn't afford to go head-to-head with him.
But Michael saw right through her. His expression turned even colder.
Evelyn couldn't hold it in anymore. She snapped, her voice breaking. "Aren't you exactly that kind of person? Michael, you've changed. The moment you used Lavern to threaten me, you stopped being the Michael I knew. If I could go back and choose again, I wish I'd never met you!"
"Wish you'd never met me?" Michael gave a bitter laugh. "Now that you're pregnant with Lavern's kid, you want to play house with him—is that it? If it weren't for Lavern, would you regret being with me? No. You'd still be clinging to me like you always do. You think I don't know what kind of person you are?"
His words dripped with contempt. But Evelyn only caught one thing.
"What did you just say? You think this baby is Lavern's?"
"You told me yourself that you slept with Lavern. Now you're pregnant. If it's not his, then whose is it—mine?" Michael's jaw clenched.
Evelyn had never wanted Michael to know about the pregnancy. She was terrified he'd either take the baby from her or force her to get rid of it.
But hearing him say this now—anger surged through her like a tidal wave.
She could accept Michael doubting her. But she couldn't accept him doubting this child.
Evelyn gritted her teeth, her voice steady and fierce. "Michael, listen to me carefully. This baby is not Lavern's. It's yours. I never slept with Lavern."
Michael froze.
He wanted to believe her. He really did. But then the image of the pregnancy report Elysia had shown him flashed through his mind.
He sneered at Evelyn.
"Evelyn, do you think I'm an idiot? That I'll believe whatever you say? Let me tell you something—I don't believe a single word coming out of your mouth right now. Don't think you can make up lies just to get me to let Lavern go. I'm warning you, Evelyn—lying to me like this won't save Lavern. It'll only make things worse for him."
"You—"
Evelyn was shaking with rage.
But Michael was clearly furious, and she had no choice but to swallow her anger and try to reason with him. "Michael, what will it take for you to let Lavern go?"
"Are you begging me?" Michael asked.
Humiliation burned in Evelyn's chest. Still, she bit her lip and nodded. "Michael, I'm begging you."
Michael's smile was mocking. "Evelyn, that's not how you beg."
"Then how do you want me to beg?" Her voice trembled with despair.
Michael's gaze dropped to her chest.
During their struggle, the top of her shirt had come undone. From where he stood, he could see the curve of her cleavage, the pale swell of her breasts.
A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. "When you beg, you should be humble. And you should offer me something I actually want. Like your body."
"Get out!"
Evelyn's fury exploded. She shoved him hard. "Leave! Now! I don't want to see you for one more second!"
Michael gave a cold laugh. He grabbed her shoulders and yanked her into his arms, pinning her there as he crushed his mouth against hers.
"You—"
Evelyn thrashed against him. Michael only tightened his grip, as if he wanted to snap every bone in her body.
Left with no other choice, Evelyn found her opening and bit down hard on his lip.
Bright red blood bloomed between their mouths. Michael didn't let go. If anything, he kissed her harder.
Still kissing her, he lifted her off the ground and carried her to the couch, pressing her down beneath him.
His hand slipped under her clothes, groping her roughly.
"Let me go! Let go of me! Michael, my stomach—my stomach hurts again."
Michael's body went rigid. His expression was still dark, but he pulled away and released her.
No matter how angry he was, he didn't want to hurt the baby inside her—not like this.
Evelyn scrambled upright, frantically tugging at her clothes, desperate to cover herself.
The sight set Michael off again. He lunged forward and tore her shirt open with both hands.
"What are you hiding? What part of your body haven't I seen? I know exactly where every mole on your thighs is. What do you have to hide from me? Or are you saving yourself for Lavern now?"
"We're divorced. You have no right to see my body anymore."
"We've slept together since the divorce, haven't we? I've seen your body plenty of times."
"That was before—when I wanted to. I don't want to anymore. Michael, I'm warning you—if you do this without my consent, it's rape. I'll call the police!"
Michael stared at her, his teeth clenched. Then he let out a harsh laugh. "Evelyn, you're really something."
With that, he turned and walked out.
Staring at the empty living room, at her torn clothes, thinking of what just happened and the fragile life growing inside her, Evelyn broke down and sobbed.
Michael stormed out of Haven Sky Residences.
He didn't notice the figure watching from the shadows nearby.
Elysia stood in the corner, observing everything.
From the look on Michael's face, she knew they'd fought.
She tilted her head up toward the eighth-floor window, a satisfied smile curling her lips.
Evelyn, did you really think getting pregnant with Michael's baby would change anything?
Dream on.
No matter what happens, Michael will never be yours.
He'll only ever be mine.
Back in her apartment, Evelyn took a moment to calm herself. Just to be safe, she swallowed another pill to protect the pregnancy.
That's when her phone rang. It was Delilah.
"Evelyn, I'm okay!"
Delilah's voice came through, frantic.
But then a man's voice cut in. "You're Evelyn, right? Consider this a warning. If you don't wise up, next time won't just be trashing your friend's place."
