No mercy from heaven
Maddox’s P.O.V.
“Uncle is a heart patient, he needs immediate medical attention.”
Come on!
Give me a break!
Stuck in the whirlwind of lies, I was taken aback by the sudden change in scenario. Alpha Harrison’s out of the world acting was admirable.
One punch, and he laid down on the floor like a potato sack, unable to move, I was about to kick him up when Hayden whispered in my ear.
“Maddox, it seems serious. Focus!”
As Magnus and Hayden were holding me back, I postponed my kicking and freed myself, focusing on the voices around me. In addition to Kitten’s panicked shouts and some annoying voices, the threaded heartbeat of Alpha Harrison caught my attention. I couldn’t believe my ears for a moment.
The man, who fought like a warrior two decades ago, was hurt by a single punch, it was indeed the biggest disaster of the year. How was it even possible that his wolf didn’t heal him?
“Perhaps, men become weaker after castration.”
Zeth clicked his tongue, grinning at Alpha Harrison’s condition. I scolded him for his recklessness.
“It’s your fault, Zeth. We have decided to explain the situation peacefully.
Now, see what you have done.”
We argued all the way to the hospital, Zeth didn’t accept his mistake at all, shifting the blame on others.
“Are you blind, Maddox?
Didn’t you see that that bastard Prince tried to claim our Erasthai?
And that oldie, he had no words to deny our report, so he attacked us. But still, you are accusing me wrongly.”
Zeth wasn’t wrong as Alpha Harrison initiated physical violence, we were perfectly peaceful before his idiotic attack. However, this reasoning lost its meaning when I saw my Kitten crying her eyes out at the hospital.
“Please, dad!
Open your eyes. Stay with me.”
Holding Alpha Harrison’s hand, she followed the gurney all the way to the I.C.U, Prince Edith was her.
“The doctors will do their best to treat uncle, Shyla. Please don’t cry.
Pray to the goddess that …”
His Oscar-winning acting to look like a concerned family member swelled fury inside me. I could feel my blood almost boiling in my veins as he placed his hand on Kitten’s shoulder.
Well, that was it for tonight’s show!
I stepped forward and slapped his hand away from my Erasthai.
“Alpha Harrison is a strong man with the stamina of a skilled commando. He will surely walk out of his room in no time.”
I tried to comfort my Kitten, but that bastard Prince spewed out more nonsense.
“Uncle has a serious heart disease. Even a bit of emotional stress could trigger his chest pain.
And you ...
You hit him so hard that he coughed up blood. It’s not an ordinary battle wound, King Maddox.”
Heart disease and Werewolves?
Was he out of his mind?
During my long stay on the Earth, I had never come across a werewolf who suffered human-like diseases. And in which universe, the battle wounds were ordinary and harmless?
Two absurdities in a single sentence fucked up my brain, I shot back at him.
“Enough with your lies, Prince Edith!
Alpha Harrison is the strongest Fenrir Alpha I have ever seen in my life. His wolf’s strength is beyond your lousy brain.
So, shut up. Stop scaring my Kitten.”
Wrapping my arm around my Kitten’s shoulders, I offered her my handkerchief to wipe her face. It was obvious that she was worrying for nothing.
However, Kitten slowly raised her head and spoke, looking dead into my eyes.
“If anything happens to my dad, I will make you pay for it, King Maddox!”
What?
My head blew away after hearing Kitten’s threat, she trusted that bastard Prince Edith’s words over mine. I assured her that her dad would be fine, but the sudden beeping rang like ominous bells in my mind, a nurse shouted.
“Code blue!”
Damn it!
More doctors and nurses rushed towards the I.C.U to attend Alpha Harrison, raising small hair on my nape. A sliver of dread touched my spine as Kitten cried out.
“Please save my dad. I beg you!”
Within seconds, the situation went out of control, leaving me at the mercy of fate. I had to pray for my enemy’s life as a last resort.
“Please bless that werewolf Alpha, God! His death will cause me huge problems.”
It was a well saying that when your bad time jeopardized your life, nothing could stop bad luck from troubling you more!
And funnily enough, that was the case for me. My prayers, doctors’ expertise, and even my Kitten tears couldn’t garner Heaven’s mercy. A tired doctor came out of the I.C.U and removed his mask to say.
