Chapter 104 - LUNA'S BAGGAGE

Asher

I asked Timothy and Jeremy to keep Martin and his group. Knowing the old turd, I was sure he would let some of their plans slip. I was about to get a headache from Timothy rumbling through the link every few seconds. He had turned into some sort of live reporter. The man even told me what parts of their bodies they were washing at a particular time.

“Alpha, should I hide their clothes?” Despite my irritation, I could not help but smile when he suggested something that childish. Hiding their clothes in broad daylight, did he think they were blind?

Jeremy cut into the conversation in a tone that left no room for argument.“Get serious!” And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Jeremy went with him. This is also why I needed an assistant beta, someone needed to keep Timothy in check.

“He is asking if we need his help. What do I say to him?" Alison's voice rang through the mate link, cutting my conversation with the betas. Chris had already promised to be on our side but this solidified it. It was a struggle to resist the urge to fist pump. Having a member of the council on our side, I guess them coming here was a blessing in disguise.

As much as I wanted to talk to Chris immediately, I could hear Martin and his people coming back.“Ask him to come back. We will talk about everything after the meeting." Let's hear what these people have to say first, it wasn't as if I was hoping for anything nice. I just wanted to be done with them.

Chris didn't get back to the meeting on time. Alison said he went to look at his mate again. I panicked for the first five minutes before finally relaxing. Would you believe that none of them realized Chris wasn't with them? Or maybe they did, but they didn't care about his whereabouts. I was already thinking of excuses to give should anyone inquire about him. Was his standing with them that bad?

They sat there talking among themselves for nearly half an hour, from the way Martin kept stealing glances at me I knew he was baiting me. He was waiting for me to snap, what an annoying old man! Timothy had already informed me that they had agreed to this. According to Martin, he needed to show me my place. The fact that he went through with the plan even while knowing two of my people were with them showed just arrogant he was.

I was going to play this game with him but I was anxious to talk to Chris. so I gave in. “Why are you guys here? Did you finally come to help me find the missing children? I haven't collected all the required signatures." What? I said I gave in. I didn't say I was nice about it.

It was satisfying to see most of them look away in embarrassment. "Don't be too much young man. You have caused enough trouble as it is." As he couldn't sit still, he slapped his thigh with every word said. Those sitting beside him hurried to cover their faces from the spit shower.

"What trouble, I haven't done anything to you..." I was rudely interrupted before I could finish my words.

"Do you know how many humans have picked up on the lies you posted online? You are a disgrace to alphas, such a selfish brat. Your father shouldn't have handed you the reigns, at least he has more sense than you." I wasn't surprised that he liked my father considering the kind of man he was.

"I only published the truth, besides, none of this would have happened if you hadn't tried to make things hard for me. If..."

"So you created all this trouble just to punish us for not helping you?"

"You know we can't deploy our forces just to save some humans." Three or four voices spoke up at the same time. Even after all this while, they did see the problems with their actions. Some humans! That was my mate and children dammit!

"If you had gotten off your asses and helped me on that day I would never have found out everything I know now. So if I were to blame anyone it would be you guys." I continued as if no one had interrupted me.

I didn't realize Chris was back until he spoke, I don't think Martin or the rest did either."So, everything you published was the truth?" I knew he was helping me immediately after he asked that. But who was Martin to let him share his opinion? I was beginning to wonder if the council members knew the truth or if they were just blindly following Martin.

"How could that be true, what could humans help us with? We are the superior species after all." Martin's arrogant voice opposed Chris' observation.

There was a look of confusion on Chris' face, another person that was good at acting had joined us. "So does that mean that Asher weaved this whole tale just to spite us? That doesn't make sense to me, he is Alpha meaning he is supposed to protect his people why would he put his own people in d..."

"Stupid boy! Who allowed you to talk when the rest of us are having a conversation? Shut up!" The rest of the council members snickered as Martin told Chris off. This had to be something that happened often because none of them seemed surprised by the older man's outburst. "You are not supposed to be here in the first place, so you better know your place." I am not going to lie but I felt bad for him at that moment. No wonder he said something along the line of not wanting to come here.

"Why are you shouting at the man? If anything, I think his question makes a lot of sense. My aim as Thompson Spring's Pack is to protect my people and that includes my mate. I would never put my people in danger because I was feeling angry. Everything that I said was true, why would you guys rush here if it wasn't? Aren't you being driven by guilt?"

"Preposterous! We have nothing to be guilty about. We wouldn't kill hu..." Finally, someone else other than Martin had the chance to speak. "The Alpha king is displeased with you and that is why he sent us. You had better take down all your lies before you cause irreparable damage." He pulled out the big guns, name dropping the highest symbol of authority but that did not phase me. I had long lost respect for the so-called king.

"I will not take it down. Tell the king to find me himself if he has something to say." There was a collective intake of air. I could almost hear them shouting blasphemy at me. The surprised look on their faces was comical to see.

"How can you say that!? Just because of some stupid human woman you would go against your people? You are such a..."

"LEAVE!" Alison was my bottom line! I was willing to let it go the first few time but he was being too much. Insulting an Alpha's mate right in his face. "Timothy see them out! Jeremy, make him stay behind! We need to take some sort of hostage to gain the upper hand." The man I picked to stay as hostage pushed Chris into the line of fire just as I had hoped he would.

"He is the one want, let the other one go," I told Jeremy through the link when I saw him abandon Chris to go for the guy I had originally pointed out.

"Elder Martin! Save me! I don't want to be left behind." Chris put up a fake but very convincing struggle. Martin didn't even look back. He harumphed before walking out of the room! The others quickly followed him, abandoning Chris.

"Don't hurt him. He is one of us." I said just in time to stop Jeremy from dislocating the poor man's shoulder.

"YOU ARE GOING TO REGRET THIS!" the old man shouted from outside the meeting hall like the coward he was. It was true, most council members had long forgotten how to fight. Especially the older generation. After getting used to the life of luxury they had let themselves go, believing in the protection that came with being the king's men. In their eyes, there was no one bold enough to go anything to them.

I could hear Timothy shouting at the to go away, his voice traveled throughout the pack. I had known him long enough to understand that he was trying to embarrass them. His shouting was in hopes of him garnering a crowd. The round of applause when they had stepped out of the pack lands was loud. Hopefully, they don't come back for a while.

I panicked when I noticed there were tears in Chris' eyes when everything settled down. He remained sitting where Jeremy had pinned him down earlier. "Are you OK? Jeremy, I told you not to hurt him." What if he changed his mind because we were too rough? I didn't know what to do when faced with tears.

"I didn't do anything to him!"

"Are you sure? Check on him, aren't you a doctor?"

"It wasn't him! He didn't do anything, I just can't believe none of them tried to save me. They just left me here, I knew they didn't like me but I didn't think they would be this heartless." He was like an abandoned puppy. "I was going to stay behind anyway but I expected them to at least do something." Expectation begets disappointment.

"You can't be crying because of those buffoons. Besides, your mate is here. Isn't that a win for you? Would you rather stay close to your mate or go back with the people that have no respect for you?" I tried to console him.

He sniffled for a while before finally, "But I need to go back to them if I need to gather information for you guys. I wouldn't know what their plans are if I am stuck here." Yes, this is what I wanted to discuss. With Chris being on our side, it will be easier to know what they were planning.

"We can't just let you go immediately, that will look suspicious. Go and see your mate, we can talk when you are calm." His eyes shone with excitement when I mentioned his mate. He refused my offer to have someone escort him there before he took off running

"Alpha, do you really think he is on our side?"
