Better as housemates

Better as housemates
“I am so proud of you, child. Make sure you pop that champagne tonight.” Sean smiled at Sam, who was about to get off the car and go into Damon’s yard.

“No, you made this possible, and I will make sure to pop it and have a mini celebration with my housemate. He can be very moody, so let us hope he is happy tonight.”

Sam said thoughtfully, and Sean hummed in response.

“Take care.”

He waved and drove off after Bald opened the gates for her.

“Hey, Bald, you good?”

She asked happily as she entered the front door, with Bald following behind her.

“Yes, I am good. Mr. Bridge is waiting for you in the dining room. Is that champagne?”

She nodded at his question before going ahead to see Damon.

Damon was casually leaning back in his chair while scrolling on his phone, a faint smile on his lips. A bucket of KFC chicken was on the table, with soft buns, a jug of freshly blended orange juice, and a small bowl of salad.

He raised his head at the sound of Sam entering, her high heels clicking against the floor.

“Hello, Samantha. You look great today, huh?” He smirked at her.

“Good evening, Mr. Bridge. Are your words meant to compliment me?” She mirrored his expression as she sat down after placing the bottle of champagne on the table.

“Take it however you want, woman.”

His brows knitted when their eyes met.

“I guess, thank you, Damon. Aren’t you going to ask me how my proposal went?”

She placed both hands on the table and leaned over, unintentionally showing her cleavage, which he noticed at first glance.

“Judging by this bottle of champagne, it is clear that the deal is yours.”

He slowly shrugged his shoulders and closed his iPhone screen, putting it aside to get a better look at her, if not at what her skin was showing him.

“Yeah, Paul was super professional. I am just happy our studio got lucky. I just can’t seem to shrug off the fact that he did it because he knows me.”

She said with a long breath, remaining in the same posture.

“Paul is always professional, and him knowing you does not mean he could sacrifice the reputation of his company, which is like a second baby to him. I would appreciate the win if I were you. It proves how capable all of you are.”

Damon said softly, his words causing her to widen her eyes in disbelief.

“Wow, Damon. I never thought in my lifetime I could hear those nice words from you.”

Her face lightened. It seemed today was indeed her day of winning.

“Perhaps it’s because you are flashing my eyes, so I have to be very nice to you.”

He gestured toward her cleavage.

Sam abruptly sat back and tried to fix her dress while he watched with a visible smirk.

“Happy now?”

She asked with raised eyebrows, but he shook his head.

“As you can see, we are eating takeout tonight. I hope this pleases your stomach.”

Damon waved a wing in the air, and Sam laughed at his actions before taking a piece for herself.

“Gotta sacrifice a day for junk food. You better pop the bottle after, okay?”

She bit into the meat under his gaze, a seductive smile appearing on her lips as his eyes followed her movements.

“I have no problem, Sam, but you are seriously going to stop that. We are better as good housemates. Don’t ruin that.”

His expression became more serious, clearly unpleased.

“You are right. That was foolish of me anyway.” Her face lowered, a flicker of embarrassment washing over her.

Damon secretly smirked at her response and ate quietly before his iPhone rang.

It rang for a few seconds and stopped before ringing again.

“Are you not going to pick it up? If not, please switch it off.” She spoke softly, much more careful not to be chewed alive by him.

“It is an old acquaintance. Should I pick it up?”

He showed her the name on the screen.

Samantha almost choked on her food when she saw Lisa’s name on his phone screen.

“I don’t know. It is your choice, although I recall you telling me how you two broke up.”

She replied casually.

“That is nothing but the truth. Look, Cici is not going to be here from tomorrow after midday. We will figure out how we will take turns cooking. Don’t worry about cleaning; someone will come four days a week.”

Damon explained with a gentle voice.

“I do understand, as long as you assure me that you did not fire her. Cici is so nice to me.”

Her lips pouted.

“More of a mother to me. She has been taking care of me since birth, so I usually advise her to spend time with her children from time to time.”

He sighed and wiped his mouth with a napkin.

“She told me that, and I think you have been blessed with the kindest mother figure ever. Oh, I do wish my foster mother was the sweetest. Instead, all she loves is nice clothes, her husband and money.”

She also released a long breath, and Damon chuckled.

“I know this is not funny, but the way you say it makes it super hilarious. Don’t worry, they won’t sell you out now that you are out of their house.”

He stretched out his hand to grab the bottle she had brought.

“Really? Because I find it sad.”

She paused and gave him the glasses.

“Me being out of their house does not necessarily mean I am free. By law, they are both still my parents, and I shall make sure I reward them for all these years they have taken me in.”

“What about your real parents? Ever searched for them?”

He asked curiously as they raised their glasses.

“I actually don’t think it is quite important to search for people who dumped me into the orphanage. I have to be grateful for the ones I have. Blood doesn’t make one family. My dad always said that.”

She uttered seriously.

“I get you, Miss Stone. What you are saying makes a lot of perfect sense. You should also keep in mind that good parents would not want their daughter to be sold off to an abuser, or even a regular person, in exchange for a price. I suggest you keep your distance.”

She raised her shoulders.

“Talking about Aaron, I so wish to find them a sponsor so they could get off my back. Do you know anyone who might be interested in the retail and manufacturing of various bags?”

She asked nervously as his face darkened.

“I am just a defense attorney. Nothing more, darling. Their problems are not yours. Just keep that in your head.”

He snapped at her.

“Cool then, calm down, tiger.”

She teased.

“Anyway, shouldn’t we tidy up this place before going to bed?”

She glanced at the messy table.

“We can start doing that from tomorrow. It is time to go rest now.”

She smiled and slowly got off her chair.

“Good night, Damon.”
