Chapter 114 – The Shattering Storm

Chapter 114 – The Shattering Storm

\---

The air was ash and thunder.

Louve stood alone in the molten chamber, every nerve shredded raw, every breath like swallowing razors. Her body screamed at her to collapse, to let the abyss swallow her whole, but she forced her trembling legs to remain locked beneath her. The ember in her chest burned too bright for surrender.

The abyss was preparing its next strike. She could feel it—like the entire cavern had inhaled, holding breath before a scream that would tear worlds apart. Chains rattled, glowing violet as if drawing heat from the molten rivers. The monstrous eyes embedded in the core narrowed, focusing on her, hatred so heavy it was almost physical.

You defy us, it whispered through the firestorm, its voice a thousand tones at once. You feed us even as you resist. There is no victory for you here, only slower ruin.

Louve spat blood into the molten stone, the hiss sharp and final.

“You’re not the first to tell me I can’t win.” Her voice was hoarse, ragged, but steady. “And you won’t be the last.”

\---

The abyss screamed.

Violet fire surged outward in a dome, faster and sharper than lightning. Louve barely raised her arms before the wave slammed into her, hurling her across the cavern. Her back hit the stone wall with a crack that stole her breath, her body folding, lungs refusing to draw air.

She slid down the scorched surface, every bone shaking. For a moment, she thought she’d lost—her fire flickering low, her ember dim.

But the ember didn’t extinguish. It pulsed. One, two, three—slow, steady beats like a second heart, demanding she move, demanding she fight.

She pushed her palms into the rock, claws carving grooves as she dragged herself upright again.

“Still standing,” she croaked, forcing a smile that showed more teeth than calm.

\---

The abyss did not hesitate.

It unleashed spears of violet flame, each one jagged, twisting, aimed to pierce rather than burn. Louve dodged left, her wings flaring ragged arcs of fire, then rolled hard to the side as another spear slammed into the ground where she’d been a moment earlier. Molten stone splashed her face, blistering skin instantly.

Her body shook under the punishment. Her vision swam, her ears rang, but she kept moving. She couldn’t outlast it—she knew that—but she could resist, delay, buy herself time.

Buy him time.

“Kade…” she whispered under her breath, not sure if the name would reach, but hoping the ember carried it through.

\---

A chain snapped.

The sound was deafening, a thunderclap that echoed like the cracking of a world. One of the massive links binding the core broke in two, molten shards raining down. The abyss shrieked, its voice echoing through every vein of stone.

You cannot stop what has begun!

The chamber began to collapse inward, ceiling dripping molten fire, rivers reversing direction and rising instead of falling. Louve staggered as the ground beneath her split open, violet light spilling upward like blood from a wound.

She raised her wings, forcing the fire inside her to flare brighter, steadying herself. But the truth was undeniable—she was outmatched. Her ember gave her resistance, but not enough to finish this fight alone.

The abyss knew it too.

Its laughter rolled through the storm.

You burn bright, little spark. But every flame dies. And when yours fades, your body will belong to us.

Louve gritted her teeth, fire lashing against her skin. “Try and take it,” she spat.

\---

The abyss obliged.

A torrent of violet flame crashed down from above, a tidal wave of heat so immense it drowned the cavern. Louve barely had time to cross her arms before it swallowed her whole.

Her fire screamed in protest, the ember threatening to burst apart under the weight. She felt her skin blistering, her wings tearing, her bones vibrating to the point of shattering.

Her scream tore out of her throat raw and primal. Not of surrender, but of survival.

“NOT YOURS!”

Her fire burst outward, gold interlacing with violet, creating a violent whirlpool of clashing heat. For a moment, the flames canceled each other, leaving her in a trembling eye of silence. Her chest heaved, smoke pouring from her lips.

But she was still alive.

\---

The abyss went still.

Its countless eyes blinked in eerie unison. The cavern trembled, but not from collapse this time. From… hesitation.

It was watching her.

Studying her.

What are you becoming? the voice asked, low now, almost curious. What vessel survives this long?

Louve bared her teeth, forcing herself to stand straighter despite the fire still crawling over her skin. Her wings flared wide, flames dripping from their ragged edges.

“Not a vessel,” she said, her voice cracked but steady. “Not your weapon. Not your prisoner. Just me.”

Her hand pressed against her chest, against the ember. “And you’ll choke on it before you ever own it.”

\---

The abyss shuddered, chains thrashing like furious serpents.

But beneath the rage, Louve saw something else. A flicker of doubt.

She realized then—her survival itself was defiance. Every breath she dragged in, every step she took, every flame she cast was an affront to the abyss’s certainty. It couldn’t comprehend her refusal. It couldn’t understand how she endured.

And for the first time, she wondered if she could win.

Not alone. Never alone.

But with him—

The ember pulsed again, as if answering the thought.

Kade was close.

\---

The abyss must have felt it too. Its fury rose higher, its chains tightening like fists.

He will not reach you. He will drown in our fire. And you will watch him burn.

The words speared through Louve, sharp and merciless. Fear clawed at her chest, trying to drag her down. But the ember burned hotter, demanding she push back.

“You’re wrong,” she said, her voice cutting through the roar. “He’s survived worse. We both have. And when he gets here, we’ll burn you together.”

The abyss’s scream shook the molten chamber apart.

\---

Louve braced herself. She knew what was coming next. The last strike had been brutal, but this one—this would be annihilation.

Her claws dug into the stone. Her wings stretched wide. Her ember roared, violet and gold light spiraling around her body until she glowed like a living star.

And then the abyss attacked.

Not with a wave this time. Not with spears.

The core itself lunged.

The massive, molten heart of the abyss tore free from its chains, dragging fire and shadow with it, crashing down toward her with unstoppable force.

Louve’s knees trembled, her chest split with pain, but she threw back her head and screamed into the storm, unleashing her fire in full.

Gold met violet.

The chamber split with light so blinding it turned the molten rivers white.

The clash was a sun exploding.

And as the abyss swallowed her whole, her last thought before the light devoured everything was simple, raw, unshakable:

Kade—get here. Now.
