8. Insist
Please tell Florence if her ears are still working properly, in other words she hasn't misheard.

What did David just say? Has he gone mad? Where is his brain that he can say that so easily?

Florence was stunned for a split second. She thought David was lying, in the sense that he didn't mean what he said earlier, but look at his face right now. He kept looking at her, his face flat, so serious. That's really horrible.

In fact, Florence was currently covered in goosebumps. She still couldn't believe what she had just heard. In her entire career, none of her clients had made such a ridiculous request as David had. It's ridiculous because her job here is to help. She doesn't play, she doesn't go into the field. She can't do that. She can't even imagine it.

"You're kidding, right?" Florence asked half laughing, just feeling the need to do so, because she was trying to be casual.

"No, it's not. I'm so serious." David reassured Florence with his deep gaze. In fact, to convince her that his words were more than playful, he even shifted his seat closer to her, his body straightening.

Florence let out a long sigh. "You really don't seem to understand how I work. I can't do it. I'm sorry if I disappointed you."

"Oh, come on! I'm not demanding much from you. I'm just asking for your help."

"You're misrepresenting my work. Listen to this once carefully..." Florence emphasized every word she said, hoping that David would really understand this time.

"I get it."

However, Florence didn't care. She just wanted David to hear it one more time. "My job is to find lovers for people who really need them. That's why they come to me."

"And I'm in need of one."

"For those who are really serio—"

"I am serious."

"Don't cut my sentence." Florence replied instantly. "You only need a temporary partner, you said just for one day, just for you to take to the wedding. Whereas my goal is to help them find true love. You know the difference is very obvious. You've got the wrong person, I can't help you."

David looked like he was about to reply to Florence, but she had already said it. "And I never offered it to myself."

David was disappointed. It was obvious in his expression, but even more so in his eyes.

"Do you have a boyfriend? Or maybe even a husband?"

"That's not why I rejected you. It has nothing to do with it at all."

"But why did you refuse?"

"And why did you force me?"

"Don't be silly, I didn't force you."

"Then you already know my answer. And why should I? How hopeless are you now that you're asking me?"

David let out a long sigh. But he didn't want to leave empty-handed. He felt he had to try one more time. He didn't want this to happen in vain.

"It looks like we have nothing more to talk about, so—"

"Wait!" David immediately prevented Florence who was already standing up. His hand was raised. "Are you really unable to do it for? Please think about it carefully once again."

"I can't." Florence felt that David was very stubborn, and she was already quite tired of dealing with him. If she lingered here, she knew she would go crazy. She couldn't take it anymore.

"Please." David begged. For the last time. It was the only thing he could do. "I don't know where else to turn for help besides you."

"You should try."

"Do I need to kneel before you? I can do that if you want me to. Or what? I can comply with your request."

Don't blame Florence for suddenly saying David was such a strange man.

"You know I wouldn't agree to that. Are you out of your mind?" Florence was now completely on her feet. She grabbed her bag. "It's with a heavy heart that I say I can't help you."

David had lost hope as soon as Florence stepped away. And this was something very bad. This couldn't just happen. He quickly caught up with her, and startled her as he intercepted her steps.

"Oh, jesus!" Florence was shocked. She stroked her chest as she glared at David. "What's wrong with you? Don't make me feel like a bad person, please stay away."

"Listen first."

"We've discussed everything. I can't help you with anything. Get someone else to help you. I wish you luck."

David still hadn't let Florence go. He immediately grabbed her hand. Again, what he did surprised her.

"I have a business."

Florence's eyebrows knitted. She didn't understand what David was saying.

"What are you talking about?"

"Printing. I have a newspaper printing business."

"What do you mean, what's the connection?" Florence blinked. She almost thought David was drunk and talking nonsense, but her brain could apparently think fast.

Florence finally understood what David was saying. She could immediately make the connection. She was wide-eyed with surprise.

"No way!"

"You know what I mean."

Yes, she did. And this was very dangerous for her because it meant that David could jeopardize her business. She couldn't let this happen. She knew his way of thinking.

Florence was silent for a while, but her brain was working, she was thinking.

"You're thinking what I'm thinking, Florence."

Although she was already feeling quite panicked, she tried to keep it down. She didn't want he to see it. She wouldn't let that happen.

Florence looked up, then smiled slightly. She already understood David was sending battle signals. "Are you threatening me?"

"I didn't say anything."

"I knew where this would lead without you explaining it further."

"Well..." David shrugged his shoulders. "You seem to be a smart woman."

"Everything is clear. I know the way you think. And yes, you threatened me."

"You're making this sound really bad."

"It is."

"Don't let me look like the bad guy here. You started it first, I just pulled out my ace."

Florence growled softly. She couldn't suppress her emotions completely.

"Can we discuss this again? You know you can't run now."

Unfortunately, Florence couldn't do much. She could only obey David's command. She let out a long sigh.

"Okay, let's discuss it."

She was willing to bet, it would be tiring and energy-consuming.
