The music played softly, and they all sat at a rounded table sipping their cocktails except Gideon who was given a watermelon fruit juice.
Each of them ordered what they wanted. Mia's picked fried chicken and salad. She has been craving it and since it was a happy day, it's not a crime to have it as well.
“Ahem!” She cleared her throat first to attract attention and when they looked at her, “Let's make a toast.” Betty said as she turned back, “Waiter, please come fill our glasses.”
A young man, who had served them before, walked up to the table with the wine bottle on a tray. They all remained quiet as they watched him refill their glasses.
“Do you need anything else?” He asked, but they shook their heads in response.
Without uttering another word, he left, carrying the finished things on the table.
“And now we have our glasses filled. Let's make a toast…. A toast to Mia getting a job that pays more than our salaries.” Betty said, and everyone laughed.
“Toast.” They said in oneness as they clinked their glasses and sipped from it. The sour taste of the wine made them give weird faces after sipping.
“Woooaawww… Finally… I'm thrilled.” Mia was already a bit tipsy from the drink she had.
“We are happy for you too, Mia.” Nico replied, patting Mia on her shoulder because she sat in-between him and her brother.
“No, no. Don't drag mine with me. I'm extremely excited… You don't know what I've done to get money. Oops, I'm spilling a lot.” She closed her mouth and smiled.
“I promise you guys, when I have enough money, I'm going to help you all. We'll be CEO's.” She raised her cocktail glass and down the remaining drink that was inside. Mia wasn't the drinking type, so they were surprised to see how she swallowed such an amount of alcohol at once.
“Mia, are you okay?” Jenny asked, looking worried.
“Yes. I am. Thank you so much, I don't know what I would have done without you all. Jenny, Nick, and Betty. I'm fucking blessed to have you all.” Turning to her brother, “Oops, I forgot you're here. I never want to hear you use that swear word. Now, instead of just staring, join me.” She tapped his head and began to thank them all over again.
It was so awkward.
“Common, Mia, there is no need for this. Ain't we friends anymore? What do friends do? Stick out for one another, right? So stop thanking us. You did help us too, remember? And we are grateful… Now, tell us about your job. We need to have fun.” Betty quickly changed the awkward situation they were in.
Mia nodded before saying, “The girl I saved from the tree is the one I'm to babysit.” She said, looking at her empty glass.
“Oh my God.” Jenny exclaimed.
Gideon almost laughed.
“Seriously?” Betty asked, as she too didn't want to believe it.
“Yes… I was surprised as well.”
“Wow. You're lucky, girl.” Nico commented.
“Your good heart brought fortune to your doorstep.” Jenny quoted and Mia smiled.
“I guess so.”
Mia was having a double feeling if she should tell them about that night and how she suspected Mark to be the man. She looked at them and could imagine their reactions. They would be disappointed in her.
“Is anything the problem?” Nico asked after studying her mood.
Mia was about to respond when a message came in.
“Let me check my phone.” She said, and drew out her phone from her pocket.
Staring at the screen, she saw two messages. One from her bank and the other from an unknown number.
Quickly going through it, she saw $500 transferred to her account. She cleaned her eyes to be sure it wasn't an effect of the drink on her.
It was still the same figure. She, then, rushed to check the other message.
“Mia, what's wrong?” Jenny asked too, but Mia was too distracted to hear anything.
She went through the other message to see it was a private line that sent the message. After reading through, she found out it was her new Boss.
“He sent me $500 to get my injuries treated.” Mia uttered suddenly.
“Who?” Nico asked. They all fixed their eyes on Mia.
“My new boss.” She answered, still skimming through the message like it was a long article sent. But all she did was go through the message again and again.
“I love your boss already.” Betty said.
“That's cool, girl.” Jenny smiled at her.
“Another glass of wine will do.” Mia commented.
After everything, Mia was completely drunk. It was time to separate, Nico helped Gideon put the two ladies, Jenny and Mia, in the cab before leaving with Betty since they lived not far from each other.
When Nico was carrying Mia, she pecked him on the cheek and patted his head.
“Good boy.” She muttered.
Nico almost lost his senses. He secretly loved Mia. It made his heart beat increase, and he was just staring at her lips.
After resisting the temptation, he helped her get into the cab and she waved, “Byyyeee Betty. Byyyyeee Nico. I love you too.” She yelled.
Gideon got in as well and right in front of them, the cab zoomed off.
“Let's go home now.” Betty cried out as her legs were beginning to hurt.
They were both drunk as well, but Nico is seemingly very much okay than the rest of the ladies. While they walked home, Nico couldn't forget what happened. The softness and chills he felt when Mia's lips touched his cheeks. It made him blush and he hit his head.
“Stop thinking.” He mumbled.
Betty started getting dizzy, so she stopped walking and turned to Nico with a smile.
“Nico, get over here now and carry me on your back. I can't walk anymore.” Betty lamented.
Nico looked at her confusedly, but Betty grabbed his hand and pinned him down.
“Stay properly so I don't fall.” She shouted, causing people to stare. And Nico smiled at them.
