Chapter 207 Magical Disturbance
POV: Luna
The next morning, everything went wrong.
A massive magical surge. Otherworld energy. Flooding through the wards. Destabilizing reality.
Alarms blared. Students panicked. Faculty mobilized.
"Everyone to defensive positions!" the Headmaster ordered. "This is not a drill!"
I ran to the epicenter. Found the source. A rift. Small but growing. Between reality and otherworld.
Something was trying to break through. Something powerful. Something hungry.
"Selene!" I called through the Guardian Bond. "I need your royal magic! Now!"
She appeared within seconds. Already in hybrid form. Ready.
"What do you need?"
"Your aura! Contain the rift! Keep it from expanding!"
She manifested her protective barrier. Wrapped it around the rift. Held it stable.
But the rift fought back. Pushing. Straining. Trying to grow.
"I can't hold it long!" Selene gasped.
"You don't have to! Just buy me time!"
I channeled Eclipse power. Massive amounts. Everything I had.
Directed it at the rift. Trying to close it. Seal it. Stop it.
But it was too strong. Too stable. Too well-anchored.
"Someone's maintaining this!" I realized. "Feeding it power! Keeping it open!"
"Where?" Aria demanded, arriving with the pack.
"I don't know! But we need to find them! Fast!"
Liam appeared. In Alpha form. Protective. Ready.
Through the mate bond, we synchronized. He'd protect me. I'd focus on the rift.
Perfect teamwork. Perfect trust.
My friends formed a defensive perimeter. Protecting against rogues. Against attacks. Against threats.
I poured more power into the rift. Fighting. Struggling. Barely containing it.
Then Caleb was there. Beside me. Uninvited but not unwelcome.
"Let me help," he said.
"How?"
"Channel through me. I'll amplify. Focus. Direct. Trust me."
I shouldn't. Didn't know him. Didn't understand him.
But my wolf did. My instincts did. My mark did.
"Okay. Guide me."
Caleb placed his hands over mine. Magic flowed between us.
And something incredible happened.
Our powers merged. Not like mate bonds. Like recognition. Like perfect complementarity.
His magic amplified mine. My Eclipse power directed his energy. Together, we were devastating.
"There!" Caleb said. "The anchor point! Northwest corner! That's where they're maintaining the rift!"
"How do you know?"
"Because I can feel it! Through our connection! Through the magic flow!"
He was right. Through the merged power, I felt it too.
An anchor. Hidden. Protected. Feeding the rift.
"Aria! Sienna! Northwest corner! Find the anchor! Destroy it!"
They ran. Found it within minutes. A complex sigil. Pulsing with dark magic.
"It's protected!" Sienna shouted. "Warded! I can't break through!"
"Let me try!" I redirected power. Away from the rift. Toward the anchor.
The rift started expanding immediately.
"Luna, no!" Selene gasped. "I can't hold it without your power!"
"Just a few seconds! Trust me!"
I blasted the anchor's protection. Shattered it. Destroyed it.
The anchor collapsed. The rift destabilized. Started closing.
"Now!" I redirected power back to the rift. Combined with Selene's barrier. Together, we sealed it.
When the light faded, the rift was gone. Reality stable. Crisis averted.
I collapsed. Completely drained. Caleb caught me before I hit the ground.
"You did it," he said. "Saved everyone. Again."
"We did it. Together."
Through my mark, through the exhaustion, I felt something. A faint energy signature. Familiar. Impossible.
Miguel's signature. His energy pattern. His essence.
But Miguel was gone. Destroyed. Sacrificed.
Unless.
Unless his essence had returned. Reformed. Reincarnated.
In Caleb Webber.
I looked at him. Really looked. Past the new face. The different body. The changed form.
Saw the familiar. The known. The loved.
"Miguel?" I whispered.
Caleb's eyes widened. Surprised. Uncertain.
"Not yet," he said quietly. "Soon. But not yet. You're not ready. Not supported enough. Not prepared for what that revelation means."
"Tell me now."
"I can't. Please. Trust me. A little longer. That's all I ask."
He helped me stand. Supported me. Familiar and strange simultaneously.
Liam appeared. Felt my exhaustion through the mate bond. Took over supporting me.
"I've got you," he said.
Caleb stepped back. Let Liam take over. Respectful. Understanding.
"Good work today," Liam told him. Grudging but genuine.
"Thank you. Luna did most of it. I just helped focus."
"Still. Without you, we'd have failed. So. Thanks."
Caleb nodded. Left. Giving us space.
"Did you feel it?" I asked Liam. "Through the bond? When Caleb and I merged magic?"
"I felt something. Recognition. Resonance. Like your powers knew each other. Have known each other. For a very long time."
"It was Miguel's energy signature. I'm certain. Caleb is Miguel. Somehow. Impossibly. Returned."
"Are you sure?"
"My wolf is. My instincts are. My mark is. Everything except my mind is certain."
"Then we wait. For proof. For revelation. For Caleb to confirm what you suspect."
"And if it's true? If Caleb is Miguel returned? What does that mean for us?"
"I don't know. But we'll figure it out. Together. Like we always do."
Through the mate bond, we shared love. Trust. Determination.
Whatever Caleb was. Whatever he represented. We'd face it together.
Because that's what mates did.
They stayed. Through confusion. Through impossibility. Through everything.
Always.
