Hidden Within The Walls
Darius
Nothing. There are no signs of the person. We have Aurora, so it isn't her, but she's reluctant to tell us who it is. We need to find them. Who knows what will happen if they run into Elara and find out, she has her wolf.
"Close off the tunnels?" Kellan looks at me.
"Not even I know all the tunnels, and I can't find them without the blueprints." They have to be somewhere. They are somewhere. I glance towards William.
"You want me to get some men to go check your father's body for papers?"
"Yes, he had his connections. We didn't bury anything with him, but his most loyal men may have slipped things in with him." I need answers. I need to find all the places where the tunnels are.
"Okay, so when are you thinking?"
"Not tonight." I don't know. Why would he bury blueprints on him?
"We searched every bathroom, all the pipes. There was nothing else," William speaks, and I nod. Of course, there is no more hidden in the pipes. My father wasn't a fool. 'Never hide things in the same places. Difference is the key to keeping everything hidden.'
Well, everything is hidden already.
"Start to seal up the tunnels we do know about. Whenever someone sees this person run into a room and disappear, search it for a tunnel."
"It doesn't help find them." Kellan looks towards me.
"I'm trying, Kellan. She is safe as long as Elara stays with Yori and the others." That is all I can do for now. She has three Betas following her around.
"And what about the whole 'Celestial sacred divine' that Elara said Winter told her? What about how she just effortlessly threw you to the ground." Kellan smirks.
"I don't know, I have people looking into it. Usually, if there is a blessing or curse, it's recorded. The one she mentioned has never been, which explains why she is different."
Over the years, I've seen so many people get their wolves back. None was like Elara, and I watched her body disappear into her wolf.
"She took you down." Kellan laughs.
"Yes, and I have no answers about that either." Or maybe we do? "He knew. Something tells me Father knew about this, and that is why he ordered all three to be killed. I don't know what it means or why, but maybe this is the reason he wanted them dead?"
It would make sense. He prided himself on how we were the strongest and only got stronger with each generation. So, did he know she would be stronger and decided to stop it before anything could happen?
"Give them a few more days to search for things within the palace. If there is nothing in a few days, then check on his body for papers." William nods at my words.
"I may have a date soon." I look towards Kellan, surprised, and he laughs. "My contact got in touch. The main guy may speak with me. So we could possibly find out who the main guy is."
"Right now, the underground and The Wolf Game aren't priorities, Kellan; Elara is. Keeping her safe, discovering why she is different, and figuring out what it means."
"And you?" Kellan looks at me. I know what he means, I thought I could just ignore it if she was my mate, but it's impossible. Even now, with so much distance between us, I can feel her.
"We continue with this Luna thing, but make sure she makes it." I look at Tony. "Make sure Sage makes it as well." The longer she is here, the more chance there is that they will figure out a way to make their relationship work.
I know she has taken over her father with her pack, and I can't release Tony. That would cause a war with all my men who want an out earlier than they should.
Sure, I could reduce his hours and give him some sort of work that doesn't require him to live on the grounds. Again, that will cause an uproar. Unless I can give a good enough reason, Sage, being his mate, isn't one. People think because I’m the king, I say, and people follow. I can’t. I need to consider other's reactions to things.
"So you plan to fix it? How is the final one chosen, Darius? What was dad's way?" Kellan watches me, and I grab the papers. Going through them, I slide the paper across to him and watch as he reads.
He laughs slightly. "So you would throw a ball and ensure that those who attend are biased and would choose the best Luna based on wealth and power."
That was the way. "That was the original plan. Now, I plan to let the public vote. It's clear Elara has far more people backing her than Lyra."
"There's a risk that people are forced to vote for Lyra in the run-up to the final vote."
"It's going to be like the live event, Kellan. No one will know until that moment, and they have minutes to vote. Those who attend here can't vote. It removes a good portion of Lyra's votes." I considered ways to get Elara to win without making it look like I chose.
"Then what? As I was set to choose her."
"I haven't got that far yet." I figured out a way to ensure she stays. To ensure she wins.
"People will expect her to marry you and become queen. Where does that leave me?" Kellan stares at me. "The one who always wanted her and didn't wait for the final moment to grow a fucking backbone!" He stands and storms out.
I'm trying. I can't give answers I don't have right now.
"I think maybe your father knew. Both of you mated to her might divide you and Kellan, creating a war within your family. Already, the cracks are showing, and no one knows how it can work." William is right, but we can work it out. "If she marries you and becomes queen, that's fine, but what about Kellan? She's his mate also. So will you be announcing she is both your mates and with you both?"
"I don't know." I haven't got that far. My focus was keeping here and safe. Afterwards, I have no idea.
