Chapter 25 Meet him again
"Whoosh."
The things on Suzette's table were all swept onto the floor. It was a mess.
"What did you say?" She was about to explode.
"I said that I want you to accept this film."
Ruby looked viciously at Suzette and rejected it, "Let me tell you that I will never accept such a role!"
She wanted to leave the office after speaking.
But before she could grab the doorknob, Suzette said coldly, "Let me tell you this, as long as you walk out of this office, don't ever expect to work in the entertainment industry. Do you think that you are the only artist in Sky Royal Entertainment?"
"I don't need rebellious artists."
What Suzette said wasn't just empty threats.
Countless artists want to sign with this company and Ruby got in with someone's help. Otherwise, who knew where she would be now.
Ruby hesitated with Suzette's threat.
In the end, she turned, endured her temper, and said, "You said that you want me to step over Suzanne. Will I be able to achieve this with this small role?"
"Of course, you need to take things a step at a time."
This was indeed true.
Ruby finally yielded under Suzette's threat but that was temporary.
"Come on time at two in the afternoon. I'll not give you another chance."
Ruby picked up her handbag and grudgingly said, "Okay."
She walked out of Suzette's office dejected.
Lindsey came thereafter and gave Suzette a big thumbs up, "Suzette, you're amazing, you were able to settle her so quickly."
Suzette shook her head, "She wasn't convinced by me. She was only worried about her own career being threatened."
It wasn't enough to convince Ruby. There will be a harder battle to fight.
Citylink Productions' auditions are at four o'clock and Suzette wanted to give Ruby a surprise training at two o'clock.
Time flew by the busy morning and just as Suzette was about to go to the company cafeteria, she received a call from Roderick.
"Director Shaw?"
Roderick's attractive voice came over the phone, "Don't be so formal, just call me Roderick."
Isn't this too casual? Suzette pursed her lips.
But she still asked, "What do you need? It's lunchtime now."
Roderick laughed, "Can't I call you during lunch? I'm just wondering if I could have the honor of having lunch with you."
"Lunch…" Suzette looked at the clock for the time and agreed, "Okay, where shall we meet?"
"Just at the restaurant across from the office."
Suzette laughed when she heard that, "I didn't think that you're so practical."
Both hung up the call soon after.
In order to be more casual, Suzette let down her hair and walked briskly to the restaurant. Roderick was already waiting for her.
"Over here!" He waved to her.
Suzette quickly walked over.
"Were you here waiting for long?" Suzette asked.
Roderick simply smiled and handed the menu to her, "What do you like? This restaurant serves very authentic Hong Kong cuisine."
"Thanks."
Suzette looked carefully and quickly ordered a few dishes.
Actually, when she was in M country, she would always eat at Chinatown. Most of the restaurants in Chinatown were owned by immigrants from Hong Kong. Thus, she was very familiar with the cuisine.
"Why made you want to have lunch with me at such short notice?"
There was no free lunch, Suzette always believed in this statement.
But when Roderick revealed a sad expression when he heard what she said, "Am I the type who is so calculative?"
"That's hard to say." She joked.
Suzette wasn't sure if the handsome man in front of her has any ulterior motives.
She was singled out by him as soon as she came back into the country. Surely he must have done his research. It was impossible to think that he didn't have something on his mind.
Roderick shook his head and didn't continue on this topic. His gaze fell upon a red patch on her hand.
"Are you hurt?"
It took Suzette a while to realize that she had scalded her hand the previous day.
She laughed awkwardly, "I forgot."
She had forgotten about it because it wasn't painful.
But Roderick frowned, "We'll get some ointment for it after lunch."
"This is nothing." Suzette indicated there was no need to.
But what Roderick said next made her blush, "It'll be a great pity for such a beautiful lady to have a scar on her hand. You must take good care of yourself."
Suzette was speechless.
Roderick realized that he might have misspoken and quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, did I say something that I shouldn't have?"
"No, you didn't. I was distracted."
It wasn't easy to warm up the mood and suddenly a shrill shattered the atmosphere. A middle-aged woman dressed conspicuously yelled, "Suzette? How dare you slut come back?"
The woman's yell drew everyone's attention.
Suzette raised her head and saw a familiar face.
Wasn't she Camden's mother, Sharlene?
True enough, all those who hurt her had appeared. Suzette was about to retaliate but Sharlene yelled again, "Woah, after divorcing my son, you found a pimp, looks like you are doing well."
Sharlene was here to have lunch with a friend and didn't expect to see a familiar face. On careful inspection, it was her ex-daughter-in-law.
She just had to pick a fight with her.
Anyway, in Sharlene's impression, this woman submits to aggression.
Roderick couldn't hear anymore. He stood up and said sternly, "Auntie, you'd better watch your words."
Sharlene smirks, "Young man, let me remind you. This woman was impregnated by another man when she married my son. Don't be cuckolded by her."
She was very loud when she said this and practically everyone in the restaurant heard it.
Suzette endured quietly in her seat.
"Don't you talk nonsense!" Roderick erupted in anger.
He did check on Suzette's background and he knew that she was a divorcee and he knew that things were not that simple.
Suzette was a victim.
"What nonsense did I saw? She is a slut!"
Sharlene wanted to pick up the glass of water to splash on Suzette's face.
But her actions were prevented and the person who did it was Suzette.
Suzette stood up from her seat and looked coldly at Sharlene.
"I'm warning you, get out of my sight immediately. Otherwise, I'll make things unbearable for your family."
"Hey, slut, you dare to threaten me?"
Sharlene disregarded her threat.
