Alarmed!
Alarmed!
It was close to noon when Darren finally arrived at the cabin. He wasn't wearing anything as he'd ran all the way through the wilderness in his lycan form to cover more grounds.
When he got to the porch, he could sense a strange scent that didn't belong to Kyley and he instantly became alarmed.
" Kyley..." He rushed in, not minding that the door was unlocked.
" Kyley!" Darren called out loud for her just as he stepped into the cabin. However, he caught sight of how disheveled everywhere was just when he arrived at the living room, and he couldn't help but frown and run upstairs to look for Kyley.
His heart shook frivolously, panic and fear subsumed his being as several thoughts crossed his mind.
" Kyley?" He called as he checked the rooms and the bathroom but she was just nowhere to be found in the house.
Darren's heart pounded and thrummed in his ears as he ran down the stairs to look for her in the kitchen. He couldn't sense her presence in there before but he still thought to check.
However, he suddenly paused on his dash when he saw the dried bloodstains on the floor. His heart dulled considerably in hurt, as he was unwilling to believe they were Kyley's.
However, the scent couldn't convey anything less true.
As he walked into the kitchen with reddened eyes that watered in hurt while still in a daze, Darren stumbled over the several crashed furnitures on the floor.
Darren had long realized that Kyley was missing, and thus, he only searched for clues as to her whereabouts.
Suddenly, his gaze fell on the sheet of white paper on the counter top with a cell phone placed above it.
Darren hurriedly moved to pick up the cellphone and the paper, the latter being his own letter that he'd written to Kyley before he left for Lunaria. He was certain that Kyley had seen the letter, and he knew the phone didn't belong to Kyley but to someone else.
The assailant's perhaps...?
Darren still in a panicky daze clicked on the phone. The phone turned on and on the screen, was a message. He furrowed his brows in confusion and quickly read through the content of the message.
However,as Darren did, his gaze first widened in shock before turning into a regretful glare full of rage.
He rushed out with the cellphone in hand, following the scent of the person whom he could tell had just been in the cabin recently, doing just as the message instructed.
...
In the city of Portico, hunter Logan's apartment...
Prrr!
The scar-faced hunter who sat in his armchair bent forward in his seat to pick up the phone that rang out loud on the table before him.
" Hello sir?" He said just as he picked the call and placed the phone to his ear, his voice deep and serious just like his stone-cold face.
Jake who had just gone to use the gents returned into the room looking puzzled at the hunter who received his call calmly.
The past few weeks they've had nothing to do but snoop around the city to see if there weren't any likely situations like that of the abandoned warehouse looming.
Luckily, there hasn't been any and the city had been peaceful all these while.
The protests on eliminating werewolves slowly died out and the Nightclaw pack still remained.
As he walked towards the bed to sit down, Jake calmly listened in on the hunter's call. But, he could barely make out what was being discussed even with his super hearing ability.
" Alright sir, Roger that!" The hunter said after a while and ended the call.
" Is there an update?" Jake asked in a casual tone afterwards. Hearing how respectful the cold hunter was on the phone, Jake couldn't help but wonder if it was a call from the higher-ups in the Hunters' association.
' That's quite strange, since they've only always sent text messages. Why put a phone call through this time?' Jake thought to himself. He couldn't but feel that something was definitely going on. He had a hunch about this.
The hunter didn't say anything to reject or confirm Jake's doubts. He just rose from the chair and went to the small drawer in the corner of the room to grab his revolver.
Jake watched all of this calmly, thinking they were about to go out.
" You're free to go," just then, Jake stared at the hunter as though he'd heard the funniest trick his mind could play on him.
For the longest while, he didn't seem to believe that the hunter had actually said those words, not until the latter half-turned and said seriously, " I said, you're free to leave."
Seeing the hunter say to him as he loaded his revolver without a single hint of him messing around, Jake couldn't help but express shock.
Hunter Logan really meant what he'd just said!
" R-really?" Still surprised at this sudden turn of events, Jake couldn't help but ask.
However, the hunter only raised his revolver before tucking it in his waist holster after loading it and calmly nodded his head.
Jake was still just as surprised even after this. He was first joyous and glad, finally relieved that he was free. But then, his expression froze when a thought crossed his mind.
' A call... Suddenly says I'm free... Revolver ... with... silver bullets!' Jake's heart jumped in scare at this thought.
Was this the part where hunter Logan pretends to have set him free only to hunt him down in the end?
" Quick advice though..." Amidst his racing thoughts, Jake heard hunter Logan say. He couldn't help but move his gaze to look at the hunter.
" Leave this city. We're hunting down all werewolves tonight..."
The hunter said, leaving Jake staring with a widened gaze in disbelief. The latter's lips trembled and his teeth clattered in fear.
It really was the apocalypse!
" Hah! Honestly, I shouldn't be telling you any of this. But, you might have changed my mind about werewolves, Jake..." Hunter Logan turned around and said with a wry smile. He looked towards a distant spot as if recollecting some memories. His gaze was bitter, yet stern.
This was the first time that Jake would see this crazed hunter smile or express such emotions. He couldn't help but be slightly taken aback.
" However, it's too late for me now." Hunter Logan sighed and turned to face Jake. " Go now before I change my mind!" he regained his cold and staid demeanor and said, causing Jake to shudder in fear.
Jake didn't stand around any longer to find out just what the hunter was going to do as he instantly shot up from the bed and rushed out of the door.
The hunter stared at Jake's back as he left and shook his head pitifully.
He turned around and proceeded towards the closet in the corner. Then, he pushed the closet to the side, revealing a small storage where he kept his werewolf hunting tools...
Tonight, was the night of purgatory!
As Jake ran out of the apartment to the streets, the latter didn't even say goodbye to the hunter as he ran off, fearing that the hunter would soon follow right behind him with his silver-bullet revolver.
The hunter had said pretty much everything that he needed to say to him after all, so what was the use of farewell notes?
As Jake ran through the streets, blending in with the crowd and took different routes and detours, there was only a thought in his mind.
It was about what hunter Logan had said about the Hunters' association going all out to hunt down every other werewolf in the city tonight.
' if that's true, then I really need to grab José and Erik and get the heck out of this city!'
Jake thought to himself as he ran towards Yoldes' palm alarmingly. Fear and worry weighed on him.
However he didn't forget to look behind him as he left for Yoldes palm, still uncertain that the hunter wasn't following behind him.
Jake still didn't trust the loads of cock and bull story that the hunter had told him before setting him free.
