Chapter 295: Miscarriage Prevention Medicine... Is Evelyn Pregnant?
Evelyn struggled out of Michael's embrace. "I don't need your fake sympathy."
With that, she gritted her teeth and left on her own.
Evelyn didn't go to the hospital. Instead, she returned to Haven Sky Residences.
Her stomach still ached terribly. After checking her own pulse, she knew—she'd stressed the pregnancy again.
Given her condition, a hospital couldn't do much anyway. Better to make her own herbal remedy—it would be more effective.
Evelyn sank onto the sofa, breathing hard, and immediately called her second senior, Dwayne.
Evelyn had three seniors in total. Lavern was the third.
"Dwayne, Michael kidnapped Lavern. You need to find a way to get him out, fast."
Dwayne sounded almost amused. "Michael's that capable? He actually managed to catch Lavern? So you and Michael aren't just divorced—things are really ugly between you now?"
Evelyn sighed helplessly. "I was blind before. From now on, I'll never give that man another ounce of my heart."
"You should've done that ages ago. I've told you before—men are no good." Dwayne didn't seem to mind that he'd just insulted himself in the process.
His voice came through the phone again. "You don't sound right. You're not sick, are you?"
"Just tired lately. I'll be fine after some rest. Dwayne, please go rescue Lavern."
Evelyn urged him on.
Though Lavern was skilled enough that even if Michael's people had captured him, he wouldn't be in immediate danger, there was always that slim chance.
If Lavern lost his life because of her, she'd never forgive herself.
After hanging up with Dwayne, Evelyn called her assistant and asked him to bring over the ingredients she needed for the pregnancy-preservation remedy.
After leaving Eldon's gravesite, Michael headed straight to the Johnson Group for work.
Elysia, meanwhile, went to Haven Sky Residences.
She wasn't going to rest in Michael's unit—she was looking for Evelyn.
She stepped into the elevator just as Evelyn's assistant came running from down the hall, calling out, "Wait! Hold the door!"
Elysia watched as the assistant rushed in, then pulled out his phone to call Evelyn. "Dr. S, I've got all the ingredients you requested."
The assistant listed them one by one to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything.
After getting confirmation, he said with a smile, "Dr. S, I'm in the elevator now. I'll bring everything up right away."
Elysia frowned in confusion.
Is this person delivering herbs to Evelyn?
But what does Evelyn need them for?
What are these herbs even used for?
The elevator quickly reached the eighth floor. Instead of getting out, Elysia pressed the button for the first floor and rode back down.
On the way down, she pulled out her phone and searched for information about those herbs. She got an answer.
Still uncertain, she stepped out of the elevator and called a doctor she knew.
"...What are these herbs used for?"
The doctor sounded surprised. "Ms. Thomas, are you pregnant? Those are all herbs for preserving a pregnancy—specifically for abdominal pain caused by emotional distress."
Elysia's expression grew grave.
Pregnancy-preservation herbs... Is Evelyn pregnant?
Whose child is she carrying?
Michael's?
She knew Michael and Evelyn had slept together, but...
She'd never imagined Evelyn would actually get pregnant with Michael's child.
After all, Evelyn had been so careful before—she'd even ended up in the hospital after having an allergic reaction to emergency contraception.
Elysia rushed back to the Thomas Villa as fast as she could.
Seeing her pale face, Scarlett was deeply concerned.
"Elysia, what's wrong? Why do you look so pale? Is your heart acting up again? I'll take you to the hospital right now."
Elysia shook her head.
Scarlett looked at her worriedly. "Then what is it? Elysia, your hands are freezing. What happened?"
"Mom," Elysia said, her voice a mix of anger and grievance as she looked at Scarlett, "Evelyn's pregnant. She's carrying Michael's baby."
Scarlett shot up from the sofa, her face changing color.
"What did you say? Is Evelyn pregnant? With Michael's child? That Michael... it's one thing to fool around with Evelyn, but how could he get her pregnant?"
"It must be Evelyn who deliberately seduced Michael. This was all planned—she wanted to get pregnant with his child so she could steal him away from me." Elysia's tone was certain.
Scarlett still seemed doubtful. "Is this really true? I know Michael's had some entanglement with Evelyn, but he's not that irresponsible."
"Mom, I'm certain. I saw someone deliver pregnancy herbs to Evelyn with my own eyes. This morning, you saw it too—Evelyn got so upset her stomach hurt. That must have been when she stressed the pregnancy, which is why she needed those herbs."
"Mom, what am I going to do? This is Michael's first child. He's bound to care about it. What if Michael gets back together with Evelyn because of this baby? What will I do?"
Scarlett's expression turned serious.
She knew all too well that unless a man was adamantly against having children, most men placed great importance on their first child.
And with a child connecting them, the parents would inevitably be drawn closer together, creating the foundation for deeper feelings to develop.
That was exactly why she'd been so eager for Elysia to marry Michael quickly and have his child as soon as possible.
But none of them had anticipated that before Elysia could even marry Michael, Evelyn would get pregnant with his child first.
Scarlett gripped Elysia's hand. "Elysia, don't panic. We both need to calm down first, then figure out what to do."
"Mom, I want to stay calm, but how can I? Evelyn's pregnant. I worked so hard to earn Michael's trust, and now Evelyn... Even without a child, Evelyn's methods were already formidable—she could pull Michael's attention away whenever she wanted. Now that she has a baby... Mom, I can't lose Michael."
Scarlett grasped Elysia's shoulders. "From what happened this morning, it's clear Michael doesn't know about Evelyn's pregnancy yet. And for now, Evelyn doesn't seem to plan on telling him. Right now, besides you, does anyone else know she's pregnant?"
"I don't think so. If a lot of people knew, word would've reached Michael by now." Elysia thought for a moment before answering.
"In that case..." Scarlett's eyes filled with determination. "We'll insist that the child Evelyn's carrying belongs to Lavern."
