Looking forward to tomorrow
Looking forward to tomorrow
Sadness is what Maia Shelton felt as she watched Morgan Daniels walk out the door. Yesterday, before leaving for her date, she was wary of the outcome of the date, but Janata encouraged her and asked her to go with the flow. Which she did.
True, she was nervous at first. Morgan's outfit had taken her aback and left her speechless. A next-to-body dress that was split on the left side, exposing her thighs.
Morgan is a literal goddess and Maia Shelton was in awe of her beauty.
And of course, they had crowned last night with a blissful and lovemaking session.
The red-haired had shivers thinking of Morgan's body against hers. With her smart tongue and fingers, she had brought heaven right to her.
But sadly, every amazing moment had an end. Morgan had left and all Maia was left with were memories of last night. She feared they would never have the opportunity to relive last night.
Today was Friday, and Morgan was meant to return to Grassview on Saturday. And that would have been the last of it. Maia Shelton had out of instinct and asked to spend the day of tomorrow together. And Lea.
If there is any hope for Morgan and her in the future, then she had to get to know Lea, because Morgan's world revolved around her
And of course, Maia wants to get along with Morgan's daughter. She wanted Lea to like her.
The chime from Maia's phone distracts her from her thoughts. She had received a message from Louisa, requesting her attention in the office. Louisa was very responsible and cautious. Maia never had to worry about anything because she knew Louisa had everything under control, with or without her presence. She has handled complex matters that required a superior's final say, and she had handled that so perfectly.
Amongst Maia's employees, Louisa was her favourite and she had the utmost respect for her. She was a little rough around the edges, but that, however, was a means to demand respect from those who like to look down on others, and also, push away flirts and perverts. Louisa possessed the skills of a leader, very poised, organised and thoughtful. Maia could confidently leave her business in Louisa's hands and she will be presented with great reports upon her return.
Reason why, when she received a message from Louisa, asking her to rush down to the office, she knew whatever was going on at work was beyond her control, which is why once Maia read her message, she quickly rushed to the bathroom, shower and now, she was on my way to work.
Thankfully, the weather was generous as the sky was so blue and the red-haired welcomed the sun as it kissed her face. Her car was parked in front of SGC at exactly twelve on the dot. How she managed to shower, get dressed and drive here in an hour was beyond her.
Maia took her bag, and phone stepped out of the car and walk into the lobby of the building. She gave a sly smile at the security guard that stood behind the glass door of the lobby and another sly smile at the receptionist.
Maia stood in line with the other people waiting for the elevator. Once it came, they waited for the persons that were inside to walk out before entering. The elevator stops on the seventh floor and she walked out.
Today, unlike the other days, Maia Shelton was dressed in simple clothing; sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt that she matched with a pair of Air Force. And as a result of this, she could hear murmurs the closer she got to the office. It was only when she negotiated the bend that jer employees noticed her.
Keeping a straight face while walking to her office and seeing them fidget was nearly impossible. Some, look stunned to see her dressed in sweatpants.
When Maia got to the office, there was a woman, probably in her early fifties, who was sitting at Louisa's desk with a tissue in hand. Once Louisa noticed Maia, she immediately sat up and followed the red-haired into her office.
"Good afternoon, Louisa" Maia Shelton greeted, placing her handbag on the couch that sat in the corner of her office, rounding the desk, pulling out her chair and taking a sit.
"Good morning Miss Shelton" Louisa greets back while taking a seat.
"I'm here"
"I apologise for calling miss, especially as you informed me you wouldn't be coming in today. Usually, I make good judgement when handling things, but I was left with no choice" Louisa starts and Maia gave her a small smile, hoping it would make her understand that she had no issues with her for calling.
"It's fine Louisa. Talk to me"
"The lady seated out there is Masha's mom. Turns out Masha never made it home"
Maia Shelton frowned. "I'm not following," she sat up and folded her arms on the desk.
"Masha is dead, Miss Shelton. Her mom came in to tell us personally. Apparently, Masha had called and informed her mom that she couldn't obtain a leave of absence and could only make it to the wedding on the day itself" Louisa explains and Maia felt a knot form in her heart. She could barely put two and two from the information Louisa gave her. However, the only thing she deducted from that was one of her employees was no more.
"Can you send her mom in?" Maia inquired and Louisa nods. Immediately, the door opens and calls in Masha's mom. Maia ushered the lady, whose eyes were red and puffy from crying to take a seat.
"Hello Mrs Garfield, I am Maia Shelton, Masha's employer. I am so sorry for your loss" the red-haired began, stretching out her hand across the table and giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
"Thank you, my dear. I came down here thinking part of the reason why she is no more was because of you. I couldn't help but think to myself that if you had granted her permission early, none of this would have happened. I took a bus early this morning to come here only to be slapped in the face with a bitter truth. And then it all began to make sense. Her body was amongst the fourteen passengers who died on the highway coming from Middenhall Friday morning" Mrs Garfield sobbed in the tissue she had in hand that was already damped from drying her tears.
