Cooking Competition For Future In-Laws
"I hope you all can stay here," said Jean's mother after receiving treatment from Camilla.
"Does Reinhardt mind? Maybe she's busy in the west." Jean looked at me, worried I might have a lot of work in the west. However, he didn't ask Camilla, as if he knew Camilla would be willing to stay at his mother's house.
And even though I have a lot of work in the west, I will still stay and watch over my beloved. This feeling is truly disturbing, actually, but I can't shake off my worry that my lover will be taken by another woman for the second time.
"It's okay; Collin and John can handle my work." When I said that, I saw a slightly different look in Jean's mother's eyes. I don't know if it's just a feeling or if Jean's mother really doesn't like me, but the looks she gives me and the ones she gives Camilla are so obviously different.
"As the leader of the West, Miss Reinhardt must have a lot of work and be very busy. If your work cannot be left, it's better for Jean to take you back west. Only after that can Jean come back here." Jean's mother said that I tried to think positively, but then she continued.
"If Camilla has to stay here, she has to take care of me. Let Jean and Camilla stay." Jean's mother's smile was directed toward Camilla.
This is a complete rejection; Jean's mother really doesn't like me. But what's the point? As long as his child loves me so much, what's wrong with me fighting for it?
"How is it, Rein? It's all up to you." Jean asked me to think about the offer to stay and go back west.
"I'll stay," I said loudly, causing a slight change in Mother Jean's expression. However, Jean's mother needs to know what a stubborn and ambitious Reinhardt is like. I'm sure I'll win over Jean's mother's heart and get her blessing to be with her son. Sooner or later, Jean's mother will accept me as her son's lover, even surpassing Camilla in her eyes as the ideal daughter-in-law.
"Alright, I'll ask Oscar to speak directly to Collin and John to get their permission," Jean said, but I immediately crossed my arms.
"No need; once I say I'm with you, they'll support me and feel at ease. If I say I'm staying here, they'll also gladly allow it," I told Jean.
"Really? If that's the case, you can call them now." Jean gave me time to call West and deliver the message that I wouldn't be coming home today.
I'll excuse myself to move away from Jean, his mother, and Camilla to call my men. But after walking a few steps, I heard my mother's voice.
"Jean, can't you see how beautiful and talented Camilla is? You're already of marriageable age, and besides, Camilla is still single." Jean's mother's statement broke my heart; she didn't seem to value my presence at all.
"Mother, I already have a girlfriend. Besides, a great woman like Camilla will also find the best match. Don't arrange marriages for your children." And even though Jean warned her for the umpteenth time, Jean's mother still wanted Camilla to be her daughter-in-law.
"Mother just feels you're better suited for Camilla. Camilla is so gentle; she has a motherly soul as a doctor, and the mafia boss just makes her look like a barbaric woman." Those unpleasant words hit my chest repeatedly and without stopping. There's nothing more or less suitable.
"I will just keep choosing my own path. Mom knows that as the chair of the Northeast, I have sensitivity and believe in my own choices? I've never even had bad luck with my choices. Relax, and try to accept Reinhardt." Jean's defense of me in front of his mother made me gratefully happy. However, I'm worried that even if Camilla doesn't have feelings for Jean, her heart might still be hurt because Jean always chooses me and compares me to her.
After I finished calling John, I went back to the living room. I had just arrived when Jean's mother got up from her sofa.
"It's five o'clock in the afternoon; let's call Camilla and Miss Reinhardt to help me cook in the kitchen." Camilla smiled in agreement; she looked light, as if she were in control of the kitchen and it wasn't a problem. Meanwhile, I'm not good at cooking.
When Jean's mother went ahead with Camilla, I looked back at Jean and gestured for his help. However, Jean shook his head, his lips whispering something that I could guess was, "Mother really loves preparing food. Just follow along; just help with the easy stuff."
I sighed, but I won't give up. I nodded and remembered Jean's words to only help with the light ones. As much as possible, I will avoid Mother's requests to add spices, except for just chopping the food ingredients.
"I hope Camilla can make one menu with the help of the maids. And Miss Reinhardt can also make one menu with the help of the maids. Meanwhile, I'll prepare the dessert." And that surprising statement made me a little panicked.
I was still standing there even after Camilla had left to get the ingredients she was going to cook. It's crazy; I was taught to cook, but I don't step foot in the kitchen every day. What should I do with my minimal cooking skills?
"Miss, could you tell us what ingredients you're looking for?" The two maids assigned to help me suddenly snapped me out of my reverie. Damn, I can't move a muscle, even though the entire western area is under my thumb, but right now I look like such a loser.
"Miss?" They called me again.
"Ah, let's keep it simple, shall we? Please find me some pasta and cheese sauce." I gave them instructions.
"Isn't that a bit too light, miss? I saw that the cooking ingredients Miss Camilla brought were for making Chicken Pesto Bake." When the maid said that, I immediately looked toward Camilla, who was already bringing her cooking ingredients with two other maids assigned to help her.
"What's wrong with light meals anyway? Is this really a competition?"