“I am sorry, Princess Shyla. Alpha Harrison is no more.”
“No!”
Kitten’s blood-curdling shrieks resonated in the hallway, cutting through my heart. I was able to feel her anguish as she ran inside to hug her father’s lifeless body.
Her grief-stricken condition brought tears to my eyes, refreshing my wounds. In the past, I also felt completely broken and powerless while burying dead bodies of my close friends and family members like Davina. My little sister’s funeral was the hardest moment for me. It was always hard to say goodbye to your loved ones.
The apple of my eye’s pale face flashed before my eyes as I saw Alpha Harrison, intensifying my pain. Enemy or not, death was an unavoidable truth. It was against humanity to hold grudges after someone’s death.
So, I forgave Alpha Harrison for his years of evil schemes and disturbance, and closed his eyes, praying for his eternal peace. But my sincere gestures of mourning were interpreted wrongly, Kitten and that bastard Prince yelled at me together.
“Don’t touch him!”
Edith swiftly pushed me away from the hospital bed.
“I should applaud for your heartlessness, monster!
Firstly, you killed my uncle, and now you are behaving all noble to clear your name. What do you think of us?”
What was he saying?
I didn’t kill Alpha Harrison!
My attempts to explain the truth were fruitless, the response to this incident was way harsher than I expected. Kitten slashed her wrist and rubbed it over her forehead, her crimson red eyes shot fiery daggers at me as she vowed.
“I, Alpha Shyla Harrison, will avenge my father’s death. I will kill my dad’s attacker with my own hands.”
The regal glory of a true Fenrir Alpha pricked goosebumps over my skin as I gasped, terrified by my Kitten’s fury. I was very well aware that she was freaky AF, but she would ever direct her rage towards me, it was uncalled-for.
Sensing the seriousness of the calamity, I came up with a plan in a split second.
“It’s your right to punish the killer, Kitten. But please don’t take any rash decisions.
Let me arrange for Alpha Harrison’s funeral first, then you can hold me accountable in the full court trial.
I am more than pleased to take part in the investigation.”
But my efforts for peace went straight to hell as Shyla shooed me away.
“Get the hell out my pack, King Maddox. I don’t wanna see your face.
We are done!”
Zeth whimpered as even Ash refused to answer his calls, mourning for her dad’s death. On the other hand, that clever bastard gathered all the Alphas of the party here and threatened me.
“You have only five minutes to leave without any bloodshed, King Maddox!
Otherwise, heads will roll.”
“Bring it on, losers!”
Surrounded by Werewolf Alphas, Zeth bared his claws for a bloody battle. A bunch of puny wolves stood no chance against my lethal claws. I was certain that the rolling heads mentioned by the bastard Prince would be of his Alphas, turning the hospital into a bloodied battleground.
However, it wasn’t a wise mood!
Although my hands were itching for a good killing, I refrained myself from doing so. With my army of ten thousand lycans, it would be a matter of seconds to end the so-called Royal pack of wolves. But it would be insensitive, given that my Erasthai had just lost her father.
As I said earlier, death didn’t discriminate between friends of foes, it was my duty to be courteous at my enemy’s death. So, respecting my Kitten’s wish was the only option left for me.
I expressed my heartfelt condolences and asked my Erasthai.
“Call me if you need anything, Kitten.”
…
The ride back to my pack was like injuring my soul by walking on broken glasses in bare feet. It was impossible to leave my Kitten when she needed me the most. As mates, we were supposed to be together in every thick and thin, but her family’s indulgence in our peaceful lives had turned our world upside down.
The foundation of our home was shaking like a leaf in a storm, on the verge of breaking into countless pieces, I was simply devastated by this cruelness of heaven.
Despite all my war crimes, I was still an Alpha lycan, bestowed upon as a King for God Daragor rule over the world. There should be some extra favor for me in difficult times.
But no!
It appeared that I was on my own, dealing with my messed-up life. It was heart-rending that I couldn’t get a chance to hug my Kitten after missing her crazily for three days.
This deep yearning of my soul fueled my courage, showing me a path even after reaching at dead end. So, I decided to ask one more favor from Hayden.
“Meet me at the conference hall. We need to discuss a significant matter …”
