Chapter 131 Ouroboros Cycle
Where are you getting all these from?" Margaret asked.
She realised she had never told Margaret about her past life and rightly so. She wasn't as trusted or as well grounded as the rest. Most of the people in the room, she had known for two life times and they'd earned her trust over those times as she'd earned theirs. Even her biological family could not replace the love she had for these people.
These made her remember a human proverb- "The blood of covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." It meant most times, the bond one shares with people they relate with day in day out, runs deeper than one’s biological family.
Even though she loved her family and she missed them everyday, the little time she'd spent with these people had been more than what she had with her family. Not to ignore the fact that they even healed her when she was hurt by the death of her family. In their own weirdly unique way, they filled that void.
In place of Dreykov's love, she got Beatrice's cold staring glares that nudged in the right way every time and in place of her father's direct rebukes, she got Avalors who enjoyed using underhanded ways to pick her up. In place of her mother, she got Vanessa and Candice. Even though those two weren't within the inner circle, they were still important to her. And to top it all off, she still had Richard, except he was a bit softer and happier than she had known him all his life.
Margaret for now was just an outsider, really, like a workmate or something, not someone she really wanted to tell all her secrets. She was definitely smart and knowledgeable but that wasn't why she was in their group, she was here because at one point she'd earned the trust of her mother. Her mother was a good judge of character.
"Let us just say, I have an archive worth of experience," she said.
Beatrice glanced at Richard and then at Melissa before she spoke. "Are you acting on my hunch?" She asked.
"Yes and no, it is complicated, but we really need to head down there tonight or Hance and his beta are going to die," she said.
"I can send some bodyguards, you are already tired and so are we, are you absolutely certain we need to do this?"Richard asked.
Melissa had known Richard for a while and she knew he was trying to get a genuine response from her. Over the months she'd gotten really good at lying and hiding things. She managed to string Ronald along for almost two months and till now, he still didn't know how or when she changed. However when it came to Richard, he always knew when she was telling a lie, so she'd refrained from lying to him.
"No," she said. "I am not absolutely certain, but if there is a chance it would happen, only the people in this room right here, right now, can stop it," she said, looking at all of them. "Look, this is a little bit more than just an hunch. Remember how everything is a cycle? The past always repeats itself, albeit in different forms and manners," she explained.
"Wait, the past? You mean that past?" Avalors asked.
"Yes," she said.
It was as if they'd attached a spring to them all, they stood up all at once. "Margaret," Avalors said. "Go to your room," he said. "We will be back tomorrow morning, latest," he said.
Margaret was completely confused, one second they were all chilling and trying to avoid work and suddenly they were all up like zombies. "What the hell is going on?"
"I can't explain that, it is not my place to," Avalors answered. "But go , we will definitely see tomorrow," he whispered the last words and then kissed her.
Everyone, including Beatrice turned around and said, "Eeew."
They all in a way considered Avalors as a father, even though he was just in his late forties, he was experienced and smart. He gave off that old man nature even in the way he acts negatively. He always had problems trying new things. Just like Margaret couldn't get him to try and learn to gain an innate ability. His response was. "Wolves fight with claws and fangs, not some itsy bitsy magicky nonsense."
They'd all broken down in laughter. Seeing that person kissing always puts something on them.
“Get a room," Richard said, it always affected him the most.
Avalors smiled and stretched out his hand. "So where are they staying?" He asked.
"The State house of course," Melissa said. Sometimes this old man missed out on information he should normally know, which adds to his father's aesthetic. It was as if he was so grown, he'd started to forget things. There were times Richard would joke that his hands were shaking and it didn't help that he had natural grey hair.
He would explain to them all day that it was natural and the best reply he'd gotten was that he was born old. The funny thing was that he'd remarked that his parents always made the same joke. They'd always told him then, that he would always be around after they were gone, cause he couldn't get older, as he had always been old. The joke then seemed harmless, but now, it carried way more weight than an ordinary joke should.
"But isn't that heavily guarded?" Richard asked.
"It is heavily guarded against outside foes, not inside threats," Avalors replied to him and Richard nodded.
The state house was what they called the second castle that was initially built for the Alpha or Luna of Dunham to move to as a renovation of this one. Melissa's father had shunned the idea and instead turned it into a visitor's lodge — Mostly royal visitors or very important personnel.
Melissa grabbed hold of Richard's and Avalors and then the darkness of Richard enveloped them and they vanished from sight.
