“What the heck, who could be calling at this time of the day?” Mark asked while his eyes were still closed. His left hand moved on to the table to find the ringing phone.
“Hello…?!” He still had his sleepy voice and his eyes were still closed as he didn't wish to open them yet.
“Bro, what the hell did you do? I just saw the advert…. How? I don't get! Why would you put such a salary for an ordinary Nanny?” Taylor yelled as soon as he heard his brother's voice.
“Couldn't you just at least wait for dawn?” He yawned, still laying on the bed. Not responding to his brother's question.
“It's eight in the morning, Mark.” Taylor's words made Mark jump out of bed, and he finally opened his eyes.
“Are you serious?” He gazed at the wall clock in his room and sighed in response.
“Don't tell me you slept in late. Did Eunice go to school today?” He asked.
“Yea. She should. The maids and the Butler, I brought them back since Emmie doesn't come home anymore. I need help with a lot in this house. So, I presume they know their job.” Mark spoke with confidence.
“Alright, Victor and I planned out to help you out with the interview too.” Taylor uttered dryly.
“Uhmmm… Something doesn't sit right. Taylor, are you serious? Like, when did you and Victor become friends?” Mark asked, as he was amused by what he heard his brother say.
Victor and Taylor were only hi-hi friends. Their relationship seems to be on a rough road as they always quarrelled and others.
Only if Mark would see the way Taylor rolled his eyes before responding, “Never… we just want to be there for you as best friends and brothers, nothing else. That asshole doesn't interest me in any way.”
“Okayyy… That's good, though, you two are still working together.” Mark replied, smiling.
“If we keep on talking, you won't do anything today. Get your lazy ass off the bed.” Taylor spoke in an attempt to get Mark to go bath.
Mark frowned and asked, “Are you talking to your elder brother in that manner?” And Taylor burst into laughter, “Whatever. See you later.” He dropped the call and immediately went to take his bath.
He went downstairs and had his breakfast because he had a feeling that the day was going to really long one for him.
In about an hour, Mark had already gotten ready to have an interview with the mob outside, all wanting to participate. Mark looked through the window to see even slay queens taking pictures of themselves at his gate.
“Pathetic!” He sighed before walking away.
Those who came early were given seats in the backyard, but sadly, not all of them were protected from the scorching sun. Where Mark sat, it was properly covered at the top to avoid the sun.
The number of applicants was too much. Everyone wanted to be his daughter's nanny. And he, in a way, started to regret the amount he placed. It attracted more of bad than good.
The queue was far too much that his gate had to be left opened. Some got tired of waiting since their legs hurt and retired, while some, determined to get it, sat on the ground since it was neat enough to even sleep on.
Slowly, the applicant began to reduce as time went by, until the day finally came to an end. Luckily, Mark, thanks to his friend and brother, were able to finish up with the candidates and others outside the gate, were asked to come back the next day. Since they were not satisfied with all the ladies who came in.
“I believe that's all man, did you find any responsible candidate?” Taylor asked, making Victor and Mark turn to him.
“No, I feel something's missing.” He replied, looking so lost in thoughts.
“Something like?” Both guys were confused.
Victor didn't like the ladies too but hearing what Mark said about something missing, he didn't quite understand that.
“I noticed, some are just too serious while others are too crazy. I need someone who can be like a mother image towards my daughter…. Someone she can trust and be so free with.” Mark stood up, and the two maids immediately began to take care of the environment.
“Well, best friend, I just hope you're going to find someone because that's too hard to find.” Victor said with a grin.
On the other hand, Betty walked into the house looking exhausted and a bit disappointed. She didn't even spare Mia a glance as she walked straight to the fridge to get a cold bottle of water.
“How did it go?” Mia, who was laying on the couch with her hands over her eyes, asked.
“Horrible. Ahhh… I don't understand rich people.” She rolled her eyes, falling loosely on the couch.
“Tell me about it.” Mia sat up to hear what she had to say. It seemed serious.
“Well, they didn't pick anyone today. You needed to have seen the crowd.” She explained.
“Oh girl, I'm so sorry about that..” Mia consoled her by patting her on her back gently.
“It's okay. I only wanted to try my luck, and I did.” Betty gave her a sad smile, “What about you, aren't you going to try?” She asked, raising a brow at Mia.
“Try what?” Mia gave a puzzled look.
“Trying the nanny job too.” Betty responded more clearly.
“Oh, that? Yeah, I was thinking about that.” Mia replied, “I'll check it out, maybe on Friday.” She replied with a smile on her face.
After all, it was a three-day interview. She wanted to go when the crowd might have calmed. And if by then, they get a nanny, then, she'd move on.
“For real, I wish you good luck and don't forget to share your salary.” Betty playfully punches Mia on the arm as if she could see her already picked. However, they both laughed over it.
“What do you intend to wear, what will you do, have you prepared a portfolio?”
“What do you mean by that? I'm just going to put on my regular clothes and go like a normal person seeking employment…. Nothing special. They are humans like myself, too. I don't have to act like I'm a celeb.” Mia shrugged her shoulders.
“What?! No, you need a makeover or make – up.” Betty replied with a smile.
“No. Uh, uh… There is no need.” She replied with a serious gaze, “Honestly, I don't know what you guys are doing. Sometimes being simple is the best way to win expensive taste.”
She didn't want Betty spending on her.
“Hmmmmmm… there she goes again. Whatever girl.” Betty frowned, crossing her arms as she pouted her lips.
“Common, don't give me that look.” Mia whined.
“No.” Betty glared at her, but Mia didn't care. She knew her friend wasn't really angry with her. She was just faking it to make her change her mind.
“I'm hungry.” Mia said while getting up from the seat, “I want to prepare something, what would you like?” Mia was making way to the kitchen when she asked.
“Just noodles.” Betty sounded worked up. She got up and followed Mia.
“What is it?” Mia asked while getting the ingredients ready.
“I can't believe I'll go back to that stupid boss of mine… After having all the high hopes.” Betty responded.
“Well, you should be happy. At least you have a job, I don't.” Mia replied.
“I guess you're right.” Betty replied with a sigh.
“Go take your bath. And thereafter, your food will be ready.” She assured.
