Chapter 154 Unparalleled.
Melissa's aura subsided as she realized they'd been wrong either that or Jensen was a god walking the earth either way, there wasn't anything they would be getting out of Jensen anymore. She exhaled and nodded towards the glass that was now reflecting the room. She felt the familiar darkness dissolve around her and she got sucked into it. She appeared back in her previous position afterwards.
She stood up and signaled to Richard that they should leave and they were about to when they heard a metal door slam loudly and they instinctively turned back. The inquisitor walked out of the interrogation room angrily. “What was that!?" He asked, walking towards Melissa with a frown face, and a finger pointing towards her..
Before he would reach her Richard stepped in between them and he halted instinctively. Even though the inquisition had a high level of power they held it was common sense not to act rashly towards something that can easily end your life. “What was what!?" Melissa asked, touching Richard so he'd step aside. The demon wolf complied and Melissa stepped forward. “What was what?" She asked, her face frowned in enquiry but a taint of indignation was laced on it.
“I was working and you disrupted my work," he said.
“Sure, my bad. You can continue working," she said and started to turn away.
“You do know I can charge you if I want, " he said.
Ever since she was a kid she'd hated the Inquisition and the pride they held. There was one particular Inquisitor who'd bullied her a bit as akp kid. A female inquisitor who had gotten to the post on inheritance sort of. She made Melissa's life hell and let her know there was nothing she could do, until of course Richard stepped in and reported her to Dreykov.
Though the inquisitor was punished duly, the entire event didn't really let Melissa like Inquisitor's very much. She wasn't a fan of their unbridled power. Now that another inquisitor was standing up to her and letting her know that they had the ability to bully her, it sparked something in Melissa's head. She had been reborn for age and reason, she knew that but it doesn't mean that she couldn't at least make time for a petty revenge.
Normally she was just gonna go and not even think about what he'd said as she was indeed in the wrong for the interruption, but today she needed to stick her foot down some people's throat.
“What did you say? “ Melissa asked, turning back. At that moment Jacob, who'd gone for a little briefing, entered again.
"I said, I can charge you for what you just did. You obstructed the work of an inquisitor. It is a capital offense, even for the glorified Luna of Dunham, “ he said.
“And I can order your death right now for treason; under the accounts of disrespect and threat,” Melissa replied with a smile.
He scoffed as Richard flicked out his claws. “I can't blame you, everything was given to you on a platter of silver. You think all these are big jokes, don't you?"
“That is no way to speak to Luna," Jacob's voice thundered from behind.
“And what makes you think you can look up to an Inquisitor?" He asked and Jacob sulked a bit.
“Look around you," Melissa said. " I can kill you with my own hands and no one will notice you are gone. All you inquisitors know how to do is flex power when it is convenient,” she said angrily. " Where were all these muscles during the Aerkash Heist, during great grandfather's rule? “ She looked at him and rolled her eyes. " I will let this go once, you speak to me this way next time and I will rip your trachea from your neck, and nothing will happen afterwards,” she asserted and then walked out of the station, leaving the inquisitor in a limbo.
The sentinels in the room matched with her, guiding her along with Richard till they exited the building. There were others placed at her car from onset, guarding it like a hawk. Melissa turned to Jacob and smiled at him. “Thank you," she told him.
He nodded and stared at her for a while. “You are more graceful than they said, and you are also fiercer," he said offhandedly.
Melissa raised her eyes. “Thank you, I guess," she said.
“Sorry… I didn't mean that," he said.
Melissa looked at him again. " You know we are kind of like family right?" She said,
“Joyce spoke about you, yes," he nodded and smiled a bit. " She said you were the only one that understood her eccentric nature, you and old man Hale that is. “
“Are you guys mates?" Melissa asked.
“No, my mate died, and she didn't like her mate… “ he said. " She chose me over him,"
Melissa nodded. “Love is above any other concept," she said.
Jacob nodded and Melissa spread her arms, he was surprised when she hugged him. “We will see you later," she smiled.
She glanced at the guards around her car, they still made sure the entire area was secured as they hopped into the car where Hance and Arya were waiting quietly. The two had decided that Melissa and Richard were left alone. They had things to sort out between themselves so they wanted peace and quiet.
Richard entered the driver's seat as they drove away from the building. “Do you really think it is okay to go to an inquisitor like that?" He asked as he drove.
“Are you scared?" Melissa asked with a frowned face
“No. I just… they can make an already difficult situation harder," he said, exhaling. He obviously didn't want to discuss this in front of others.
Melissa understood him, and even she knew she had no real plan if the Inquisitor wanted to react against her, she just knew she wasn't gonna be told what to do anymore. She exhaled and relaxed her head on the car seat as the car sped off.
