ALPHA JAKE’S POV
“Guy you are a changed man. I must say that your precious luna did an amazing job on you” alpha Fred hailed.
“And that is exactly why you must go get yourself a luna” I responded.
I was with alpha Fred and alpha Ray in Diamond Cut Pack and we were having a nice time at the club. Today was different, I did not request for any slut and I stopped alpha Fred from bringing any to us.
“You see, my Pack has amazing damsels, but people like you come to take them away and now we are left with no one to mate. Hope you are taking very good care of the first daughter of Diamond Cut Pack because should I hear otherwise, I will not fail to descend heavily on you” alpha Fred threatened.
“Do I have a choice, she is the one that is taking good care of me and I’ve got no choice but to reciprocate” I laughed and he joined me in laughing.
I noticed that alpha Ray has been silent all along. He must be regretting losing Scarlet to me. I’ve got what he so much desires and that in itself is an accomplishment on my part.
“You know, I was with you guys exactly one year ago when I told you that I will get myself a mate..” I began.
“And you also said emotions are a trap” alpha Ray cuts in.
I was enraged at his guts. Who does he think he is to have stopped me that way. Anyways, I am prepared for him and I am going to make him know that I am better in this game than he is.
“Yes, alpha Ray. I boasted that love was not for the strong, but that was until I found Scarlet. I was only a naïve child back then, but now I know better” I replied.
“I understand, my dear friend. What you feel can be better experienced than explained” alpha Fred concurred.
“On my part, I must commend the transformation. Turns out that I am not a weak alpha after all” alpha Ray said.
It is now very obvious that alpha Ray came out tonight just so as to spite him. Initially, I was surprised when I was informed that he promised to join us. But now I see the reason for his coming.
“I am glad that you agree to the transformation, but I am still nothing like you” I smirked.
“And is that supposed to be a mockery?” he flared.
“Hey, guys, please stop me. Maybe we should just talk about something else” alpha Fred begged.
“No, this talk is long overdue. I say that I am nothing like you and I will say it again. You are cursed, you can never find love. But that is not the same with me. I have found love now and that is the reason for the transformation” I blasted.
“Love” he laughed. “See who is talking about finding love. You married a girl that’s got no choice but to love you and then you saw how appalling you are and decided to pretend about turning a new leaf. I know you, we all know you and we would all agree that there is no love in you, not even an iota of it” he retorted.
I laughed and responded in mockery. “I understand your plight, Ray. And I must say that I feel for you. The one thing that you spent your whole life looking and begging for was offered to me on a platter of gold. It was offered freely to me because I was deserving of it. So tell me, what about that your self-acclaimed mate? What is her name again, Gina? Yes, Gina. When are you guys inviting us over?”
“Hey, not now, Jake. You know what he has been through” alpha Fred pleaded.
“No, leave him, Fred, let him have a field day. I and Gina are still trying to fix things up, it’s not been easy, but we would get there soon” he responded.
“For how long? You guys are taking like forever. Are you even sure that she is your mate as she claimed?” I asked.
I was getting a little concerned for him now. Yes, we fight and fall out often, but he still is my good friend. This is our style, this is how best we understand each other.
“I am frustrated, dude. I can’t continue to hide the truth from the two of you. Gina has no love to offer and I am beginning to think she came just to trap me. The last time I was informed that she went back begging her ex to take her, but he refused so she is still with me” alpha Ray lamented.
“And what did she say when you confronted her about it?” I asked.
“Nothing” he replied.
“And what do you mean nothing?” I yelled.
“I could not bring myself to confront her. I don’t think I will be able to bear losing her. I can’t stand ending up all alone over again. See, her true mate has rejected her, and I don’t have a mate so we can put up with each other. At least for her, I don’t have to fear that a mate would show up one day and claim my woman” he explained.
In truth, his explanation was not making any sense to me, but I know the plight of a male wolf without a mate, a female wolf to call his. The desperation that follows such is not something you will wish for another.
I have no words of advice or of consolation to give and all I could do was move closer to him and pat his back.
“I understand, Ray. Please don’t lose hope, it will be better soon. I don’t know when, but I can assure you that if a man like Jake would be happy in love, we too will find someone worthy of us someday” alpha Fred comforted him.
"Hey, man. What did I ever do wrong, why use me as a point of contact for your precarious situation?” I asked.
I was not finding his words amusing. Was I that bad and unworthy of love for him to use me as the perfect example to give themselves hope?
“Because you were once in a situation that is worse than this. And if you could be this happy now, then there is light at the end of the tunnel for Ray and me” he replied.
“Okay, I surrender. Yes, you guys should not give up hope. I was once worse off but look at me now. My whole life came turning around for good all because of the touch of one amazing and rare woman. Her kind must be only two. And that is, she and the moon goddess. And I bless the moon goddess for finding me worthy to bless me with the replica of herself on earth” I said.
I don’t know why, but I still found a way to flaunt my happy life on Ray’s face again even when I was supposed to be consoling him. But then, that is the only way that I and Ray understand each other. We associate by throwing punches at each other.
“Great, Jake, you threw it right into our faces again” alpha Fred heaved.
“Oh, sorry guys, that wasn’t intentional. But whatever it might be, don’t just give up hope” I replied.
“And to think that you put us all in this mess” alpha Ray murmured.
“And the moon goddess decided to show mercy on me, so what are you going to do, beat her, or take my glory away from me? See the gods show mercy on who they want to show mercy” I responded.
I hate the fact that he sulks. Why can’t he just forget what happened tens of years ago and dwell in the present? If truly I got the curse on us, why then is my life happier and merrier? It is high time that he accepted what life is about, every man for himself.
“Okay now that you guys are done. It is not new to me, I am used to it, the unnecessary fights and tussles, are all part of what I have to bear for being friends with the two of you. So can we now drink to friendship?” he asked. “A toast to friendship, a friendship that would go on from generation to generation” he requested.
He handed each of us a glass filled with wine and we all joined him in the toast.
“To friendship,” alpha Ray said.
“To friendship that would be passed from one generation to another,” I added.
ALPHA RAY’S POV
I watched as he gulped down his drink and poured himself another. I wanted to hate him but I am not allowed to. I am used to him this way and I pity him when he talked so highly of Scarlet.
He had sung her praises all night and I must commend that she really did a good job on him. But then, does he really know her? What would his reaction be when he comes to find out the truth about her?
Everyone says that he is a changed man but I did not see any changes in a man that would brag about his achievement when another is down and desired to be lifted up.
He still has pride and I wonder what his reaction would be when he comes to discover that he was given a rejected as a mate. His arrogance, though asleep would wake up with full force and I wonder what would become of Scarlet then.
Watching him pour himself a drink for the third time, I smirked and gulped down the drink that has been on my hand.
