Grandpa?

Grandpa?
AMBROSE POV

“Are you happy now?” Matteo taunted after watching my third mental breakdown.

A part of me was always scared, thinking that I should have told Ben the truth while she was here.

I sighed deeply, gulping down my third drink.

“If she means a lot to you, why don’t you just call her and tell her the truth? Who knows, she might even forgive you.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

“Don’t think that I’ve forgotten what you did.”

His eyes widened in surprise.

“What are you talking about, Ambrose?”

I rolled my eyes at him.

“I saw you cozying up to Benedykta while she was still here… were you doing it to mess with me?”

He smirked.

“Ben is a nice girl who recently got divorced. She might be a single mother right now, but she looks good for her age. Since you don’t want her, I might as well take my shot.”

I stood up, glaring at him.

“Don’t even think about it,” I warned.

Matteo raised his hands in defense.

“Do not cross me, brother, or else you will be dead to me,” I muttered sternly.

He chuckled.

“Relax, I was only pulling your leg, but now you finally have your answer.”

I frowned at him.

“What is that?” I asked curiously, crossing my arms over my chest.

“That no matter how many times you push her away, you still love her. Just go back to her and tell her the truth before it’s too late.”

It didn’t make any sense to me.

I lied straight to her face and pretended like I lost my memory because I wanted her to be happy with Nolan, even if it meant that I was going to be miserable for the rest of my life.

But it’s been eight years… for eight long years, I kept myself hidden like a ghost and missed out on watching my daughter grow up.

She doesn’t even know that I’m her father.

Alessia Marie.

What a beautiful name.

“Aren’t you leaving? You’re going to miss your flight.”

I remained silent.

“Ben is suffering out there, Ambrose. She needs you… those people are going to kill her.”

I turned to look at him.

“What do you mean?”

He sighed deeply.

“The Rebels have turned their backs on Ben… she is no longer the CEO of New Way Group because their beloved grandson has returned from the dead, and he won’t stop until Ben is ruined. She’s in the hospital right now. Nolan called me when it happened… Ambrose, you need to do something before things get out of hand.”

I rushed to the bedroom and began packing my luggage.

Matteo planned my trip ahead, and soon enough, I was on the private jet heading to New York.

I was done running, and most importantly, I was done sacrificing my own happiness to look good in front of other people.

It was time to get my family and my woman.

In my mind, all I could think about were the horrible things that could go wrong.

What if she wanted nothing to do with me?

I couldn’t blame her, especially for what I had put her through.

I had to find a way to make amends and earn her forgiveness.

It was cold.

The snow was falling, and New York was nothing like Italy.

I got off the jet, soaking in the cold air.

I was determined to get her back.

I felt like a ghost who had traveled back in time, and now I was back here, reliving each damn moment.

The good and the bad.

She was so close yet still far.

Only a couple of miles stood between us and the happiness we could have had.

I found myself in a cab heading to the one place that only felt like home to her—New Way Group.

My gaze lingered on the buildings, which seemed to have manifested around the city.

It felt like I was staring at a whole new different world, but somehow, I wasn’t part of it.

I was a stranger.

My presence felt like a lingering shadow from the past.

In this part of the world, I had been a dead man for eight years.

I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself.

Soon enough, I was in a cab heading to New Way Group. Despite the excitement, I couldn’t shake off this feeling that something was about to go terribly wrong.

Thirty minutes later, I made it to the entrance of New Way Group.

I paid the cab driver, collected my luggage, and stepped out of the vehicle.

Over the years, the company has grown in size.

It was now an empire.

But was it all thanks to my efforts?

That’s when I saw her at a distance, and it felt like time had come to a standstill; she hadn’t noticed me yet.

She was giving some guy the middle finger and stormed off, but she slowed down when she saw me.

She had that same look in her eyes.

My gaze lingered on the bandage wrapped around her forehead, and I remembered Matteo’s words.

I felt a surge of anger coursing through my veins.

“Ambrose?”

I pushed the lucid thoughts away and turned my attention to her.

The woman who had wrapped me around her finger.

I smiled, and she blinked in surprise.

I waved at her.

“Hi.”

“You’re supposed to be in Italy… what are you doing here?”

There was only one way to say it, and I didn’t want to waste any more time.

“You were right.”

She gave me a puzzled look and crossed her arms over her chest.

“About what?”

I took a deep breath.

“That day you had an accident at the vineyard… I meant every word I said to you, Benedykta, and I never lost my memory.”

She gasped in shock.

“I’m sorry… I panicked. I had taken so much away from Nolan; I felt like if I chose to stay away, he could have the life he wanted with you.”

She scoffed.

“But I wanted to be with you and not Nolan… I was pregnant, Ambrose. How could I want a life with someone else?”

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“Do you know what you did?”

She wiped her tears away.

“You deprived our daughter of having her father in her life.”

I sighed deeply.

“I know, and the thought of her calling her grandfather always breaks my heart.”

I walked toward her, closing the distance between us.

“But I’m here now, and I want to make things right between us. I can't be away from you anymore, piccolo fiore. We’ve lost too much time.”

I planted a kiss on her forehead.

As much as I wanted to kiss her lips, I felt like it wasn’t the right moment.

Our eyes locked in a frenzy.

“Ambrose… there’s something you should know… I’m pregnant.”

It felt like I had been stabbed in the chest.

It couldn’t be his.

They were married; they had every right to consummate their marriage.

I was really going to become a grandfather this time.

I took a step back as Ben watched in horror.
