Chapter 208 Night of Questions
POV: Luna
That night, I couldn't sleep.
Too many questions. Too much confusion. Too much certainty about impossible things.
I went to the common room. Found my friends there. Also unable to sleep.
"We all felt it," Nova said. "The energy signature. The familiarity. The impossibility."
"Caleb is Miguel," I said. Not questioning. Stating.
"That's not possible," Aria protested. "Miguel died. His essence was destroyed. Gone. We all witnessed it."
"His essence was sacrificed. Not destroyed. There's a difference. Energy persists. Souls transcend. Maybe his soul found a new form. A new body. A new life."
"Reincarnation?" Sienna asked.
"Maybe. Or something similar. Energy reformation. Soul reconstruction. I don't know the mechanics. But I know the truth. Caleb is Miguel. My wolf knows it. My mark knows it. My soul knows it."
"Does he know?" Lyric asked.
"Yes. He admitted it. Sort of. Said he'd tell me soon. When I was ready. When the revelation wouldn't destroy me."
"Why would it destroy you?"
"Because it changes everything. Miguel was my first love. My first loss. The one whose essence anchored to my mark. Whose sacrifice saved me. If he's returned, if he's alive in Caleb's form, what does that mean? For me? For Liam? For us?"
"It means you have choices," Nova said. "Complicated. Difficult. But choices."
"I don't want choices. I want certainty. I want Liam. My mate. My bond. My choice."
"But you also want Miguel. Your first love. Your lost connection. Your returned soul."
She was right. I wanted both. Impossibly. Selfishly. Completely.
"What do I do?" I asked.
"You wait," Sienna said. "For revelation. For confirmation. For Caleb to explain. Then you decide. With all information. All truth. All options."
"And if I can't choose? If I love them both equally?"
"Then maybe you don't have to choose. Dual mate bonds exist. Maybe triple bonds are possible too."
"That's unprecedented."
"So is everything about your life. Why should this be different?"
Fair point.
Liam found me later. On the roof. My thinking spot.
"Couldn't sleep either?" he asked.
"Too much on my mind."
"Same."
We sat together. Comfortable silence. Mate bond humming.
"I'm scared," I admitted.
"Of what?"
"Of the revelation. Of Caleb being Miguel. Of what that means for us. For our bond. For our future."
"It doesn't have to mean anything bad. Miguel was your past. I'm your present. We can coexist."
"Can we? If Miguel's back. If he wants me. If I want him. How do we navigate that?"
"We trust each other. Communicate. Be honest. Figure it out together."
"You make it sound simple."
"It's not simple. It's terrifying. But it's possible. Because I love you. And I'm not giving you up without a fight. Even to a reincarnated ex-boyfriend."
Despite everything, I laughed. "You're ridiculous."
"I'm serious. You're my mate. My choice. My bond. That's permanent. Unbreakable. Miguel's return doesn't change that. Unless you let it."
"I won't. I promise."
Through the mate bond, we shared certainty. Love. Commitment.
Whatever came next. We'd face it together.
Then Selene appeared. Looking worried. Urgent.
"We have a problem," she said.
"What kind of problem?"
"Cole's shadow. His lingering influence. It's active again. Growing. Building toward something."
"How do you know?"
"Royal magic shows me things. Patterns. Threats. Dangers. And right now, it's screaming warning. About Cole. About the architects. About approaching catastrophe."
"When?"
"Soon. Maybe days. Maybe hours. But something's coming. Something big. Something connected to everything we've been fighting."
"Then we prepare. Like we always do. We gather the pack. Fortify defenses. Survive."
"There's more," Selene said. "The warning. It specifically mentioned you. And Caleb. Together. Like you're both targets. Both keys. Both necessary for whatever they're planning."
That was concerning.
We returned to the dorms. Prepared to sleep. To rest before the next crisis.
I found a note. Slipped under my door. Handwritten. Caleb's handwriting.
There's more you need to remember... but not yet.
When the time comes. When you're ready. When the truth won't destroy you. I'll tell you everything.
Who I am. Who I was. Who I'll always be.
For you. With you. Beside you.
Soon. Very soon.
\- C
I read it three times. Processing. Understanding. Accepting.
Caleb was Miguel. I was certain now. Absolutely certain.
And soon. Very soon. He'd confirm it. Reveal everything. Change everything.
I just had to be ready. Prepared. Supported.
For the impossible truth. The beautiful reunion. The complicated future.
Whatever that looked like.
I'd face it. Like I faced everything.
With pack. With mates. With absolute refusal to give up.
Because that's who I was. Luna Eclipse. Survivor. Fighter. Lover.
And nothing. Not even impossible truths. Would change that.
Ever.
