Mark's question caused Mia to be in thought for a little while because she hadn't expected a Nanny to live in the same house as the child. But it's true. In most of the movies she watched, the Nannies do live in the house.
“Are you thinking about it?” Mark asked with raised brows as he relaxed his back on the chair. He wasn't a man who spent his time on a matter for too long, and then he asked, “Are you backing out?”
He crossed his hands over his chest as he observed Mia, whose lips were pressed together as she thought of a response. It's not like she has anything to lose if she is to live there as well.
“No, sir, I'll take the job.” Hearing Mia, Eunice whispered a small yes, and she did a little happy dance with her head due to the excitement she felt.
“Good.” Mark paused for a while, before continuing, “I have some rules for, and you must follow them if you want to keep your job.” He said.
“Okay sir.” Mia made sure to pay attention to his words in order not to get on his bad side.
Mark seemed like a tough businessman, and hates rubbish, especially when his daughter is involved. He still didn't feel comfortable with her and kept scanning her for any fault.
Or maybe, he remembered her from that night?
“Firstly, Eunice must go to bed early. She mustn't stay up more than 9 pm.” He explained and Mia nodded.
“Then her diet. You must make sure she eats vegetables in her meal. No vegetables, no dessert. Is that clear?” He raised his brow and she nodded again.
“What else sir?” Mia asked when she saw him thinking.
“She must wake up at exactly 5 am to prepare for school and must leave home at seven. The driver would take her to school.”
“Yes sir.” Mia replied and continued to listen to all his rules and regulations concerning his daughter. She couldn't blame him, she too was also overprotective of her brother who was just about her age.
“Lastly…” Mia's eyes diverted to Eunice, and she bit her lower lip while trying to suppress her laughter.
Eunice had been making fun of her dad and even when she tried to focus on her boss who was talking, the little girl always caught her attention.
“Is something funny?” Mark noticed Mia, and he was forced to ask her what the problem was.
“No sir. It's nothing.” she replied, gulping down. She gazed at Eunice, using her eyes to tell her it was enough joking.
After hearing everything Mark had to say, she signed a contract and thereafter, Mark discharged her.
She walked back home in excitement and took the opportunity to use her transport fare to get a little cake for a little celebration when she got back home.
She had walked a long distance, but the happiness she felt made her keep going. She knew it wasn't easy to get the job, and she was glad the man didn't find out who she was or what they had done together that night.
Not only that, but she giggled when she remembered how she enjoyed his touches that night, and the fact that she was going to be living with him meant she had to be cautious. He must not find out. And for some reason, she was glad that she used a mask that day.
“Did you get it?!” Jenny's voice startled her, but she was lucky not to drop the cake, “You did?” Her eyes gazed at the cake in Mia's hands, and it confirmed her suspicion.
“Oh, I'm so happy for you.” Jenny took the cake from off her arms and welcomed her in.
“Surprise!” Gideon jumped out to hug his sister, who already started laughing.
“You both are so funny, aren't you?” She asked, hugging her brother tightly.
“I'm so glad you got the job, sis, you'll always have time for me now.” Gideon danced all around happily but stopped when he observed she didn't look that happy.
“What's wrong sis?” He moved closer to her. Scanning her with concern written all over his face, “Did he do something to you?” He asked.
“No. He didn't. Furthermore, it is true that I got the job but….” She took a deep breath and exhaled before continuing, “I can't stay with you guys anymore.”
“Why?” Jenny and Gideon's eyes widened, and the happy mood was contaminated with sadness.
“That's what the job entails, I couldn't say no because I needed the job badly. The payment would go a long way.” She explained and they both fell loosely on the couch.
“I promise to come visit.” She held Gideon's cheek and made him look at her.
“Are you sure?” His eyes were staring at her like his life depended on her answer.
“Yes.” She pecked him on the forehead, allowing her arms to wrap around his body, “But…” she held his shoulders and looked at him with a cheerful smile.
“We'll talk later, okay?” She said to him, but her eyes snapped to the door when she heard a knock.
Betty and Nico entered the house and screamed, “Congrats!”
“What are you two doing here?” Mia itched her head before turning to face Jenny, who immediately started scrolling through her phone as if she didn't notice Mia's gaze.
“Well, we figured you needed a celebration, so I decided to come take you out.” Nico responded.
“Really?” Mia turned to Jenny again, before facing both of them, “How come you know about me getting the job?” She folded her hands and looked at them weirdly.
“Okay. We came here to visit some minutes ago. I didn't see you, and Jenny told us about the sudden call for an interview… We were still in the area when I got a text from Jenny that you got the job.” Betty confused with a grin.
“Thanks guys.”
“Yeah. Now, let's go to the place I have arranged for us, bills on me.” Nico spoke and Mia's face lit up. She had always wanted to spend time with both her friends since she stopped working at the café.
“What about Gideon?” She asked and Jenny nodded.
“We are all invited, aren't we, Nico?” Jenny asked and Nico nodded.
“But no alcohol for him.” Nico added.
“Great then. So, we'll go get changed…. Come in and have a seat.” Jenny invited them in with a smile.
They sat on the couch while the others went in to change their clothes. And in no time, they came out looking lovely.
Nico smiled in Mia's direction. Even though she didn't have the best dresses, Mia always looked beautiful to him, and he so much admired her attitude towards life. Her smile too, was so innocent and pure. It seems to always come from her heart.
“Shall we?” He said out loud.
