Maddox's message
Shyla’s P.O.V.
“Kitten, you are so cruel!”
Maddox’s slurry tone instantly caught my attention, he must have been intoxicated while recording this audio. The sound of glass shattering followed by a growl swiftly confirmed my suspicion as he uttered nonsense.
“I can sense that you have feelings for Prince Edith, Kitten. You have changed your heart. You don’t love me anymore.
But I will never let you go. You are mine!”
That drunkard Maddox sent me an audio message after writing plenty of text message, trying to prove his point that I was the main problem.
So stubborn!
I heard that audio patiently until he started cursing the entire Werewolf race. He paused for a moment, and swore, trembling my heart.
“It was my biggest mistake to let that puny Harrison live. I left him to set an example for my enemies. But after two decades, he struck back, destroying my world.
I will not spare you this time, rascal. You are so dead!”
I felt a steel wire around my heart as the feeling of losing my father cut through my soul. It was already so difficult to see him. The mere notion of losing him panicked me.
After my years of service, Alpha Raymond agreed to investigate my mom’s whereabouts. However, I couldn’t find her as she died due to excessive torture. More precisely, the master of the breeder camp killed her because of her inability to bear another child.
After all, no one was interested in a barren slave!
The wound of her being killed innocent was still fresh in my heart, I had planned to convict that master right after my coronation as Queen. And now Maddox threatened to kill my dad, I couldn’t bear it anymore.
The emptiness of my heart turned into a relentless hammer pounding into my head, running me out of patience. I threw my cell phone on the pillow and cried out.
“Why, Maddox?
Why are you doing this to me?”
I was just a lowly omega, heart broken by her Alpha husband’s betrayal. My life was perfectly surrounded by gargantuan grief, I had accepted my fate as an unfortunate omega as well.
But that King waltzed into my life, turning it into an emotional rollercoaster. Instead of spoiling me with love like an ordinary mate, he challenged my competitive side, bringing out my best version of me.
I was more than happy to be his omega Erasthai!
But after filling my heart with countless dreams of love and affection, he backed out, leaving me alone in the darkness once again. I was that same Shyla, standing on the dark road, unsure whether to continue walking forward or not.
Grabbing my head with both hands, I sobbed, complaining in my heart.
“I thought that you will feel my absence, thinking like a mate for once.
But no!
The King in you doesn’t care about me at all!”
Behind the façade of a loving and caring partner, Maddox was just an Alpha lycan, worried about rivalries and killing. He wasn’t ready to accept his mistake, despite messing up my life. His no remorse mode deeply disappointed me. So, I took a rash decision to lessen the injury of my unfulfilled expectations.
“If you don’t care about me, I will not bother you anymore, Maddox. You can go to hell with your throne!”
…
It was a tedious task for me to sleep after Maddox’s message, but I tried to take a rest. The challenges of my new life at the Palace were all set to test my patience with the next sunrise.
Starting from square zero wasn’t easy for me, but I had to drag my tired body for my dad’s sake, whose love was now awakened by my mate’s threats.
Dad was waiting for me when I joined him in the dining hall. He even stood up and left his seat for me.
“My days to sitting on this seat are over, my princess. Now, you are the Alpha King of the Werewolves.
You deserve this!”
I could see envy written in bold letters on Prince Edith’s face, he must be feeling left out because of being a half-breed. His mom was an outsider, a wolf of some other bloodline, which snatched his right to be an Alpha.
But given by his services for the Werewolves, he was more deserving than me. So, I offered him generously.
“Please come and sit on this seat, Prince Edith!”
I didn’t know which part of my offer was ambiguous. Everyone in the hall, including my dad, cast meaningful gazes on us. He even commented as Edith rose from his spot proudly.
“It’s great to see that you are well-versed in the women’s code of conduct, Shyla.
A woman is supposed to respect her mate, following his command whether she is an Alpha or Queen.
Good job! I am delighted to witness your submission.”
Me and a submissive woman?
ROFL!
Honestly speaking, it was the first good joke I had heard in a long time. I couldn’t help but smile brightly. My dad was so naïve to think that a volcano named Shyla was an obedient soul. In reality, I was a ticking bomb which could blast at any moment.
However, it was a harmless assumption, so I played along and bowed my head to hide my grin. Taking part in this family drama for three days wasn’t so hard.
As Maddox had vowed to bring his army to attack after this deadline, I decided to leave the Palace before that. I couldn’t allow more bloodshed on my watch.
The breakfast went on smoothly despite my initial acting, although I had expected more remarks on the non-existent exemplary promise mate couple.
Then Prince Edith took me out for sightseeing.
“I will be your tour guide today, Shyla. Your pack mates will love to see you.”
The doctors had advised me to take Marcel in the sun, so I asked Mrs. Lockwood to come with us. I wasn’t ready to risk my child’s safety at that Palace. It was a new place, so I needed to be cautious all the time.
Prince Edith didn’t mind Marcel’s presence and kept on speaking like a radio as usual.
“We will go to the children’s park, orphanage, and then the opening ceremony of a shopping mall.
Your personal assistant is at your service, Shyla.”
The huskiness of his tone infuriated Mrs. Lockwood, her lycan was offended by another man around her Queen. I held her hand to calm her and replied to Prince Edith.
“Perhaps you forgot it, but I am not interested in indulging in official stuff, Prince.
So, please spare me from the official visits and drive towards the breeder camp or slave market. I would like to meet the servant class of the pack.”
Prince Edith was taken aback by my perspective, he gasped in response.
“Having good relationships with wealthy families is beneficial for Alpha family, Shyla. We should focus on meeting prominent businessmen in the pack.
What’s the use of wasting time on the poor? They aren’t going to benefit you.”
How could I tell that rich Alpha that I was also a poor omega, once deprived of basic necessities. That was why I wanted to see the condition of my fellows to confirm whether my dad had learned his lesson or not.
Maddox followed the rules of war and sold my mom to a breeder camp, it was his Alpha mentality. But if my dad really regretted my mom’s loss, he must have ended this barbaric practice in the pack.
And guess what?
It was the case over here, as Prince Edith told me.
“We have an orphanage for kids in our pack, Shyla. There is no slave market here.”
Overjoyed by this news, I thanked him, we reached the orphanage to meet the little wolves. The happy faces of kids welcomed me there as I came out of the car and walked towards the main building.
Edith spoke gleefully, “We have provided the best care for them, Princess. You will be pleased to know that our kids go to school and enjoy a normal life in the pack.”
Hearing such details thrilled me for more adventures, I insisted on touring the entire building. The principal guided us inside, flexing satisfactory cleanliness and facilities for orphans.
I was keenly observing the classrooms when my eyes caught an unbelievable sight, the long stick of the broom refreshed my memories of the past.
As if in a trance, I stepped forward to confirm whether it was the same thing I suspected or not …
