Chapter 153 The inquisition.
Melissa sat quietly beside Richard and Jacob , her entire focus on what was going on behind the glass. She needed to see this one through. She took a sip from the coffee on the table unconsciously, just as a motor reaction as she had been stuck to the same position for minutes.
They were currently about twenty minutes drive away from the castle at the Sentinel headquarters of Dunham. The boy who'd edited the tapes; Jensen was currently being interrogated by an officer of the detective division of the Sentinel Bureau.
The boy, Melissa couldn't still believe he was the one that did it , he had this very scrawny looking and frail disposition that made it feel as if he couldn't hurt a fly, but to think someone like him was actually involve with the oracle and had tampered with national evidence was not something anyone would think of.
The glass normally was a sound proof one and sound cannot pass through, but Melissa had requested that she wanted to hear all of their conversations. So they provided a small set of ear pods for her that she can use to listen to every sound coming out of the room.
The Sentinels were surprised at first when she walked into their office, all of them went silent the moment she entered and they'd all fallen in position and had given her a salutary honor. And as it would seem Jacob told him she probably was the only Luna that'd ever stepped into the Sentinel's building on her own volition. Most have been dragged in due to embezzlement issues.
She took another sip of the coffee and this time took a bite from the biscuits laid before her. Other than her Richard and Jacob there were seven armed sentinels in the room, masked from head to toe, just there to ensure her protection. She glanced forward as the interrogation continued.
“Your name is Jensen right?" The inquisitor continued, nudging his spectacles with his thumb. He smiled at the boy who was shaken to the core. The man's voice was so pleasing and soothing that even Jensen raised his head from the bowed position that it already was. He glanced at the man and nodded quickly and in succession.
“You are twenty three and you live across the road from Hallmark," the inquisitor said again with his extremely soothing voice.
“Y… yes, “ the boy said.
The inquisitor, a dark skinned man, with a well cut and blended hairstyle that added to his already exquisite and warm appearance shifted his weight and bent forward. " I also heard you live with your sixty seven year old murder who is currently on meds for concurrent episodes of psychosis, “ he whispered in an apologetic tone.
"Yes…," the boy began, the entire situation had already broken him and now, the mention of his mother seemed to reactivate him a bit. “That is why I cannot go to jail if I go, she dies, and I cannot let her die, “ he replied, his face a catalog of emotions.
“There have been studies though, do you know Jensen?” The inquisitor paused his hand poised in a less threatening manner. " Psychosis can be hereditary sometimes, have you ever been diagnosed with psychosis? Have you ever maybe felt like your own thoughts are not your own? “ He asked.
Jensen shook his head in reply but the dark skinned man smiled. "Jensen, I would like us to speak with each other, " he said.
" No sir, I have never been diagnosed, “ he replied with a soft, tired voice.
The inquisitor shifted his weight again this time relaxing. “So, allow me to help you. My name weirdly is Jenese, my name is an anagram of yours. I am here for you but you have to comply with my requests, “ he said.
The boy nodded in readiness. “Good,” the inquisitor replied. “Now answer me the question, who put you up to this?"
The boy shook his head and put his hand on the table slowly, and with a voice so close to tears that it made Melissa stop drinking, he spoke. “I didn't do it. I didn't… I swear I didn't, I keep saying this, I had nothing to do with it. I have been working there for three years, I have never done anything like that… “ he was ranting on and on, his spirit broken. He probably has never been in a police station in his entire life and suddenly he is being held in the Sentinel headquarters and questioned by an actual inquisitor.
Inquisitors were the highest ranking officials in the Sentinel program, maybe aside from someone like Richard who isn't exactly a sentinel but has the jurisdiction to give orders to them due to his royal badge as Guard to the queen and also he has a reputation and enough royal accolades to equal an inquisitor without even being Melissa's bodyguard.
Without anomalies like that only regional heads and the royal can truly order an inquisitor on genuine grounds. If the inquisitor finds their orders suspecting, they can ignore the orders on even grounds. Though their name might make them seem like mere interrogators, they are actually the kingdom's auditors. They investigate matters involving fraud and betrayal, so they needed a bit of freedom to operate efficiently.
This is why Jensen can barely speak. If that inquisitor orders his death, probably only her could stop him with a solid argument that is. His fine demeanor was just a facade.
“Okay,” Jenese smiled. " Why did you run?” he asked, but the boy couldn't reply.
Melissa decided to intervene now, she flared her aura and then glanced at Richard who was in his no presence state. He looked at her and nodded. Soon Melissa found herself dissolved within blackness and she appeared in the interrogatory room.
The inquisitor glanced up at her and wanted to speak, but Melissa flared her aura and directed it at him. The man couldn't even speak as he became greatly frightened of Melissa. She however turned to Jensen. “Did you do it," and for the second time in her life , she used the Alpha's Will. Her mind forcefully crashed into his and the boy cowered and shook in fear.
" No!” He said simply.
Melissa used her aura to sense any form of lies and she didn't sense any. He didn't do it, then who did?
