Hospital

Hospital
Did I lose my baby?” Laiba Fawkham questioned, looking at the doctor with fear in her eyes as she dreaded getting a reply to her question, but still, was eager to know.

Morgan Daniels stood by her, took the red-haired's hand and gave it a comforting squeeze. The doctor wasn’t helping. He had not answered her question, making not only Laiba but Morgan anxious.

He would look up at the girls, shift his gaze back to the jotter he hand in hand, read through it, turn the page and then look back at them, before repeating the act all over again.

Jonah was taking quite some time to make it here. Morgan had called him the very instant they got to the hospital and informed him of what happened.

That was over an hour ago. And he still wasn’t here.

The wait was killing Morgan. It felt like ages when the doctor finally spoke up.

“No madam. You have what we call a threatened miscarriage” he says making Laiba gasp, squeezing Morgan's hand a little too tight.

“I’m going to lose my baby,” she began to sob.

“I need you to calm down Madam, and let me explain” Morgan rolled his eyes at the doctor's orders.

Certainly, he wasn't expecting her not to get upset over such news.

“This usually occurs when the patient has an infection- like a urinary tract infection, or the patient becomes dehydrated, using certain drugs or medications, and have been involved in psychical trauma, or sometimes for no apparent reason at all, but are generally never caused by the things you do like heavy lifting, having sex or an outburst of emotion,”

“So, what I can deduct from what you just said is, bleeding during pregnancy is normal and we have nothing to worry about?” Morgan stepped in.

“No, not quite. Bleeding during the first trimester is common in one out of every four women. Oftentimes, bleeding accounts for two per cent of pregnancies in the ectopic location” this time, Morgan frowned.

“Wait, now you lost me. But from what you explained earlier, you said we have nothing to worry about”

“That is now what I said, miss. I was merely explaining what causes bleeding during pregnancies. In her case, none of the above because the fetus is still inside the uterus, but the outcome of her pregnancy is still in question”

Morgan was lost.

“I will require a lot of bed rest. It will help support the pregnancy. The pain and bleeding will away and you will continue to have a healthy pregnancy”, relief washes over Morgan as he finalised.

“Thank you”

“I have my wedding coming up. What do you recommend I do?” Laiba butted in.

“When is the wedding?”

“Not for another two months”

“If everything is okay after two weeks, then you can carry on,” the doctor finalised and walked out of Laiba's room.

Once the doctor was out of the room, Morgan Daniels took a seat next to Laiba who struggled to dry her tears. She looked more relieved than when they first came.

“You heard the doctor, enough bed rest. So no more going to the club. Jonaj and I will handle everything”

Laiba rolled her eyes. She hated being told what to do.

“Talking of Jonah, where on earth is that foolish brother of yours?”

“I’m not sure. He was supposed to be here an hour ago, maybe he’s stuck in traffic” Morgan fished out his phone to dial Jonah's number and only just realised that she had three missed calls and messages from Maia.

“Oh shit! I forgot I had to pick Maia up from school” Morgan hit the call button on her contact before excusing herself and stepping outside.

“Hi baby”

“Oh my God! You’re okay” she says on the other end.

“Of course I’m okay. Why won’t I be?”

“I called and it went to voicemail. I messaged and no reply. I got worried” she expressed. Remorse washed over Morgan for making Maia worry for no reason.

“I’m sorry baby. But I am actually at the hospital with Laiba. She was bleeding before we even left so I had to rush her to the hospital”

“Oh my God! Is she okay now? And the baby?”

Morgan Daniels was about to respond when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to see Jonah who was sweating and looked at Morgan with worry in his eyes. She smiled to reassure him that everything was okay and he had nothing to worry about.

She points in the direction of the room and he dashed out in a frenzy.

“Babe” Maia's voice brought the dark-haired back to the phone.

“Yes baby, I’m still here. Jonah just came in. But yeah she’s okay, the baby is alright too. The doctor recommends a lot of bed rest”

“Oh Thank God!”

“Mmmm, when is your next class?”

“Actually, I am home. I was not feeling lectures today so I excused myself and left. Janata is on her way over”

Morgan frowned. It was very uncommon for Maia to boycott lectures. Even back then when she used to work at the club, she wouldn’t dare miss lectures no matter how tired she was. And now here she was, telling the dark-haired she was back home because she wasn’t in the mood for lectures.

“Mmmm… okay baby. Have fun, I love you”

“Yeah, I love you too. My regards to Laiba”

Morgan Daniels walked back inside the ward to find Jonah seated next to her, laying his head on her stomach whilst he spoke.

