Chapter 103 Meet up
Richard led her around the corner of the zoo itself as she followed his footsteps briskly. She glanced around, her reactions betraying her agitation and fright. They skimmed through the crowd going towards the zoo.
After a while they reached a quiet alley near the zoo and she spoke. "Do you even know what you are doing?" She asked Richard.
"What do you mean?" Richard asked back, relaxing his guard as Reynolrs drove a blue van towards them.
"I'd expected you to be more discreet about this," she half ran and half walked with Richard.
"Blending in and making everything seem normal is actually very discreet," he replied without looking back.
Avalors pulled the van up beside them and peered out the window and smiled at Margaret. Richard could almost facepalm but he just sighed as the old beta pulled up with his charm. "It is still Margret right?" He smiled.
Richard slid open the van and gestured Margaret to enter, he glanced back only to see Margeret glowing with a smile as she spoke with Avalors. "I wouldn't change it on your account handsome," she replied.
"Oh… no, no, no," Loku muttered to himself "Just get in the van," Richard said and they shut the van door.
Then they circled back towards the hotel. Though throughout the journey, Richard just sat there trying to stop himself from puking. Avalors and Margeret flirted all the way.
"Why didn't you call my number though, darling?" Margerer said as they drove along.
"I'd to discard all the things that might connect me to this place, a really heartbreaking decision," Avalors replied. "I hope I can be forgiven?”
"Of course you are, though I am a little bit sad you didn't come to get me yourself," she replied with a pout and Richard wanted to whack her.
"Ah, mission protocol, don't wanna spark any old memories, you know?" He said.
"Sweet," she replied with a smile.
Normally, Richard had planned to interrogate Margeret before they would even get her near Melissa but as it seems, he couldn't. Though the whole thing was absurd to Richard, the way they spoke to each other and the comfort that was with it and the ease at which they smiled at each other's words. Richard couldn't actively deny they didn't have a connection. But still maybe it was the way Richard took Avalors, it felt as if his father was flirting with girls, it made him feel weird inside his own skin.
It was that same feeling he knew he had as a kid when he saw his father hugging a lady tightly and the lady slightly pecking him. Throughout the day he just felt like he wasn't himself anytime he thought about it. He just decided to close his eyes.
After a while, Richard's torture ended as they reached the building of their hotel. Avalors parked the truck and instead of them getting down, to avoid suspicion, Richard looked at ber, grabbed her hand and let the darkness consume him as he would reappear a few metres away from the front door to their room.
Avalors on the other hand got out of the van, pretending to check the engine, after a while he entered and drove off. Ever since Melissa had been shot in public, they'd been extra careful. Naturally, they'd suggested she should always remain in the confines of the castle but Richard had suggested it would be wrong. The best way to protect her is to show they were not afraid. That was why Richard had focused on improving her awareness. They still haven't been able to pinpoint Melissa's actual ability.
Her innate ability had been closely related to being an empath as she could sense emotions from other people but now, Richard had confirmed that her ability to react to things faster than normal was like an extension of that ability, she was precognitive, because she could pick up tiny disturbances in the molecules and this had actually allowed her to be able to reflexively dodge things that was even way faster than her as her body had already sensed it longer than her brain could process.
The entire situation with Melissa was still a mystery, that was why protecting her was like their top priority. Even though she didn't realise it herself, she brought so much hope into them. That was why Avalors was currently driving away from the hotel just to deter anyone who might be following them.
In their hotel Richard led Margeret towards the door and she was beaming. "So the rumours were true," she said. "People said the demon wolf can call upon the darkness of the entire world," she said smiling.
"Gods," Richard exhaled. "I do not and cannot do that," he said.
"Well, you just did," she paused then rushed sideways to a washing zinc attached to a corner of the floor. She vomited every single content of her bowels into it and Richard had not been more happy.
"Maybe she'd shut up now,"he muttered to himself.
She cleaned her mouth with a handkerchief in her small handbag. Richard looked at her and wondered how old she was. She sure looked like she was in her late twenties but Richard knew she was probably older than that. He shook his head then knocked codedly on the room door.
"Magma," a voice said from inside.
"Code, Ashfalls," then the door clicked open.
Richard entered with Margeret and Melissa was waiting for them with Beatrice, both of them were writing something down and a series of files were scattered across a desk. A printer and a laptop were right beside them.
The guard who opened the door was the man- Eric, whom Melissa loved calling Mr. Muscle for obvious reasons. Richard nodded at him and he exhaled before nodding back. "I'll brief you later," Richard told him, holding a straight face but he could have guessed Melissa had stressed the life out of him.
He walked straight and found the female bodyguard at the window, separating files and also checking the window once in a while with binoculars.
"Hey," he greeted the two she-wolves. They glanced up and replied before facing Margaret.
"So is she the one?" Beatrice asked.
"Without a doubt," Richard replied.
