Misunderstanding
Chapter 84
A few days before Alucard's departure, we had already settled on the setup after I handed him out the jewelry he needed for his diplomatic mission. I let Alucard rummage through the guest list while I was busy handling some clients in the jewelry shop.
"Tell our artisans they need to settle the polishing date for Countess Urson's jewelry, Expert," I ordered my assistant as we went to my study room. "Then..." I paused when I opened the door and saw Alucard holding a parchment and reading it before I turned to Expert. "That's all. And bring some refreshments for us."
He bowed his head. "Your wish is my command, Your Serene Grace."
Nodding, I watched him leave before turning my attention to Alucard, who was creasing his forehead. "Since when did you arrive, pudding?" I asked and approached him to give him a peck on his lips. "What are you reading..." I couldn't help but pause when I looked at the parchment he was looking at. My stomach flipped as I gulped when I realized he was reading a letter. "Oh..."
It was then Alucard looked up at me with that forehead creasing. "Simone is arriving this week, huh?" Then, he scoffed. "And he is arriving tomorrow?!"
I glanced at the parchment he was holding where I received a letter from Simone. Just as Alucard said, Simone declared that he would arrive this week.
"Yes," I replied cautiously, noticing Alucard's face slightly darkened. "I sent him an invitation, remember?"
Alucard said nothing but looked at the letter with a huge frown. Heaving a sigh, I knew that right there and then, even though he didn't tell me, he was bothered by Simone's presence.
"Pudding..." I sat on his lap and wrapped my arms around his neck. "I was not really planning to invite him over to our pups' birthday party, but they specifically requested for his presence..."
During that time, Alucard and I were sorting out the guest list when our pups told us I should invite Simone. I worried for Alucard since he didn't expect Simone to be brought up to this.
I flattered Alucard's forehead when he was still not saying anything. "Pudding..." I was worried since his lips were pursed into a thin line.
"Why didn't you inform me of his arrival tomorrow?" he inquired, his gaze daring to meet mine. "It seems this letter has been open for quite some time..."
My heart froze momentarily as I returned my gaze to the letter. I glanced back to Alucard, who awaited my confirmation, before I sighed and nodded.
"Yes... I received them yesterday." I finally admitted defeat, not liking where this was going.
"And you did not tell me when I was in your mansion last night." Alucard didn't ask but to conclude.
I noticed the accusation and annoyance in his tone. Looking at him, I realized that this would be the first time we would have to argue since we became mates again.
"It slipped into my mind last night, and I was tired from my work and the arrangements for the birthday party." My words spat out truthfulness. I didn't get to think of that letter when it arrived, and Alucard needed to know that. "My apologies, pudding..."
He just shook his head and didn't say a word again. His annoyance was palpable, and I could tell he wanted me to get out of his lap.
I secretly gnashed my teeth before I got up and went to take some documents with me. "It seems like you are not buying my words. Suit yourself then." I focused on the documents and started to feel annoyed when he did not believe me.
"Is this how you will act when you are the wrong here, Faustina?" Gone was the sweetness in his tone as his gaze pierced my direction.
I looked at him in disbelief. "I told you that I forgot about it..." I creased my forehead when he was still frowning. "Then, sorry!" I exclaimed and shunned him away.
He scoffed. "Right, not being sincere enough."
I pinched the bridge of my nose before going to the couch and sat there while I was not saying anything. This irritation I felt for Alucard... It was going to be the first time that I would experience it.
"So be it. It's not my problem anymore." I glared in his direction. "You are welcome to leave. Can you see that I am also working right now?"
Alucard smirked. He looked furious, as evident in his forest-green eyes, before looking down at the letter. "Don't tell me he will stay in the Bellwood Estate?"
I wanted to lash out, but I was trying to compose myself, not letting the emotions blind me. "No." My voice was firm this time. "I will not do anything that will upset you, Alucard."
"But the letter...?"
I was near my boiling point when he didn't drop that part. I almost shook my head.
"I told you that I forgot about it..." Breathe in, breathe out, Faustina. "My apologies for that. I really forgot about it." This time, my tone was gentler than before.
He was not already happy when I invited him to the birthday party. Not only that, but our pups specifically mentioned that he should be invited. It struck his ego as his father because Alucard knew that Simone was with me during my times in the Waevalon Kingdom.
"I remember I have something to do."
My insides clenched when Alucard stood up and ignored my apologies. I pursed my lips into a thin line when he approached me and kissed me on my forehead. My eyes widened in surprise at his gesture before I looked up to see the same distant expression in his eyes.
I was speechless after that and didn't get to notice that he disappeared from my sight. But at the same time, I felt this turmoil raging inside me when I was left alone and sighed as I thought about what happened to us earlier.
The following day arrived, and Alucard and I still hadn't managed to resolve our argument from the previous day. However, Alucard was here in the mansion for some reason.
"Yay! Daddy will keep visiting us until he leaves for the diplomatic mission!" Lumiere cheered while he was on his father's shoulders.
I couldn't help smiling to see him so happy being there while Luciana and Liutrich were surrounding their father, beaming at their father.
"Daddy and I will play with my dolls!" Luciana exclaimed.
"Daddy, are you going to miss us when you leave?" Liutrich asked, fluttering his eyelids.
"Of course! I will miss my baby pups, so I have to spend my time with all of you," Alucard said before looking at me. "And, of course, I am going to miss Mommy."
I felt my stomach somersaulted from his words. Even though we were still not on good terms, Alucard was as sweet as ever.
"I will miss you, too, Daddy." And, of course, who was I not to even tell my feelings? Just by thinking that Alucard would be far away from me made me remember those times that I had to endure those years that he was not with me during and after my pregnancy.
I thought that Alucard wouldn't react to my words, but I caught his lips drawing up a small smile before his attention poured to our pups. That left me in despair because I knew that he still didn't want to reconcile with me.
I hoped we would fix our issue before leaving, but I guess Alucard had no plans. But there was no way that we wouldn't be able to fix this without talking. I knew that he was still mad, and there were some ways to coax my man.
"Pudding—"
"Your Serene Grace."
My head turned to the butler, who had just arrived after knocking. "What is it?" I wanted to lash out since I wanted to speak with my pudding right now, but there was an interruption, and I wanted to settle it as soon as possible.
My butler bowed his head first before speaking his intention. "His Highness, Grand Prince Simone has arrived, Your Serene Grace," he announced, making my heart leaped out of my ribcage.