“I’m so sorry I wasn’t there for you baby, please forgive me,” he says and the red-haired offered him a smile, although he couldn’t see it as his head was on her stomach.

“It’s okay baby, everything is okay. The baby is fine and I just need some bed rest” she encourages, ruffling her hands through his hair.

Morgan Daniels stood by the door and took in the sight before her. This right here was true love. Laiba and Jonah have been together for as long as Morgan could remember. Their relationship went through many trials, and yet they manage to overcome it every time because the love they had for each other was stronger than any trial.

They deserved to be happy, and the coming of this baby will make them the happiest they’ve ever been.

It was seven p.m. and Morgan Daniels was parking her car not far from the club. She asked Jonah to stay and take care of Laiba whilst she clocked into work. They needed each other.

She had gone home to freshen up before coming to the club. Maia and Janata were on the couch when she got home. The brunette had her elbow on the arm of the couch with her leg on the couch, engrossed in whatever Janata was saying.

However, once she heard Morgan walk in, she quickly got up, and followed her into the room but now before Morgan said a quick hello to Janata, who was now looking brighter as compared to these past days.

Morgan asked the young girl why she had come home early from the University and she gave her the same answer she did early at the hospital. However, this time she elaborated saying their professor had given them an assignment to work in a group, and since she was working alone, she decided to leave.

Morgan Daniels shrugged it away and let her go back to chitchatting with her friend, whilst she got into the shower.

Loud music filled Morgan's ears the moment she opened the bar door to the club. She made her way further into the club. It was packed for a weekday. Since the New Year’s Eve party, the clientele had tripled, meaning the workload for Terry and Resha was too much, given the fact that Trevor was no longer here. This reminder Morgan rolled have a talk with Jonah about recruiting a new personnel

Morgan smiled at Resha who was behind the counter before making her way upstairs.

The moment she was sitting in her office, she fished out her phone and dialled Jonah's number, to take updates on Laiba.

“Hey Jo”

“Hey, Morgan. What’s up?”

“Nothing, I just got to the club. How’s Laiba?”

“She’s okay. She’s resting now, her mom just came in”

“Oh great, she in good hands then. No one is more specialized to look after someone than their mom” Morgan joked, and Jonah chuckled on the other end.

“Yeah you’re right,” he says before a brief silence filled the line.

“Hey Morgan. I want to thank you for today. Thank you for being there. I don’t want to imagine what could have happened if you were not with her". Jonah blamed himself for what happened to Laiba.

It didn’t make any sense to her. The doctors had already explained the course of her bleeding, which by the way, wasn’t a result of stress or trauma. Not that he gave her any of those reasons.

Jonah has been nothing but kind, loving and protective of Laiba. He did everything he could to be there for her and make sure she lacked nothing.

Morgan let out a sigh before she spoke, “Jonah, you are doing a great job. What happened wasn’t your fault. Not once have you let her out of your sight. You did today because you knew I was coming. I need you to stop blaming yourself. Laiba is fine, and so is the baby” the dark-haired could only hope that her words will cut across and stop his guilt.

“Thank you, Morgan,”

The doctors had explained that Laiba needed ample bed rest. Morgan had planned on announcing her engagement this weekend during her birthday party, but given that her other best friend was advised on bed rest, she would not be able to attend. Jonah too, because he has to look after her.

So, throwing a big ass party was out of the question, if the two persons who were like family to her wouldn’t make it. She had to think of something else.

Morgan was going through the folder Laiba had brought to her on the night of the New Year eve’s party. It was a business plan Janah had drafted and sent for any necessary modifications.

Some while back, Jonah brought up the idea of opening another club in the south. He defended his idea saying the south was famous as teens often chose to go to college there. Asides from that, it was known for several social amenities.

It was a brilliant idea and Morgan immediately bought it.

So Morgan had asked him to go on ahead and draft a business plan, do the necessary feasibility studies and if possible, search for the perfect spot.

He had all of that done in less than a week.

As Morgan went through the business plan, she couldn’t help but feel proud. Back then, Jonah had zero knowledge about drafting a business plan or even the inner workings of a business.

He had the idea, Morgan knew how to run a business and finance, and together, they embarked on our journey.

And now, here she was, reading a business plan that was prepared by someone who five years ago, didn’t know a thing about it.

It was perfect and she loved it. Suddenly, Morgan was excited about starting this journey.

The knock on the door tore her attention from the file before her.

“Come in” she yelled, expecting to see either Terry or Resha walk in. The frown that appeared on Morgan's face was effortless when instead of Terry or Resha, Audrey walked in.
