17. Not Entirely Wrong
Florence wasn't stupid, nor could she avoid anything. The fact that David definitely didn't want to lose her made her feel she had no other choice but to follow his wishes. She was reluctant to do so, but she had to. It was the only chance she had. There was nothing else to do.
David's intentions were very clear, he was trying to make a fortune here. Florence couldn't ruin the vision and mission she had set since the business started, she was going to help people find their true love, not for people who just wanted someone else's presence for the sake of it, then when it was over, they could just throw them away, just like David wanted. And Florence can't do that.
But now it seems impossible for Florence to hold David responsible without sacrificing something else. Maybe, just this once, she would give in to the situation.
Florence reluctantly went along with the game David was playing. She closed her eyes, along with her heavy breathing. "Okay, fine." This was the only way she could go.
Her eyes opened again, glaring harshly at him who was standing in front of her at super close range. "You win now."
She wasn't going to risk it all. Losing the job she loved felt like death. She was not ready to lose something she had built up, especially for such a ridiculous reason. It's not like giving up a little won't make things crumble even more, maybe this is the only stepping stone to get things back to the way they were, to give up a little of her pride, to rebuild what's already there.
Yep, Florence told herself over and over again that it was all worth it, for the sake of her career.
In the end, she had a firm stand. "I will comply with your request. Let's do it and get it over with."
In fact it surprised David greatly, as he thought Florence would at least rebel and put up a fight, but suddenly, somehow, he felt he knew the reason. Florence had no other choice.
David just kept quiet for a while, which was enough to make Florence nervous. Isn't this what she wanted? She was annoyed that it was so annoying.
"Hey!" Florence snapped her fingers right in front of his face, startling him instantly. His eyes blinked.
"Yes, I'm sorry!"
"I didn't tell you to daydream." She said harshly, almost sounding too cruel. Staring at him for too long seemed so annoying. "Did you hear me talking or not?"
"I heard you, I just—" David let out a long sigh. "Look, I'm surprised, I think—"
"You want me to change my mind?"
"Of course not!" David immediately refused. "Yeah, I want you to do me a favor."
"And you have to clean up that shit you spread around. Put everything back the way it was. You get it?"
"Absolutely."
Florence let out a long sigh. "I'm just being realistic here. I know you won't just let me go. Because you're actually very cruel."
"You're making me out to be the worst."
"What if I told you that's the truth?"
"Oh, really?" David laughed.
"Don't act as if you're kind. I'm doing this because for my sake, you started it all."
"Hold on, I started this?" David pointed at himself. He gaped at Florence. "Oh, come on, you can't be serious."
"Look at my face, do I not look serious?"
"I gave you a warning, but you didn't listen to me, and then when I played this small role, you realized that I was dangerous enough to handle. You didn't want it to get bigger, you wanted to end it, and okay, I did what you wanted." David took a step forward, bringing himself closer to her. "You started it, not me. I just asked for your help, and you turned me down, I don't care about your fucking rules of business. You know what I mean, things wouldn't be the way they are if you had accepted me as your client. The only reason why I'm doing this is because I have to because you're the only hope I have. Yes, only you, only you can help me."
"ENOUGH!" Florence pushed David back. She jerked violently. His words made her tired of just listening to him. She understood she wasn't completely right, she also knew he wasn't completely wrong. It's just... Oh dang, it's just hard to explain, but she knows where this is going.
"There's no need to say anything else, I'm too sick of hearing this, I'm so tired of this. I've agreed to settle this, okay?"
Florence could not bear to continue being here, while her brain was already burning. She needed space to be alone, and the only thing she could think of was to get out of here. And that's exactly what she needed to do.
Florence quickly grabbed her bag that was on a lawn chair. She pulled it with a rough and fast motion. "I'm leaving, just call me for when and where I should meet you again."
"It won't be long now."
Florence had already stepped away, she smiled sarcastically. "I'm not stupid enough not to realize that. You wouldn't have come to me if you still had plenty of time." She sighed softly as she rolled her eyes. Oh God, this was so tiring.
"It's not as easy as you think, you know that?" David spoke with a shout for cause, Florence had already stepped further away.
Florence heard that, but she chose to ignore it, instead now her pace was even faster, wanting to get away from him in a hurry.
"We need to discuss this further. Hey, we need to discuss."
Florence still didn't care. All she wanted this time was one thing, she wanted to rest. Her tiredness had to be cut short. The matter with him could be thought of later, she needed to put it aside for a while.
Fate is so unpredictable, Florence didn't even expect anything like this to happen in her life.
