Chapter 85 Know thy mate
Melissa sat on a reclining chair, her left leg stretched out as Candice carefully clipped off her nails. She'd been doing it herself when her maids had walked in and bullied her into giving it up. Richard had advised her to just relax and let them work. It had been three days since she was shot and she'd not had so much as a day off since then.
She had to check on all her council members, one after the other. Some of them were threatened while for some, she just tried to check on their health. She'd fought the Infernal again on the phone. That insufferable man had said she'd staged the whole thing, and she accused him of trying to assassinate her and he claimed he wished he had but he wouldn't spend an ounce of resource on a weakling like her.
Coupled with all those and the fact that someone had killed the entire assassins they'd caught alive in their prisons. They'd all received a gunshot to the head. Conveniently, all the cameras were down at that time.
Everything had just happened all at once and it made Melissa paranoid and tired. Not to mention the fact that she'd been thinking of confronting Lena all this while and getting past the insecurity holding her down. She was really afraid of doing that now, considering she had been receiving a lot of bad news, she didn't want to add to it with another emotional trauma.
"Ooooh," Candice said, as Vanessa clicked on a small mp3 that was on her bedside. She'd brought it along when they were coming. For some reason, they knew she was a bit depressed, and they came to help her out. She was indeed very happy to see them. Normally she saw them every day, but they'd only come to work and leave.
"You like it?" Vanessa asked Candice as the normally reserved girl was shaking her head vigorously in sync with the tune.
"DuneCity is my favorite band," she said. DuneCity was one of their more popular band groups.
"I don't like them much," Melissa replied but this particular song is enjoyable as she hummed to the lyrics. "Vanessa, how are you enjoying your new house?" She asked her.
"Oh, it has a very large pillar at its center I always knock my head against when I am not awake," she said with a giggle as she sat beside her, taking her hand, she wanted to help smoothen her fingernails. "But other than that, it is lovely, thank you very much," she said
Melissa felt a hint of regret come from her when she said thank you and she looked at her. It was as if she was hiding something from her, but Melissa didn't worry about that. She wanted to relax so much that she didn't care about what was happening. "Is that why you sported a face cap yesterday?" she asked teasingly.
"My forehead was bulging," she said with a chuckle.
The song switched and all of them screamed, it was a popular song that talked about the journey of two friends. The trio started to sing along with the song, and after a while, Melissa stood up and started twisting around, dancing to the song. Her two maids joined her and Vanessa's dancing sucked so much that the three of them burst into laughter.
After they stopped dancing, a sigh came from behind them and they all turned to Richard who had his palm on his face shaking his head vigorously at the nonsense he'd just witnessed.
"Since when have you been there?" Melissa asked.
"I never left," he replied in a succinct manner.
"You are creepy, Sir Richard," Candice said in fear.
"Lo...ki," he said. "My name is Richard not SirRichard," he said, purposely acting like he didn't know what sir meant.
"Right, Sir Richard," Candice replied and Richard exhaled, completely fed up.
Melissa smiled watching them all talk, something about it all made her happy, like she had a family of her own. She needed to go meet Lena and talk to her. She decided she would do it this evening, she had nothing to lose, even if her mate was unfavorable, she could still choose whomever she wanted.
The morning went by and Melissa spent it with Vanessa, Candice, and Richard, playing different card games and Richard whooping them in all those games. He did it in a manner that angered the three she-wolves. He didn't say anything when he beat them, and they'd all insulted him for being too cocky and proud.
Currently, it was evening and Melissa was at the wheel, driving with Beatrice to a dance club. She'd promised her she would take her out alone when they were done. Richard had taken his car and followed them at a safe distance, he couldn't risk them going out alone.
"I have never been to a club or a party before," Beatrice said. She was completely dolled up and she'd worn a black leather jacket which looked good on her. She also had her eyelashes darkened so she'd look the part.
"You will enjoy it," Melissa replied, she was in the same attire. "I am just hoping no one recognizes us," she added.
Melissa drove them into the garage of the dance club and they both got out of the car. They entered the place and the whole place was lit. The DJ had spotted them coming in and he screamed. "This one's for the two beautiful ladies that just walked in," then he changed the tone of the song and Melissa began to dance.
Beatrice on the other hand was just looking here and there.
"Hey Sis," Melissa looked at her. "Eyes on me," she said.
Beatrice nodded and focused on her and Melissa placed her hand on her shoulder. "It is hard for anyone to recognize us, it is dark and we are practically disguised, so enjoy," Melissa advised.
"Not that, I just find this very demeaning," Beatrice said.
"I thought you might say that," she said and Melissa called in someone from her phone.
After a while, she told Beatrice to turn around and she was face to face with Hashar, Melissa had called him beforehand.
Beatrice blushed completely as the wolf held her and waved Melissa goodbye dragging Beatrice into the crowd the woman didn't even complain, she waved at Melissa happily.
After they left, Melissa left the dance floor and entered the toilet. She opened the door and sat in one of them, giving herself the privacy she needed. She wanted to meet Lena now. She wasn't postponing anymore, today was the day she would know her mate.
