Chapter 107 Awakening pt 3
Duncan
Lucian had a grin on his face, and even Tristan was smiling. I walked over to her and pulled her in for a hug, not caring about how sweaty she was. I pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Yes, you did. I knew you could. But next time, you should probably wait until the match is called to celebrate." I chuckled.
Her face grew pink. "Oh, right. Sorry," she said sheepishly.
"It's no problem, beautiful. Now, you're so small, you may not be able to bring someone as big as me or Tristan down. Certainly not easily. You need to use your speed and your agility to your advantage. I want you to practice those next on that obstacle course over there." I pointed to the right of the training field where we had our agility course set up. "Run through that twice. Lucian will stay here with you. I'm going to head back to my office and take Tristan with me. I need to initiate him and Blake into the pack this morning, before I forget."
A fierce fire burned in her gaze, her lips pressed into a thin, hard line as she appraised the tough course. She nodded once, then spun and kissed me before taking off for the obstacles, yelling, "Lucian, come on!" as she ran.
He just shook his head, chuckling, as he followed her. His limp was all but gone; his stride eating up the ground between them.
I turned to Tristan. "Come on. Let's get this squared away, then we can check on Dad and see how his plans for security are coming along."
We walked in silence, making it back to my office with minimal interruption. As we entered, I asked an omega to show Blake in. I walked around behind my desk, opening the safe where the ceremonial items were kept. Once I'd retrieved them, I stood in front of Tristan. "You'll need to renounce your ties to Blood Moon."
"I did that this morning, Alpha Duncan, in anticipation."
With a nod, I took his hand and sliced into his palm. "Repeat after me." I recited the words of the oath.
Calm and clear, Tristan swore. "I, Tristan Reed, pledge my allegiance to Crescent Moon Pack and Alpha Duncan Ravenscroft. I promise to be loyal to my alpha, uphold the standards and laws of the pack, and act in the best interests of the pack. This I so swear."
Just as he finished, Blake walked in with Elaine.
"When you have a moment, Alpha, I need to speak with you," she said.
"This should only take a minute. Have a seat."
I repeated the oath process with Blake, then sent Tristan and him back out to see how Seren was doing on the field. They were both eager to start their roles as her personal guard and I was simply glad to have the extra eyes on her, all things considered. I turned to Elaine.
"What can I do for you, Elaine?"
"It's more what I can do for you, Alpha. Your mother filled me in on your conversation this morning. I think I can be of some help."
"I don't understand."
"Powers linked to the mind—precognition, psychometry—can be tricky to master. They're not as uncommon in witches, however, as they are in wolves. I have some techniques that I can share with you to help you develop your skills, if you're interested."
I sat back in my chair, contemplating the woman in front of me. So far, she's been more than helpful, and the Goddess did indicate that I needed to train these new powers. If they were as critical as she implied, then I couldn't turn the opportunity down. I nodded. "Yes, I think that would be an excellent idea, Elaine. I'm willing to take any advice you can give me."
Her shoulders relaxed as she blew out a breath. "I'm glad to hear that. I've seen so many people who have had bits of powers like yours who have gone mad because they haven't had proper training. Not that I think you would go mad!" she held her hands out placatingly. "It's just that I don't think we can even risk that, and the Goddess obviously gave you these powers for a reason. If I can share my knowledge and have it help our cause, that makes me happy."
"I understand and am grateful. We don't have a lot of time. So tell me, what do I need to do?"
"The first step is the Awakening."
