Chapter 129 As happy as a Luna
They completed the meeting at last and Melissa began to greet the dignitaries. She shook the hand of each and everyone of Vance's council members. They all spoke to her like she was a kid, but she wasn't even focused on what was happening. She was too lost in her own thoughts to find meaning in whatever they did.
Richard walked silently behind her, even though he seemed to have entirely withdrawn into his own shell. He seemed to be thinking too. Even the usually hyperactive Margaret was silent. The threat that such an organisation posed wasn't minute at all and they were already at the centre of the game, there was no coming out.
She turned to a corner and there was the Infernal waiting for her at the edge of the corridor. "My, lady, "he greeted with a bow.
"Infernal," Melissa nodded.
"The entire meeting was great, and also congratulations on still keeping Vance with us," he said. "I just wanted to confirm if you'd decided to take up my proposition?" He asked with a smile.
Melissa looked at him. "I have, but you will owe me…" Melissa looked at him then added. "Twice."
He smiled. "Thank you. '' he said. "I am infinitely grateful," he said with a smile and then walked off.
Melissa walked forward, evading the crowd that'd come to greet them. Richard walked behind her and his three guards were making sure no one was going to touch her. She walked briskly but majestically towards her room's corridor.
She was about to reach the room's corridor when a little boy broke the line, rolling in between the legs of one of the guards. Before he could stand up and make a break for her, Richard appeared in front of him with a dashing speed, holding him by the neck. He had no mercy, he didn't even think for one second that he was a kid.
The kid however didn't mind. "Your majesty?!" He screamed. "Sign this for me please," he said, stretching a claw model towards her.
"Richard, let him come to me," Melissa used their telepathic link.
The Demon Wolf dropped him and he rushed for Melissa. She knelt down and smiled at him and then she rubbed his head. The little boy's face reddened. This was probably the first time he'd ever entered the palace and not only did he get to meet the queen, but she was rubbing his head with her hand.
The thing was, during important meet ups like this, it was tradition to allow ordinary people into the palace just to allow them get a feel of the political squabbles and also elate their spirits. It was a ceremony and the wolves loved their ceremony.
Melissa sighed, if not for the current problem she was facing, she would have focused more on the crowd, but a lot was spurring within her. The little boy had however made her remember her role as a Luna. She looked at the entire crowd and then waved to them with a smile before lifting up the boy in her arms.
The crowd went wild and she was shocked. She didn't know how much the crowd actually liked her. She had never thought of it once, if they liked her or not; she had too much on her plate and she knew she always tried to be fair with them, but she'd made few decisions that hurt some of them a bit but as it would seem, she still had a large population who liked her rulership. It shot up her confidence.
She decided to actually complete the whole ceremony, she turned around and started to head outside the palace, the little boy still in her hands. The boy was grinning, this was probably the happiest moment of his life.
"What is your name?" Melissa asked.
"Richard," he said.
Melissa raised her brows and glanced at Richard and she could see the demon wolf facepalm. "Is that your real name?" She asked.
"No,"he shook his head and Melissa exhaled. "It is what my friends call me, they named me after him," the little boy pointed to Richard and she giggled.
"So you like the demon wolf?" She asked with a smile, ruffling the boy's head again.
"Yes. He is strong," the little boy said.
"But tell me your real name, I want to remember it," she smiled.
"Ash," the boy said. "Ash Alion," he said.
"Lovely," Melissa smiled. "You have a strong name, and a cute one too," she then drew him closer, pecking him on the cheek. She could feel him heat up, almost exploding. The crowd made an “oooo” sound as she pecked him.
She could hear whispers of "lucky kid," from the crowd. At last she reached outside the castle , as the crowd flocked past her, she waved at them and then waited for Hance and the others to come.
She gestured Hance over and the majestic Alpha strode towards her, he then leaned forward. "Let's have a picture," Melissa told him. "We are allies right?" She peered into his eyes.
"Definitely," he nodded.
They rallied each other and stood at the uppermost staircase of the Castle's entrance and watched as the crowd’s yell rattled underneath them. A photographer appeared between them and Melissa lifted the little boy well as he took the picture.
Ash smiled the widest, she'd probably made his entire day, except the little boy didn't know he'd made hers too. She wasn't necessarily seeking approval from anyone, but it was really good to know she had it. She felt elated and could barely contain her own excitement.
She signed the boy's sweater and handed him over to the sentinels, so they made sure he got to his parents.
"Thank you, your majesty," the boy waved as they carried him away, and Melissa bowed to the little boy before she waved back in happiness.
Melissa exhaled and walked back to her room, tumbling on to the bed. She was tired and probably hungry . Richard and her maid walked in after she did. Vanessa and Candiee smiled at her, gesturing for her to get up. They would definitely need to get her dressed up. Melissa grunted before getting up angrily.
