Chapter 55 Heavy heart
Melissa stood in the hospital lobby, her heart pounding in her chest. She had made the decision to trust Sam and escape, but just as she was about to call out Richard's name, her eyes caught sight of a group of guards from the werewolf pack searching for her.
Fear gripped Melissa as she realized that Richard might find out she was a werewolf. She couldn't risk exposing her secret and putting herself in danger. Without a second thought, she turned and ran in the opposite direction, hoping to evade the guards and find a safe place to hide.
As Melissa sprinted through the hospital corridors, her mind raced with thoughts of what would happen if Richard discovered her true identity. Would he reject her? Would he turn her over to the pack? The uncertainty fueled her fear, pushing her to run faster.
But Melissa's escape was short-lived. As she rounded a corner, she collided with a hospital staff member, causing both of them to stumble and fall to the ground. Melissa's heart sank as she realized she had been caught.
The staff member, a nurse, looked at Melissa with concern. "Are you okay?" she asked, helping Melissa to her feet.
Melissa nodded, her breath coming in ragged gasps. "I... I need to hide," she managed to say, her voice trembling.
The nurse's eyes widened in understanding. "Follow me," she said, leading Melissa to a nearby supply closet. "You can hide in here until it's safe."
Grateful for the nurse's help, Melissa ducked into the supply closet and closed the door behind her. She leaned against the wall, trying to steady her breathing and calm her racing heart.
As she waited in the darkness, Melissa's mind raced with thoughts of what she should do next. She couldn't stay in the hospital forever, but she also couldn't risk going back out into the open where the guards might still be searching for her.
Just as she was about to come up with a plan, the closet door swung open, flooding the small space with light. Melissa squinted, trying to make out the figure standing in the doorway.
"Melissa?" a familiar voice called out.
It was Richard.
Melissa's heart skipped a beat as she realized that Richard had found her. She couldn't bear the thought of him discovering her secret and rejecting her. Without thinking, she pushed past Richard and ran down the hallway, desperate to escape.
"Melissa, wait!" Richard called after her, but she didn't stop.
Melissa sprinted through the hospital, her mind filled with a mix of fear and regret. She had let her fear drive her away from Richard, the one person who had shown her kindness and acceptance.
But Melissa's escape was short-lived once again. As she turned a corner, she found herself face to face with a dead end. There was nowhere left to run.
Panic set in as Melissa realized she was trapped. She turned around, expecting to see Richard and the guards closing in on her. But instead, she was met with a surprising sight.
Melissa's breath hitched as she took in the sight before her. Instead of Richard and the guards, there was a swirling portal, shimmering with an otherworldly light. The portal seemed to beckon her, offering a way out of her current predicament.
Curiosity mingled with caution as Melissa approached the portal. She hesitated, weighing her options. On one hand, stepping through the portal could potentially lead her to safety, away from the danger she faced in the human world. On the other hand, it could also bring her back to the werewolf realm, a place filled with painful memories and heartache.
As Melissa considered her choices, the memories of her time in the werewolf realm flooded her mind. The constant fear, the loss of control, and the emotional turmoil she had endured were still fresh in her memory. She couldn't bear to relive that pain again.
With a resolute sigh, Melissa made up her mind. She turned away from the portal, choosing to stay in the human world and face the consequences of her actions. She couldn't go back to the werewolf realm; she needed to find a way to resolve her problems here.
As Melissa walked back through the hospital corridors, a mix of relief and apprehension washed over her. She had narrowly escaped being caught by Richard and the guards, but she knew she couldn't let her guard down. She needed to stay vigilant and find a way to protect herself.
Returning to the supply closet where the nurse had helped her hide, Melissa took a moment to collect her thoughts. She knew she couldn't stay in the hospital indefinitely,
Melissa's mind raced as she thought about her next move. She couldn't stay in the hospital any longer; it was only a matter of time before Richard or the guards found her. She needed to find a safe place to regroup and come up with a plan.
Just as Melissa was about to step out of the supply closet, a knock echoed through the small space. Her heart skipped a beat. She cautiously approached the door, bracing herself for the worst.
When she opened the door, her worst fears were realized. Standing before her were the guards from the werewolf realm, their expressions stern and determined. There was no way to escape now.
"Melissa," one of the guards spoke, his voice cold and commanding. "It's time to return to the werewolf realm. The Alpha demands your presence."
Melissa's heart sank. She had hoped to avoid going back to the werewolf realm, but it seemed inevitable now. She knew she had no choice but to comply.
Silently, Melissa followed the guards as they led her through the hospital corridors. Her mind raced with thoughts of what awaited her in the werewolf realm. Would she be able to protect herself? Could she find a way to escape once she was there?
As they reached the exit of the hospital, Melissa's eyes darted around, searching for any possible escape route. But the guards were too vigilant, their grip on her arms too tight. There was no way to break free.
With a heavy heart, Melissa stepped outside, the cool night air brushing against her skin. She couldn't help but feel a sense of resignation. She had tried to resist, but it seemed fate had other plans for her.