Maia Shelton opened her drawer and pulled out a box of tissue and placed it on the table, before asking Louisa to bring in a cup of water.
"I just wanted to blame someone for her death" she adds.
"I understand you, Mrs Garfield. I cannot begin to comprehend how you feel. The entire staff of SGC grieves with you" Maia Shelton sympathised with the older woman.
"Thank you, my dear. She will be laid to rest on Thursday, should anyone of you want to stop by" she says
"Most definitely," she murmured and she understand that the lady was about to leave, so she stood up. But then, she turned to Maia and said. "You look familiar my dear, have we met?" Maia looked at Louisa with a frown on her face.
She smiled at the older woman. "No Mrs Garfield. I don't think so" she replied politely. Maia heard her reply with "hmm" before Louisa held her hand and led her out of the office.
The red-haired sat back in her chair, letting out a loud sigh. Masha was no more. It didn't make sense, but part of her couldn't help but feel guilty. If she had indeed declined her request, then maybe she could have prevented her death. Why was she on that road in the first place? It bothered Maia that she had lied to her parents since she gave her permission on Wednesday, and had even asked her to take the rest of the weekend off. Not knowing she had told her parents something else and now she's no more. Losing a child is never easy, especially your only child. Masha had made it known that she was an only child, so the pain Mrs Garfield was feeling was indescribable.
Also, what confused Maia more was the older woman asking if they'd met somewhere. Where had that question come from? It was all so sudden. However, Maia decided not to give it too much thought when it clicked that Mrs Garfield may have seen her on TV during one of her interviews.
"What do you think can be done?" Maia Shelton asked Louisa once she was back in her office.
"I'm not sure yet Miss, expect a reply before the day runs to an end," Louisa says
"Okay. Inform the other department and come up with a list of persons you think should be delegated to represent the company"
"Alright Miss," she says.
"Anything else that needs my attention?" Maia questioned. Louisa pondered for a while before replying.
"None Miss," she says and stood up.
Louisa's hand was on the doorknob when Maia called out.
"Louisa, have you ever thought of being an associate member?" Maia questioned and she watched the corners of her brows crest inside, expressing her confusion.
"Miss, I'm not exactly sure why this question" replies Louisa, her hand leaving the doorknob.
"Me either. Just think about it. You have a week" Maia stated, feeling more confused as Louisa exited her office.
The time was four in the afternoon when Maia Shelton decided to check out of work. She picked up my handbag and was walking out of the office when she bumped into someone, throwing over a pile of files they had in hand.
"I'm sorry" she began to apologize, immediately bending to help pick up the file. This person laughed, and it was the most melodious sound, it made her insides fuzzy with butterflies.
"It's alright, accidents occur," she says, assisting the red-haired in picking up the files. Her voice. That was even more melodious.
Once they had finished picking up the files, Maia cleared her throat and looked at her. She was met with the most beautiful green eyes ever.
"Hey, I know you" she beams with an even bigger smile on her face.
Maia frowned.
"From the elevator earlier this morning"
Oh! Maia's mind was all over the place earlier that she didn't even notice the persons she had taken the elevator with.
"Oh... I.. uh" she stuttered
"It's okay if you didn't notice me. I usually don't know a lot of people too, but your beauty drew me in" she says, and the red-haired couldn't help but wonder if the brunette was flirting with her.
"Hey, can I have your number? So we could talk and maybe hang out sometime"
Yeah, she was definitely flirting with Maia.
The red-haired smiled at her before responding. "Sure"
She watch as her face lit up with a bright smile, showing off her perfect white teeth. Maia typed in her number in the woman's phone and saved it before handing it to her.
"Thank you" she replied and Maia walk away, feeling several kinds of emotions.
Once Maia was seated in her car, her phone rang. The caller ID showed Morgan so she quickly answered.
"Baby" Morgan's voice filled the car.
"Hey," Maia couldn't the way her cheeks flushed and she suddenly began feeling like a fifteen year with a gigantic crush.
"Missed me?" Morgan teased.
Maia missed her, that's for sure. But she didn't know whether to admit to it or decline. Not knowing what to do, she turned the tables around.
"Did you miss me?"
"Of course I do. I'll give everything to have your naked body against mine" Morgan's reply came in almost immediately as if she knew the red-haired would ask that.
"That's disgusting Morgan" Maia heard Eleanor's voice in the background making her chuckle.
"Fuck off, you bitch" Morgan replied to Eleanor and Maia heard her gasp.
"I'm sorry about that," Morgan's attention was now directed to Maia.
"It's alright. Janata is like that too" Maia spoke with a smile on her face. There was a brief silence on the other end before Morgan spoke up.
"I'm looking forward to tomorrow," she says, and Maia could sense the excitement in her voice making her heart flutter.
"Me too" Maia replied with a big smile on her face.
